does anyone remember that one Tumblr account that was dedicated exclusively to hating on Jon Arbuckle

I love the whole 30 is the new 21 trend like yes queen so true. Your 30s are not for having children and settling down. They are for traveling, building your career, and going to the CLUB. Freeze ur eggs if u must I don’t care. Any 30 something year old woman who’s choosing to enjoy her newfound financial stability and not spend it in an unhappy marriage has my wholehearted stamp of approval.

some people like to get mad at disability benefits because they think its unfair people who dont work get a payout from the government while they have to work 50 hours at the human suffering factory every week. but if you tell them "yeah that sucks i think you should also get a universal allowance and not have to work 50 hours at the human suffering factory every week" thats apparently the wrong answer.

another heavy handed symbolism moment: my mom has a potted sunflower in the kitchen. because it is a sunflower, it keeps turning towards the light from the window. my mother keeps rotating it so it faces inward because she wants "to see its beautiful petals and have it really brighten up the space!" . the sunflower is visibly wilting .
are you going to tell her or
her masters degree is in biology
oooh I get it it’s always gonna be because of the environment I grew up in
it’s because of the curse
The issue with using vampires as a metaphor for gay people is there would always be some twink equivocating about how he couldn't stomach the blood of a woman and expect people to not call him a misogynist
It'd be a whole thing on Vampire Twitter over whether or not it was more or less misogynistic to refuse to drink from women, then it would be found out the vampire twins was just like a massive misogynist beyond the blood thing and he would face no reprecussions because he was on Vampire RuPaul
are u guys hearing this
(This is a Great Golden Digger Wasp - Sphex ichneumoneus - doing what its name implies, digging. But you may also notice, if you turn the sound on, that she’s making some incredible noises as she does so.)

we need to bring back old school tumblr communication and im so serious. sending an ask to a mutual just to say hello. seeing three different asks in your inbox all asking how your dentist appointment went. seeing a post you think one of your mutuals would enjoy and tagging them/sending it to them in the dms. nowadays its just silently liking a post or (if youre feeling extreme) replying under posts. WHAT HAPPENED TO US!! we used to be a proper community!!!! #LetsBringWhimsyBack
reblog if you want ppl to send you random lil' asks
i, a rock collector, had to go to the ER yesterday because of a gallstone attack, here is how my father messaged me
thanks dad
That was the correct thing to say.
Every so often I’ll see posts from people trying to work out whether they ‘count’ as something - usually some type of LGBTQIA, sometimes neurodiverse, sometimes disabled
And as they talk about it, it’ll become clear that they’re thinking about that label because there’s something in their life that’s uncomfortable, and they can see people with that label NOT doing that thing, and they’re wondering if they have a right to also not do it.
So this is me, giving you permission. Label or not, YOU ARE ALLOWED to:
Stop dating people (of a particular gender or in general)
Start dating people (of a particular gender or in general)
Have less (or no) sex
Have more sex (or with more people)
Get married
Not get married
Plan to never get married
Have a friend more important than people you date or have sex with
Wear skirts
Not wear skirts
Wear make-up
Not wear make-up
Cut your hair
Grow your hair
Try new pronouns
Wear a binder
Use a cane
Use fidget toys
Use noise-cancelling headphones
Take painkillers (or other over-the-counter medication)
Ask for help
Not eat that food
Ask for food alternatives
Not drink alcohol
Avoid that location with the crowds and the noise
You are allowed.
You are allowed to do these things some of the time, or all of the time, or only once.
If they make you feel better in yourself, maybe someday you’ll decide to take on the label that applies to many people who do them. But you don’t NEED a label.
You are allowed.
I say this as a trans woman who explicitly doesn't use they/them and with the greatest of love; if you are a random stranger and you expect me to pull up and read through your bio before referring to you in passing in a comment chain, forum thread or chat room, then I'm afraid that is not going to happen and you will have to eat being genericized, as also do I.
This is just the reality of interacting in a context where contextual information is not immediately visible. You are not special to me. I will not read your dni, open a new tab to see if you list pronouns, or reference any other demographic information unless I have a specific, relevant to what I'm discussing reason to do so. I am happy to be corrected if there is need, but if I'm obliquely referencing a post reply I am usually not even directly talking to you, and so it is silly to expect me to know who you are in advance. Understand the mode of dialog if the forum you are choosing to speak on. You can yell at me if you want, but you need to understand that you are the one placing an unreasonable burden in that scenario.
When did we move from "Using 'they' for a coworker who you damn well know uses she/her is misgendering," to "Using they for someone whose pronouns you do not know is misgendering"???
Using "they" for a rando on the internet falls squarely into using they where the antecedent is "someone" for me. I simply do not know the gender because it is a stranger!
Mostly endorsing prev's tag: "#also i think its a really bad social norm to make 'investigate their gender' a top priority when interacting with strangers. tbh."
Gendering everyone you see already is the prevailing social norm. This is not new. This is why most of our language's 3rd-person pronouns are gendered, which is my least-favorite feature of our language.
I would like to see a world where people can interact as people, and not have to worry about getting immediately gendered by every random stranger they come across.
Also on the internet people used to (and often still) default to he/him. so honestly complaining that we've progressed to they/them is just being stuck in the perspective of your specific personal bad experiences from your personal life. tip for the very insecure among us: Don't take everything personally when it really isn't about you in particular... you'll live a happier life and feel more positively about the people around you instead of suspecting that every interaction is in bad faith
NGS and IERS are complaining that they left CLEAR instructions to set the washing machine to WGS84 (G2296) instead of WGS84 (G730).
