So I'm officially back to work after having my baby. We are a breastfeeding duo thanks to him completely, he does great at it. And now I get to take the joy of feeding him with me to work and turn myself into a machine to continue to create this nourishment for him to use at school! My office supplied room is awkward and not always available, so I went to a new space that I was told no one would go into as they aren't using it yet! As I'm in this LOCKED room, doing my thing, a construction worker unlocks the door, opens it wide and starts to look around. From my standpoint, this all happened as 2 pieces of clear plastic slurp my nipples to an obscene size and shape. 🍠 NBD! Lucky for us I suppose my back faced him (so that way my front was facing floor to ceiling windows overlooking the highway but I digress), so presumably he saw almost nothing but a little shoulder action and got to hear the hum of my (Spectra S2) pump...which sounds like a sthluuuuurp-thump, sthluuuurp-thump! As soon as we made eye contact he apologized profusely, shutting the door and leaving me to the uncomfortable decision of stopping early or finishing. (I finished.) But as I made my walk of shame out of there, he wouldn't even make eye contact. I was going to introduce myself. I mean, I'm sure plenty of nameless people have seen me topless before. But this felt more personal. The rejection hurts the most. On a more serious note...we shouldn't have to worry about someone opening the door on us, someone banging on the door (which happened the very next day), fitting this fun little soirée into a 30 minute window - bc hello, I've had to wait for someone else to leave, walk around to different spots looking for a room, shut blinds before I get topless, shut blinds after I'm topless (which also means disconnecting), cry over spilled milk...which is my DNA, in an office, and then clean it up. I could go on. There is nothing fun about pumping. I only do it bc my baby does so well nursing and I refuse to take that away from him. I've shared this story in many places already bc it's funny and also bc I want to be dramatic over it. But honestly, this shouldn't ever happen to any of us.
