In general, Sinners has great cinematography, but I think this tracking shot that follows Lisa Chow across the street from her parents’ Black storefront to their White storefront is one of my favorites:

Look at how it immediately establishes the rules of the movie's setting.

This is Jim Crow Mississippi where Black and White residents essentially live in different worlds. The continuous take forces us (the audience) to experience that segregation in real time as we walk behind Lisa crossing the street. There are no cuts or edits to interrupt the discomfort of having to witness all those visual reminders of racism against Black Americans.

I think it's also significant that it's Lisa, an Asian American woman, who the camera follows. As someone who exists outside the Black-White racial binary, she’s able to traverse these two worlds but the bright red of her shirt still demarcates her as a conspicuous outsider amidst all the blue and brown on both sides, representing the uniquely precarious position of Asians in the U.S.’s racial hierarchy.

There is a German art group called Pataphysical Institute Basel that I collaborated with on an art festival a few years ago, and one of their things was that they wanted everything done in "Pataphysical time" which in practice meant that nothing should be scheduled to start at exactly on the hour or half past the hour, and instead the start time should be something weird like three minutes past etc.

That was surprisingly helpful and I have since then been on "Pataphysical time" like I don't place special importance on any specific position of the hands of the clock.

"Variety has learned through their sources that Netflix is developing a live-action TV series based on the Persona series.

The writer, executive producer and showrunner will be Christopher Monfette, who worked as a writer on Star Trek: Picard, 12 Monkeys, and 9-1-1, and will be co-executive producer on VisionQuest. Shawn Levy and Robert Atwood of 21 Laps—the studio that produced Stranger Things—will also serve as executive producers, along with Story Kitchen’s (production studio specializing in video game IP adaptations):

Timothy I. Stevenson

Notably, Sega producer Toru Nakahara—who has worked on the Sonic the Hedgehog movie franchise—will also executive produce.
