In Catching Fire, Peeta and Katniss both make Haymitch promise that he will prioritize saving the other in the Quarter Quell. Both are angry with him afterward for breaking that promise and prioritizing the rebel plot. But the promise Haymitch chose to keep in the quell was the one he made to Lenore Dove, to not let the sun rise on another reaping.

idk man there's just something about the capitol doing everything in their power to erase haymitch's humanity and love for his allies and crafting a purely selfish, callous image of him to send back to the districts only for him to still be greeted with support and care when he returns to district 12, even from louella's family. I don't know if I can even articulate it but yeah... the capitol tried but they couldn't erase the love and the community that already existed in the districts.

they immediately set up morgana's character so perfectly with this one singular shot of her reacting to the execution in s1e1

her reaction here establishes her as someone who holds a position in court and has a clear distaste for uther's actions but isn't in a position where she can do anything to stop the execution. and crucially, instead of turning a blind eye towards it she makes herself watch it!

morgana in the earlier seasons is such a deeply empathetic character stuck in a position where she feels helpless to do anything about other people's suffering. that is the very foundation for her later development during which she loses that very empathy that put her on this path in the first place

can’t believe Suzanne Collins had Wyatt Callow, who knew the odds of all the tributes’ deaths better than his own name, die protecting Lou Lou, who he statistically knew wouldn’t make it anyway. had Louella McCoy, who was immediately ready to try and stick it to the capital any way she could in the games, die before she even reached the arena. had Maysilee Donner, who constantly talked back, who wanted to die with her head up, who didn’t want to be treated like an animal by the capital, die mangled on the ground after having her vocal chords ripped out by a capital-manufactured bird. had Haymitch Abernathy, who from the moment he learned of Beetee’s plan, knew he was ready and willing to give up his life so that his friends and family could live, be forced to live without them, knowing all he did in the arena was for nothing. that everyone died anyway. sick and twisted.

Thinking about Maysilee Donner. A girl who refused to let the Capitol dehumanize her. A girl who wanted to die with dignity, without begging for her life, because that mattered to her. Who set up a place setting with napkins and forks in the middle of the arena because she is a human being. Who loved jewelry and fashion and believed that her appearance sends a message about who she is, and who wanted that message to be respectable, dignified, worth something.

Thinking about Maysilee Donner who was unafraid to slap the woman who pulled her name in the reaping and who threw clever insults towards anyone who provoked her, no matter who they were. Maysilee Donner who believed human dignity is inherent but respect is earned and who refused to give respect to those who did not deserve it.

Maysilee Donner whose father threw money at the reaping stage as if that could save her, and the money floated to the ground just like the confetti, meaningless paper that signified nothing when placed against the power of the Capitol. Whose privilege could not save her. Who recognized that reality and faced it with more fortitude than any person should ever have to display. Maysilee Donner.
