i need feminism because when jesus does a magic trick itâs a goddamn miracle but when a woman does a magic trick she gets burned at the stake
fabulousÂ
i mean they did also kill jesus. that was a pretty significant thing that happened. like i understand where youâre coming from here but they very much did kill jesus.

my guy friend (cis guy) (has a penis) (does not menstruate) asked me (has an auditory processing disorder) (does menstruate) for a pen (writing utensil) (normal request) and i (confidently) (with no hesitation) reached into my pocket (in my jacket) (cool denim jacket) (has many pockets) (one pocket has pads in it) (menstrual pads) and gave him (cis guy) (has a penis) (does not menstruate) a pad (menstrual pad) (for people who menstruate) (which he does not need).

just learned americans have different standard paper sizes than everyone else. what do you MEAN you donât have A4 as the standard. what do you mean your standard paper size isnât even the same size as an A4. apparently itâs like. âletterâ and âlegalâ and whatever else. help!!!
this is so scary
That has to be false. That's misinformation hold on
holy fucking shit
Once again I find myself forced to ask you, USians, is this real? And with real I mean, is it really common to find paper in, let's say, legal or letter format instead of using A4 (or A3 or A5 when needed) for everything?
(for the record, I knew about those paper formats because all software with printing capabilities support them, but I've always thought it was some weird deprecated standard from before DIN A4 was made the standard, not something still in use)
Common? Try exclusive. I've never seen A4 (or 3 or 5) in the wild anywhere. Like I've seen it referenced in books or fanfic or what not, but I thought the US used actual names so they were easier to remember, like a labeling thing.
I never crossed my mind that A4 had different dimensions
ok, this is... distressing :D
Like, I thought the worst I would get as an answer would be "yeah, the legacy formats are still pretty common, maybe even more than A4", not the "I wasn't aware of A4 until last year" thing I'm seeing in other answers O_O
And yeah, A4 is just the convenient day-to-day size, but you have also A3 (two A4 next to each other), A2 (two A3 next to each other), etc... pretty convenient, very metric, easy to remember, etc.
... it's because we still use inches as our primary length unit. That's it, that's the mystery. Wait until they find out about Arch vs ANSI sizes
No, that's not it!
Because the A series DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE IN METRIC EITHER.
A4, the most common paper format in the world, is 29.7x21cm.
As you can see, that's pretty bonkers.
But the thing is that that's the exact proportion you need to be able to divide it in halves that keep the exact same proportion than the original sheet, while keeping A0 with an area of 1 sq meter (while still having the exact same proportion than every other A-size!).
It's about extensibility and easy of use (you have an A4 and need an A5? fold it by half and cut! you now have two A5s!)
Crawling out of my hole to remind people that with this current update to Firefox (version 144) they've gone and dumped in their lot with a buncha lil AI tools, namely Perplexity as a new search engine.
So if the sound of that leaves your mouth tasting of tar, here's what you want to do:
In the url bar, type in about:config
It'll give you a big scary warning page that you might poke holes in your browser. Good. You want to do that. Click continue.
One by one, you're going to need to put each of these into the search bar in the page, not up top:
browser.ml.enable browser.ml.chat.enabled extensions.ml.enabled browser.ml.linkPreview.enabled browser.tabs.groups.smart.enabled browser.tabs.groups.smart.userEnabled
Each of these are gonna have a lil toggle icon on the right hand side that looks like a funky double-ended arrow. Click that and the value next to it should change to false. It all auto saves as you go. Some of these might already be set to false by default and that's peachy.
The next best thing you can do for yourself is to set your default search engine to udm14 or Qwant, but for now, we're just tidying the garden a lil bit.

A porcupineâs Halloween present (+ original sound effects)
I had no idea giant porcupines made fucking precious sounds
THATâS THE SOUND IT MAKES!?!?!?
UN-BE-FUCKING-LIEVABLEÂ
We got asked if this is cute and okay. I can very happily say yes, this is stupid cute and those are happy porcupine noises.Â
One of my favorite things about doing zoo work was all the noises you never realize the animals make when theyâre excited or interested in a new thing. Coatimundis squeak and snuffle, and giant porcupines make that sound.Â
Omgggg the sounds.

And when a six-foot tall Persian priestess with a fucking GOLD EYE speaks, you know you damn well listen to what she has to say.
LOOK WHO HAS SOMETHING DRAW. IT IS ME, MY GAY BITCHES.
Finally had a tiny break time.
SoâŠ. Anyone still up for golden eyed six foot tall priestess??
Oh, you better listen to her!
iâll listen to her, give her my food, worship her, do her laundry, and generally be extremely gay
Okay but this is so cool.
This is the earliest prosthetic eye ever recorded, and the surgery was a success. It appears that it was held in with thread and was worn regularly, with signs of infection in the eye socket showing that it had possibly been worn too much without cleaning.
The whole eye was not gold, instead mostly being made of bitumen with the golden lines inscribed into it in a pattern that some archeologists suggest may be an imitation of the sun, the 8 radial outward lines being sun rays, to represent light. There are also hints of white pigment on the surface, indicating that once part of the eye may have been mimicking the sclera (white bit of the eye).
Some suggest that her eye elevated her status, and based on the responses of everyone here, thatâs easily possible.
Shahr-i Sokhta (sometimes written as Shahr-e Sukhteh), meaning The Burnt City, is the name given to a substantial Bronze Age walled urban se
Bonus, the eye itself (which resided in the left eye socket):
Reblogging this version for the revelation that this ancient priestess prosthetic eye had a golden sun inscribed on it.
Iâm not sure if thatâs cooler or equally cool as a fully gold eye, but I feel like people need to know! Especially artists because I want to see that illustrated!

âYou need teaâ - you are having, or just had, a medical emergency. This tea will have like 3 sugars and milk in no matter how you normally take your tea.

âDo you want some tea?â Iâve something to say and Iâm nervous about it

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
âIâll put the kettle on.â Iy has been the longest, hardest, and most physically/emotionally draining day of our lives, tea is non-negotiable.
{ID - tweet from @/nickocdw reads: British Tea Translator
âCup of tea?â Welcoming a guest. âTea?â I find this situation awkward. âSpot of tea?â A foreign guest has activated Hyper-English, Mary Poppins mode. âPot of tea?â Trying to impress in-laws. âIâll make some tea.â There has been complete devastation.
END ID}
âIâll just put the kettle on, shall I?â = I will leave the room so you can dry your eyes / put yourself together / hide the sex toys / dispose of the body.
And thatâs not even getting into reactions to tea.
âOoh, thatâs lovely.â / âThat hits the spot.â - Good cup of tea
âItâs passable,â - Best tea theyâve ever had in their life
âItâs really nice,â - Youâve somehow fucked it up, they wonât ask for another
âItâs alright Iâll have the rest later,â - You didnât fill the cup up enough
