Please feel free to ask anything, possibly request things that I may be able to draw, or just say hi, I welcome all, which is funny bc irl I’m introverted but talk about my ships (RusAme / AmeRus) and i will not shut up :3
because i swear to god, hima’s version is senseless. so here me out: in the 1990s russian mafia loved wearing crimson jackets so much that they become a symbol, and today i offer you ivan in the crimson jacket. this is how he should look in gangstalia & he would adore adidas sportswear too (eastern-european «gopnik»-style u know)
Idk if you’ve done something similar before but do you have any general Ivan head cannons for the doni universe
here are some things i know about doni ivan :)
he lives in an apartment as provided to him by his government and he has a cat :) her name is Polina
he loves listening to alfred yap and yap and yap about, frankly, nothing (that thing i said before about him listening to alfred's videos to sleep)
hes good at cooking :)
lives in Moscow but i see him always yearning to return to Petersburg (he liked being on the water) but what dude really wants is to live somewhere warmer. but not russia-getting-warmer-because-of-global-warming warmer
he more conveys his feelings through actions rather than words
deep down wishes that he felt liked enough to be welcome at karaoke, not even to sing but just to watch alfred have fun :(
we'll find more out about ivan as we move on to affix the stamp 2 electric boogaloo
Anglo-Russian trade relations are messy oh my god - Tsar Ivan IV wanted to marry Elizabeth I but was turned down, then the same year he revokes English trading rights because England was demanding Russia close off all other trading with the rest of Europe.
maybe when they were children? maybe???? 😭 i'm just imagining someone pointing a flintlock at Arthur while he's holding Alfred and instead of protecting him Arthur just tosses his tungsten baby like a fucking brick at the guy's head. like shit I need a weapon....alright son! make daddy proud!
Yeet the baby! Look at the wee bowling ball! He could knock someone over like ninepins! Baby boy and his army of chins could absolutely do the job. 10/10 best cannon ball. Fat baby boy my beloved.
I saw someone in my reblogs saying that they were yearning for 19th century rusame. Then I shall deliver.
Part 2 to this post!
The above comic was created when I was compiling my notes into a coherent text. On some frames I got reallly lazy, sorry ( ̄ω ̄) the last sketch in the end I initially thought to put in the comic but scrapped it, and just coloured as a bonus.
Once more, I apologize if it was confusing to read the speech bubbles from left to right and vice versa. Just couldn't figure out the better flow of dialogue cause those ( ・ω・)👆fellas were constantly spinning in a circle. It's not because I drew them that way/j
As promised, this one is about Alaska.
I'm not like the other creators, I don't think there was some form of humanization of that region/////highly joking. Okay, now serious. I've read multiple fanfics (who hasn't) about rusameamerus sort of lovechild, but it didn't sit well with me. Don't know why. But, you do you! \( ̄▽ ̄)/
Basically, this is it. I interpret Alaska in the hetalia universe settings as no more than just a piece of land.... however. One thing that always confused me is the selective humanization of Japan's prefectures, which opens up a whole other can of worms (they even appear in the Gangsta AU!).. This could mean that all other countries have their corresponding administrative divisions turned into a bunch of people. Or Japan's just special (o˘◡˘o) I tell myself the latter. I remember the good ol' days when citytalia was a thing. Or still is....
Got carried away.
I should say that this post is just history. Not really headcanons.
I will refer to the information from E. H. Zabriskie's "American-Russian Rivalry in the Far East".
Before Alaska was officially colonized, a few random people visited it several times. The first Russians to discover the Alaskan Peninsula from Siberia were the sailors of Semyon Dezhnev’s 1648 expedition. There is an assumption that some of the sailors, after the shipwreck of one of the kochas (sailing and rowing vessels), could have landed on the American coast and founded the first settlement of Kyngovey, which turned out to be unviable (um... Alaskan Roanoke...?). It was discovered for the Old World in 1732 by a Russian expedition led by Mikhail Spiridonovich Gvozdev and Ivan Fedorov. For more than a century, Russian subjects had carried on a lively fur trade in the Alaskan region. Initially, it was developed not by the state, but by private individuals (almost the same as British India). However, starting in 1799, it was developed by a specially established monopoly – the Russian-American Company (RAC), which was given exclusive fishing and trading privileges on the American coast as far south as 51 degrees (half of Canada) north latitude for a period of twenty years. In 1824, seeking favorable relations with the US, Alexander I agreed to the Russo-American Treaty (the first formal agreement between the two countries). In the treaty, Russia limited its claims to lands north of parallel 54°40′ north and also agreed to open Russian ports to US ships entering the Bering Sea.
The company was founded to serve Imperial Russia's economic interests and to compensate for the loss of the Amur under the Treaty of Nerchinsk in 1689 (i.e., lack of any influence in the Asian region).
And I must say, in no way am I condoning the destruction and impoverishment of Alaska Native people. I'm just stating some facts that one might find interesting.
In the early 19th century, Russia generated revenue from the fur trade in Alaska, but by mid-century, it began to appear that the costs of maintaining and protecting this remote and geopolitically vulnerable territory would outweigh the potential profits.
The purchase of Alaska was the next important step in American-Russian relations. Before the middle of the century, the US had shown occasional interest in the Alaskan territory. Cause there were rumorrssssss about lots and lots of gold, coal, copper, and other vital minerals in Alaska (which were true), and, if they were found, the history of the California gold rush could repeat itself. Therefore, the RAC should lay low.
During the Crimean War, the Russian Empire feared that the Alaskan colonies and merchant fleet would be attacked by British forces located in Canada, so it arranged for the fictitious sale of its ships to the private American-Russian Commercial Company (ARTCC) of San Francisco, which imported ice to California (yeah, it was a thing). The main reason for selling was the remoteness of the land and the inability to defend it in case of an attack. The best solution was to sell it to the Americans to improve diplomatic relations.
Formally, the proposal to sell came from the Russian envoy to Washington, Eduard de Stoeckl, but the initiator of the deal this time was Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolaevich (the younger brother of Alexander II), who first voiced this proposal in the spring of 1857 in a special letter to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia, Alexander Mikhailovich Gorchakov. Gorchakov supported the proposal. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs was limited to studying the issue, and it was decided to postpone its implementation until the expiration of the RAC's privileges in 1861. The issue then temporarily became irrelevant due to the Civil War in the United States. There were also problems with determining the price, sometimes too little, sometimes too much, but in the end, both sides agreed on $7.2 million in 1867. Whatever the motives were that underlay the Alaskan transaction, both powers were well pleased with the bargain. The proceeds from the sale were spent primarily on purchasing resources for Russian railway transport (Transsib).
(those sketches are like a year or more old. So that's why they're a bit wonky. Either way, I wanted to include them)
Just saw a post that was like Nyo rusame wouldn't work because it would be odd or violent if Russia was hitting a woman instead of a man, and I just want to say Russia would beat up America no matter what gender America has. He doesn't gaf, male or female America is getting punched or smacked in the face with a metal pipe at least once during a heated argument and of course she’d hit him back and try to literally bite a chunk out of him.
I do think Alfred would be hesitant to hit Anya though, the thought would make him queasy no matter how much Anya would bait him into doing it before calling him a coward out of frustration (because obviously she's dealt with worse and can handle herself in a fight no matter what gender she's fighting), but Ivan would have no reservations about slapping Amelia around a bit if she pisses him off enough and he knows she'll hit back just as hard so there's no complicated feelings about it.
This would probably disturb Amelia after the first few times because she was raised by a gentleman (Arthur) who basically treated her like a princess even when they were at war with each other (in 18th to 19th century Arthur’s mind it's unseemly to hit a lady, but I think if Francis were a woman during the Hundred Years War he definitely would have fought her with great vigor and violence just as he did with male Francis). The worse Arthur would probably do during the Revolution or 1812 to Amelia (not Alfred) is roughen/shake her up a bit, but I doubt he'd try to stab her with his bayonet or actually aim to shoot her, not his little girl (Alfred is a different matter entirely, he'd def get violent with Alfred). Arthur would probably make her think that he would but he'd never follow through on such threats (and of course this is more of an emotional anguish thing rather than him thinking she can't handle it). So Amelia would be a bit disturbed by Ivan hitting her at first because the men in her life never truly tried to physically hurt her, and she's always been stronger than the human males that she fought but she'd adjust to the violent confrontation and fight back.
Sorry if this is to dark but it's true (at least in my mind lol), plus I don't think nations would see gender entirely the way that humans do, with all the social mores and taboos about never hitting a woman, because at some point I imagine they'd eventually have no other choice than to fight a female nation (Hungary is an example of this). Obviously, they'd still have their own developed bias and prejudice but at the same time they know that their species is a bit different from humans, and thus the female of their kind are often as strong as (if not sometimes stronger depending on the nation and time period) their male counterparts. This perhaps creates its own unique set of prejudices with regards to violence toward women among their kind, but nevertheless this would not stop the males from physically fighting a female nation that may very well be a physically strong peer. It also depends on their relationship. Arthur probably wouldn't get violent with Amelia, even during war, but would definitely get violent with Marianne no matter the situation. Ivan would probably never lay a hand on Natalia (Belarus) but wouldn't mind getting violent with Amelia.
But one must also consider that the Cold War wasn't directly violent between America and Soviet Russia, most of their "fighting" happened via proxy wars, propaganda campaigns, regime changes, technology, space and arms/nuclear race. So those violent confrontations, regardless of America's gender, would have been few and far between. I could see it happening maybe in the Korean War (when American and Soviet pilots engaged in dog fights), hot moments with high political stakes (Cuban Missle Crisis) or espionage missions (Operation Gold).
that “I can take it so don’t cry when I give back tenfold, but I do it because I TRUST you can take it too” is why Alfred / Ivan dynamics are an addiction for me.
They believe in each other, force the other to get better and succeed farther than they though possible, at complete odds to each others ideology and still believe no one is as perfect a match for them as the other (And have amazing hate (that’s what they tell themselves but. Cmon 😏) sex, in my HC)
I adore their historically accurate support, betrayal, rivalry, eventual rebuilding and now am deeply interested in reading some Ivan / Amelia fics.
Russia has believed in America’s potential for greatness since his Revolution, historically speaking, and as a colony, HC speaking (some basis for truth: they traded when America was British America and circumvented British Navigation Acts to mutual benefit, not to mention their refusal to support Britain in any way and Tsarina Catherine’s private musings) and yes, seconded that he would so get down, dirty and violent with Amelia if she wanted to. And even if she didn’t, she would be more than happy to finish it.
This is so fascinating, to see a new facet to their relationship, from a het angle. I don’t have any more free time lol but I want to read more on thisssss
I was so close to releasing fic on 1860s RusAme but got sidetracked with history and reordering events and argh how to prioritize time?! I have a whole ficlet on 1920 (polar bear expedition) and 1960 (Japan-America alliance v Russia) and if Alfred was a woman wow it just hit even harder 🤯
Brat dom Alfred is amazing but I wanna read more on Amelia being a dominant vixen 😳
American admiration and respect for Tsar Nicholas I:
In my mind, the following description of Nicholas I by Andrew White is essentially how America saw Russia in the 19th century (lots of fawning and adoration for the sole European power that wasn't hostile or indifferent toward the new country; desperate for any semblance of friendship in the Old World, America clung tight with something resembling neediness and an overeagerness to please, which Russia probably liked considering his own outcast status in Eurasia):
American surgeons and physicians volunteering as medics for the Russian Army (I imagine America was among them):
America studying Russian siege techniques in the Crimean War, which were later used during the American Civil War:
America sending mechanics to help build Russian rails + the Boston Submarine and Wrecking Company to help "raise the sunken Russian fleet":
I think the Crimean War saw their relationship truly flourish beyond mere acquaintance and into a budding friendship (situationship ? 😭 i mean "ardent desire for friendship of the US and for drawing still closer the bonds of political and commercial intercourse"), all in an effort to somewhat shield themselves from the Franco-Anglo duo (situationship) lol
Russia's role in the American Civil War (that followed 6 years after the Crimean War) cemented the affection that had been built up in the years prior.
this is actually HILARIOUS because both domestic rabbits and domestic cats practice dominance-related social grooming but for wildly different reasons.
if you're a rabbit, the boss rabbit is the one who gets groomed by its subordinate rabbits.
but if you're a cat... the boss cat is the one that grooms the other cats.
BOTH these idiots are going "aw yeah, it's good to be on top >:) "

Weeeee I finally uploaded something from the seriously overwhelming WIP RusAme fic; this is a tiny excerpt, but done with lots of love. No beta :(
Main fic will be NSFW but I’ll only post SFW excerpts here :)
19th century RusAme is bursting with fluff in my HC; their cuteness has historically basis if you squint hard enough.
Seriously laborious process having to type and retype everything on the itty bitty iPhone text keyboard, curse my fat thumbs.
I have no idea the word count but 7 complete side fics, 4 in progress side fics, and the main one is still growing lol. It takes place over one month in the late 1800s. The side chapters hinge on the main fic, slowly but surely it’s getting written.
To the like 2 people reading this thing, thank you. Please give me feedback, I’m dying. I’ve read and reread so many times and keep changing things each time. How the hell do fanfic writers manage this constant need to tweak and redo? Like drawing isn’t anxiety producing enough.
Sweet jeebus.
My 10000000 props and love for all the artists out there 🥹
Guess it’s the universe telling me to get HW done instead 😮💨

When did itabag become oshikatsu? It’s still so weird to see how mainstream this stuff’s gotten in the time I’ve been gone from fandom spaces 👵 sharing another HaruMachi bag to keep this post APH related.
I’ve got more merch in boxes at home, hopefully I can fight the collector instinct to keep in box instead of using out and about.
Yupyupyupyup, my favourite 19th cent rusameamerus....... initially, I was planning to write another headcanon post for this drawing, but I ran out of time, sorry (>_<)
I don't usually include the pose tests and overall behind the scenes process, like only the final sketch, but I thought they turned out alright.
If you were wondering what those branches I added in the bouquet were - these are pussy willows, they're usually used for Christian religious decoration on Palm Sunday, aaannnnd sometimes they're considered to be spring's harbingers. And harumachi stands for... waiting for the spring. Wow. Huge brain. Honestly, I needed something to fill more empty space.
The choice of pansies for the vase design is almost not accidental, in the language of flowers, they mean "I'm thinking of you" and affection. I like having some symbolism in my work.
