theres always time for dental hygiene !
“Feed Me”, Little Shop of Horrors, 1986
AU where Orin follows Seymour around as a ghost after he dies
wiltpetals:
his hand is shook with the air of someone who’d been taught the proper way to do so, “ i can offer an extra pair of hands for certain – i, um.. my name is ophelia. and no - no, i’m from denmark. “ damned denmark, for sure. she looks around the shop idly, shifting awkwardly on her feet, “ but my circumstances bought me here. it’s quaint. not what i am used to at all. “
“ denmark! “ seymour echoes, eyes sparkling with curiosity, obviously unaware of the national tragedy that had just befallen the people of denmark ... and the girl in front of him who was a solid player within it. “ gosh , i’ve never even left skid row, much less been to another country. it sure would be refreshing to have a new perspective in the team. “ shifting from professional to personal territory, seymour tilted his head and said: “ have you got a place to stay and everything? what a long ways away! “

“THEY’RE FOR A GRAVE,” she says, quite bluntly. No point hiding it, is there? And Lydia isn’t exactly looking for sympathy, but she’s decided that people dance around the topic of death far too much, and it’s a damn fact of life that people die so she’s going to talk about it as bluntly as she likes. And if her father would rather pretend that it didn’t happen, then — no, she won’t think about him, for now. This whole thing is purely for herself & her dead mom, and she won’t allow Charles to taint it for her. “They have to be pink.”
her bluntness seems to strike him, as seymour blinks abruptly and his expression of pure sympathy only worsens. he holds out a hand a little bit for a second, as if he was about to awkwardly touch her arm in a consoling manner, but then he thinks better of it and forcibly tucks the hand in his pocket with an apologetic look on his face. “ i -- i’m very sorry for your loss, “ seymour finally says, genuinely. “ right. pink. coming right up. “ he nodded, pivoting on his heel (internally kicking himself for how dumb and awkward he acted!) to get fresh ones from the back room, not like the older display ones that dumb people from uptown bought.
@horrauer· :
SHE HESITATES TO get too close to the strange plant situated in the corner of Mushnik’s . New , unusual , green tendrils wrapped ‘round large terracotta pot . THE AMAZING AUDREY II , mother’s been adamant about seeing it &&. her excitement shows in the hustling , bustling , oohs &&. aahs ‘till the novelty wears off and a bushel of roses becomes more important . Little girl is left alone , staring , thinking aloud . ❝ It looks mean … ❞
@plantfed / starter call / Ib .
when seymour sees the very small, unsupervised girl standing near audrey ii, he hates that his first primal instinct is to grab her and swoop her away from its jaws, which he’d seen open and moving far too many times! instead, he comes to stand beside her, hands tucked into his pockets ... just to make sure she was safe. the words, however, prick seymour’s ears, and he smiles a little, daring to rest a hand on audrey ii. back like when things were normal.
“ well ... twoey here isn’t the sweetest of girls, “ seymour explains to ib. “ she’s a type of venus flytrap, which makes her a carnivore. she traps ... animals, in her teeth. that isn’t very nice. “ remembering himself ( and herself ), seymour lets the hand affectionately petting audrey ii to fall.

——— — PLAYING STUPID AND ACTUALLY BEING STUPID was a very thin line to cross, and luckily, magenta could read humans easily — this man was somewhere in the intersection of BOTH. she chooses to ignore the question, instead leaning over the counter of the dim flower shop, keeping eyes locked. she would play the polite domestic at home, but this was her own mission, and she could do it how she wanted. dark eyes gesture to the creature, looking almost HARMLESS in the corner. but there was only one way it had gotten that big. ❛ THAT. i’ve heard about you on the news. do you think i don’t know what you’ve been doing to it to make it GROW ? i am more familiar with this species than you know. ❜
holding magenta’s gaze was extremely difficult -- she was so intimidating, so determined and resolute, something seymour never was. nervously, he couldn’t help but break eye contact, glancing around and finding something for his hands to do around the shop. at first, he moves over to some pots and begins to sprinkle water over them from a can, but slowly, he ceases when he hears her words, blood running ice cold.
turning around, seymour holds up all his digits which were coated in a motley variety of band - aids, as if to explain ... and conveniently leave out the death of orin scrivello. now, he would play dumb about that as best he could. voice soft and trembling, seymour said: “ y ... you are? where are you from? where is ... it, from? “ and then, glancing over at the still plant, seymour added: “ could - could we speak someplace private? “

“A dental accident?” Klaus asked with a scowl on his face before shaking his head. “Yikes. Nobody likes the dentist. What a way to go,” he said, blowing out a huff of air. He laughed again, picking up another little pot and looking at it closely. It was a cute little shop, really, even if the dead dentist put a damper on things.
He hoisted himself up on the table, where there was a little bit of room. He crossed his legs and asked, “Were the two of you close or something?”
“ he was a dentist ... i guess he might’ve been happy to go like that, “ the sentence comes out in a mumble as he turns his back on klaus and heads to the arrangement of flowers off to the side, setting his shears on the table and using his hands to carefully spruce them up a little bit, make them look more interesting for customers. speculating about whether or not orin was happy when he died was an idea seymour had to comfort himself, having witnessed it. after all ... he was high as a kite when he went. better than not, right? not as painful as it could’ve been, right?
however, seymour turned around abruptly when klaus asked, and seemed to make himself small, arms hugging himself against his chest. he pauses, as if unsure of what to say for a long moment. “ um ... no, no, we had only just met, “ he admitted, and glanced into empty space, brows creasing, saying: “ he ... you ... weren’t a .. good person, orin. “ his expression seemed to steel, and he met klaus’ gaze. “ in fact, he -- he might’ve been the most evil person i ever met. “
I remembered how much I liked this movie
this is possibly the Best thing ive ever seen @plantfed @plantnamed

“Oh, yeah,” Klaus answered easily, deciding to lean back against one of the tables in the shop. He assumed that Seymour meant about seeing ghosts rather than the spirit itself. “I’ve been seeing them since I was born, actually. It’s a weird thing I have. Ability? Curse? Who knows.” He laughed, picking up a small pot and eyeing it for a moment.
He looked up at the spirit that was standing behind Seymour. Whatever fight they had going on, it seemed personal. Accepting that he could see the dead was hard enough. He really didn’t want to get involved in the drama of it all. “Whoever he is, he seems like an asshole,” Klaus said with a scowl before turning back to Seymour. “You know who I’m talking about? Black hair? Tall-ish?”
“ wow. that’s ... that’s, um ... “ unsure whether to choose between awesome and terrible, seymour could only shake his head in dumbfounded disbelief. he was a pretty gullible guy -- always willing to believe people, if only for the childlike faith in others to tell the truth -- but this? well ... this was hard to have doubts about. how could anyone possibly guess such an intimate detail? and why would they?
soberly, feeling terrified nausea rising in his throat but doing his best to keep it from rising to the surface, seymour nodded meekly. “ ... y - .. yes. i know who that is. um ... orin. orin scrivello. “ he said. just speaking the name out loud was like tasting poison ; indeed, seymour looked as though he could feel the bitterness of it on his tongue. “ i was there, when he, um, died. it - it was a horrible accident. dental, accident. “ looking down at the floor, the man fidgeted with his shears and mumbled: “ it was awful. “ still feeling the sleek, warm blood on his hands ... !
@plantfed.
“DO YOU DO ARRANGEMENTS ?” The question is spoken with the kind of melancholy to be expected from a girl dressed in all black; if it were any other century, it would be easy to assume she’s in mourning. “I’m looking for … pink carnations. And a single rose.”
immediately, expression becomes soft and sympathetic for someone who seymour perceived to be in mourning -- and such a young girl, too, only the tiniest bit shorter than him! sure, her clothes were a dead giveaway, but the look on her face sold the truth to him. “ w - well -- sure we do, “ seymour told her, jabbing a thumb backwards in indication of the arrangements by audrey sign that hung over the door, just subtle enough to be missable. “ that sounds lovely. what -- what’s the occasion, if i may ask? “ seymour inquired, tapping numbers into the cash register. usually the people buying flowers for a funeral wanted lilies, not such happy colors.
