Hello! We have never actually made an introduction post, so we're going to do that right now.

We are the Pilots of the Ship: Please Call Stella. We are a plural system. We do not have a singular host, but a number of equal, rotating co-pilots. We are all nonhuman fictives.

Please speak to the current fronter and address them by name. If you don't know who that is, ask.

You can also greet us with the title "Pilot" individually or "Stella Pilots" collectively.

Bodily we are an adult in our 30s and are only interested in speaking with other adults (body age 18+ only). Bodily we are white, Irish-Lithuanian American. We are all Queer in various ways, and we are Jewish.

We speak English, Spanish and a little bit of Yiddish. We also study Japanese, Hebrew, Lithuanian, and Korean. We are also systematically documenting two other languages that exist in our inworld.

New and aspiring artists, experimenting with new ways to play with lines, colors, shapes, words, music, dance, film, poetry, and theatre.

We don't have a DNI or anything. Just don't be an ass and we'll be good. Don't pull us into any syscourse, we do not care. System origin is not a factor for us.

witch hunts, speculations and accusations harm the writing community as much as ai does. if not more. I don’t want to see another innocent writer get driven away from the community because someone decides to harass and accuse them for using ai just because their fic happens to have “ai telltales” — the same telltales ai got from having been trained on millions of human-made works to mimic how real humans actually write.

As someone who absolutely HATES reading AI generated fanfics, thank you for saying that.

I hate AI - the product that's used to 'save time and money', and not AI - the technology that can transform our lives without saving us a single penny (like radiology scans). And I hate that people think they NEED something that didn't exist 5 years ago.

But you know what's worse? Humans treating each other like shit for falling for it. As fellow AO3 users, we should remember the root of its operations. No censorship. Don't like, don't read. No one's putting a gun to your head and asking you to read the AI-fics. You're not paying a single penny to get those free words. Why participate in a witch hunt?

AI is bad, but are we going to be that arrogant about it that we believe we can spot real vs AI writing? That's the same confidence that CEOs have in their AI tools.

You know who suffers? Non-english writers who learned the pizzaz and gmalour of language online instead of through teenage interactions. People who try to sound cool and end up using the formats that seem captivating on social media platforms. People who just like writing in a very grammatically accurate fashion. People whose general writing styles are somewhat cold. People who are autistic and our writing style seems off because how we perceive the world doesn't match what others believe in. People who are interested in being a part of the Fandom but don't belong to the same world that you do (I live in a 3rd world country. My village cousins will never be able to understand why it's problematic to ask Chatgpt the little things but they still loved that one superman movie and because of covid they got access to cheap internet and could interact with the whole world and learned about Fandoms and just are jumping into it without having any idea what they're doing and that's probably unsafe but you cant really explain it to them because they'll think you're looking down on them and then someone sends them hate messages for using ai and asks them to kill themselves and they can't understand what they did wrong)

The people we hurt are real. No one's ever been shamed into making good decisions.

We've been thinking a lot about this kind of stuff lately; writing, making art, engaging in fandom in the post-covid, "dead internet", "ai can replace you" surveillance hell we are all living in. How can anyone make honest, vulnerable art in a space and time when 1. it feels like everyone is watching (and you're not crazy for feeling that way) 2. everyone is waiting for an excuse to jump down your throat for doing art "wrong" 3. there's a chance no one will believe that you made it anyway, especially if you use too many references or certain repeated structures (which is, you know, how communication works) 4. making art for art's sake and joy's sake is not seen as a valid use of your time; if you're gonna waste your time with silly things like that, you should be making money with it at least 5. the people in power who control the jobs, money, property, land, water, food, funding for science, education, healthcare and art actively hate anyone outside of their inner circle and it feels like a losing game. They made a water/electricity guzzling computer program intended to replace all work, even artistic expression. Why?

They haven't needed to work for survival, or take pride in a job, or sit down and dig deep to process the agony and sorrow of living in a world that was intentionally made for the interests of a very small group of people, but not YOU. The powers that be, have "jobs" sure, like "board member", "ceo of daddy's company", "startup innovator", "career politician" etc, but those aren't jobs in the same way that basically any other job is.

Your average everyday person has a job to put food on the table, pay for shelter, transportation, utilities, maybe a few nice toys and the occasional trip if you're really, really lucky. A lot of those jobs suck and could be automated, and many of the shitty dangerous ones honestly should be. A lot cannot and should not ever be automated. They are complex and need a person doing them.

But to Daddys Most Special Rich Board Member Boy, who never really worked a day in his life, work is boooooooring. It's board meetings and budget talk and rrrrrrgh. He just wants to go back to playing with his friends and their expensive toys.

And art? Real, impactful art? That requires digging deep into pain and being vulnerable with yourself, making mistakes, trying over and over and over until you get something you think is okay. A week later, you might HATE what you made. Then what? You need to make it again? And again? Or make it a different way? Or scrap it all and start again? What a pain in the ass. What a waste of time. Too stressful, too painful, and Daddy's Special Boy never needed to learn frustration or distress tolerance.

Wouldn't it be easier if a machine could just spit out the picture for you? No effort? No pain?

So now that's the future we are looking at. That's what we're all locked into and marching toward, and it feels impossible to escape.

So why bother making art? No one will like it. No one will believe I made it anyway. And even if they do, they'll pick it apart, pick ME apart. They'll shun me and kick me out of their clubhouse and I can't play coloring books, dolls, and essays with them anymore. So why bother? There's nothing new under the sun anyway.

So you make nothing.

You feel sad and alone and you wish you could make something but again, what's the point? They'll chew it up and spit it out, another piece of content to consume, devour, and discard.

I think that's why I see so many polls lately saying

"Should I make [this art idea I have]?"

1. Yes, you're the greatest genius in the world

2. No, that's the worst idea I have ever heard, dummy

I don't know where else to go with this ramble and this post is getting absurdly long, but all y'all before me helped put to words some things that have been rattling around in my brain for a while.
