This makes me so terribly sad.
This is medical protocols and procedures with lack of consent. If any of you were capable of giving consent and were properly informed of the risks, you wouldn't sound like this. The fact you think the only outcome of pumping your female body full of exogenous hormones at levels your body could never naturally produce only makes you grow extra hair and muscle, aka "look like a man" is proof that the medical and scientific communities are being incredibly negligent.
Fully informed consent is a cornerstone of medical science. Clearly for trans issues, this is passed over.
It is absolutely clear that not a single professional has ever received your informed consent for these procedures and protocols. If they had, you all would be aware that this sort of protocol carries with it a slew of potential side effects from minor irritations to major disability (aka "ruining your body" in a way that is specific to testosterone on the female body). It doesn't matter if you really want the treatment or not. Informed consent is not supposed to be voluntary on the part of the medical professionals. It is mandatory in every other medical procedure.
The point is that if an adult is informed of the risks, and chooses to continue regardless, that is their right. So, if you as female-bodied people are informed that long-term heavy exogenous testosterone usage can lead to early onset menopause, atrophy of internal organs, significant bone density loss leading to early osteoporosis, increased risk of circulatory and heart disease and stroke, male-pattern hair loss (balding), cystic acne, increased potential for depression, anxiety, or irritability, cognitive impairment, liver disease, weight gain, etc. (I don't think I need to go on, you all get the point.) That's one thing. You can see all the possible side-effects and make an informed decision whether it is worth the risk.
That's fine. That is your right as adults. You can decide, no matter what the chance of even the worst side effect, it's worth it to you.
But what i see here is gross negligence on the part of your doctors and medical practitioners. Obviously, you never gave informed consent. If you had, none of you would be denying the risks associated with virulization hormone protocols. You wouldn't be so flippant about it. You would have been informed that in some cases, one or multiple of these side effects could occur.
This isn't just about looks. When people say it "ruins" your body, it's because high levels of testosterone in female bodies are unnatural and almost always will cause one or more negative side effects. Yes, you'll get the positives you want like increased ability to gain muscle, body hair, clitomegaly, facial hair. But everything has a cost in your body if it shouldn't naturally be present, especially when it comes to hormones which act on your entire body, not just your genitals and skin. Having osteoporosis at 30 is ruining your body. Having to go on disability at 45 because your bones are so brittle and your heart is weakened is ruining your body and putting yourself into a horrible financial/ emotional situation. On purpose. Just because you personally don't like having a uterus, having it and your vagina painfully atrophy is actually ruining your body on purpose.
While I am not a huge fan of the word "ruin" either, it is probably the most evocative word we have to hit home how much damage you could potentially do to an otherwise healthy body.
Is acne, facial hair, and balding ruining your (womanly) body? No. Those are superficial traits of your appearance. They don't affect your quality of life. Is top surgery ruining your body? Also, no. Not in my opinion. But anything that makes you so ill or indisposed that it affects your quality of life is "ruining" your female body. Whatever validation you get from your gender presentation may outweigh whatever consequences (if any, some females are lucky they don't) you experience and loss of function in your body. And that's really your experience to have.
But what concerns me is all the comments here that act like long-term T protocols are completely harmless to a body that does not and would never be capable of producing that amount naturally. Your DNA, every cell in your body is coded a certain way, and it's fine if you want your doctor and yourself to try to play god, IF AND ONLY IF you give true informed consent. The medical field has been using testosterone therapies on women for decades. We are very aware of the side effects. If your doctor is claiming there aren't any, they are lying. Or an incredibly bad doctor.
The biggest criticism anti-trans folks have with transgender care is the claim that informed consent is ignored and overlooked in most cases. And I'm sorry but this is proving them correct. The flippancy and sheer lack of medical literacy I see on this post alone is actually very worrisome.
If you are all so certain of things, and your doctors are certain that it is beneficial, why are they withholding your ability to give informed consent? Why are you concerned about people being informed? If it's worth it, then why worry? Why deny there are potential side effects, some of which can significantly impact your quality of life, or potentially create fatal complications? If it is life-saving, informed consent should be a breeze.
All medical procedures carry risk, and in some cases, fatal risks. If this protocol didn't, it would be a medical miracle. It's unrealistic that exogenous hormone usage doesn't have any side effects that could "ruin" your body. Even antibiotics and antidepressants can ruin your body, in rare or extreme cases.
Why do you have to lie about trans hormone protocols? Why do you want to keep others from informed consent?
Either you are all ignorant because your medical professionals have been negligent and failed you, or you are purposely denying and lying about what you know.
