I am a writer. I started writing fiction in 3rd grade, when I realized that the books I loved to read had been produced by people (I used to think they just sort of ‘appeared’ like magic). At 15, I self-published my first novel after participating in Nanowrimo (National Novel Writing Month) for the first time. I have participated in Nanowrimo ever since 2004. In 2012, I became the Municipal Liaison for the Boone, NC region. Since Nanowrimo is a global non-profit organization, the staff rely on volunteers (Municipal Liaisons) to organize write-ins and other writing events during the month of November when the challenge takes place. In 2012, I also self-published a novel called “Spectrum,” through Smashwords. I currently have five manuscripts sitting on my hard-drive in need of editing, and I am working on three more novels. I am also a student at Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute, CCCTI for short. I am a language enthusiast, and I plan to major in Linguistics after I graduate. I will be transferring into UNC Chapel Hill, as they have the largest available course selection in Linguistics in North Carolina. The two languages that hold the most interest for me–right now, at least–from a linguistic standpoint are English and Spanish. Some of the other languages that interest me are Japanese, German, Icelandic, Swedish, French, and Finnish. On this blog, you will find a wide range of information. Most of it is oriented around writing, but there are also posts dealing with my beliefs/worldviews, as well as posts that deal with language as a whole.
Black Lives Matter. The tragic death of George Floyd is another name in a long list of BIPOC individuals who have been killed for existing. Racism is rampant in the United States, in every social institution imaginable, and the institution of the police is no different. Hell, the police was originally created to catch runaway slaves. If that doesn’t tell you how deeply racism is embedded in our…
When I first saw the story pop up in my news feed on August 3rd, I was horrified. I stay perpetually horrified by the news these days, as it is packed full of terrible inhumanities. Immigrants are held in concentration camps on our borders, American citizens with paperwork are being deported because officials refuse to believe in the validity of their identification, the constant assault on…
The harsh reality of living in the United States is that you cannot escape the fact that the government chooses to do terrible, horrendous things to people for reasons they think are justifiable but are really just ill-disguised bigotry and an age-old imperial mindset that has embedded itself into the minds of all but the most socially conscious citizens of this nation.
Spectrum, the bdsm homoerotica that I wrote a few years back, is currently part of Smashword’s summer promotion, and you can buy your own copy of it for $1. You can find it here: https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/282832
I’ve fallen kinda silent on this blog because I’ve been working hard on the previously announced Loki’s Torch collection. That will be released on August 1st, and I am moving…
I’ve added the work I’ve done over the last year to the non-fiction section of this site. Since I started graduate school last semester, most of my time has been dedicated to pursuing my Master’s degree.
My thesis is centered around the Flint Water Crisis and the systemic racism in the media coverage of the crisis. It seems that everything has kind of converged and led me to the realization that…
My paid article for the Wild Hunt. This is my first official paid *article.* I love that it’s for a Pagan title.
You can find it here: https://wildhunt.org/2018/12/column-the-lokean-community-what-we-really-look-like.html
In it, I discuss what the Lokean community, of which I am part, actually looks like, as there is confusion amongst the larger Pagan world as to why individuals choose to work…
I may be one of the few people I know who loves the idea of equality and hates the idea of equity. I’m sure, with that one statement, I’ve pissed off at least 1/3rd of the people I know. If you’re pissed off, go away until you can come and read through what I have to say like a rational adult. I don’t look at things the same way as you, so if you expect that from me, you’re being irrational.
While I originally planned to write a book for Loki, that morphed into putting together a school instead.
The school is intended to introduce people to Loki and the Lokean path, and it is also intended for people who often find themselves on the fringes of Heathenry and Paganism as a whole.
That school can be found here: https://lokiuniversity.wordpress.com/
If you’re interested in keeping the net neutrality laws that make the internet accessible to everyone, please visit https://www.battleforthenet.com/and fight for that to happen. The cable companies are fighting hard to end net neutrality so they can impose bandwidth limits, throttle access, and potentially even block content. Information control is one of the worst things a government can impose…
The following is a stream-of-consciousness essay I wrote, and I decided to share it with everyone.
Note: I first wrote this 3 years ago, and it is incredibly relevant today. Note that it is long, but it is worth reading.
Why do we spend so much time insisting on avoiding sad feelings? Why do we spend so much time running away from the hurt we feel? In our culture, being sad is like a social…
I was recently approved and selected as the editor of the Bella Online website for the Folklore and Mythology section. My first article has been posted: Prometheus and Coyote: The Theft of Fire. I will be adding at least one article per week, more if time permits. If there are any specific folklore related questions you’d like to have answered or just articles you’d like to see, please feel free…
As someone who is simultaneously fascinated and horrified by war – as a history major, if it were offered, my concentration would be in war studies – what happened in Charlottesville is devastating and terrifying. One man, James Alex Fields Jr., decided to escalate an already tense situation by giving into his impulse for violence. A woman, Heather Heyer, paid the greatest price for his…
While I’m taking classes over the summer and studying for the GRE, I’m also working on getting caught up with some reading that is way overdue. I have a summer reading list that is currently about 30 titles long, and I’m sure I’ll be adding titles to that list as the year goes on. My staple genre will always be fantasy, and the last book I read is no exception to that.
