we unlocked the after-work hike today and she was a big fan

#the weather was finally cool enough for us to get out is mostly what it is #did a quick 2.5k loop in about 40 minutes and popped home for dinner

Ummmmm my big doggies are 9 years old today? How the heck did that happen??

So grateful that they’re healthy and active still. My last personal dog that passed years ago did not reach 10 so having Sigurd and Zombie turn 9 is a big deal for me.

Just assume all other parameters are neutral. It's a friendly enough dog, you're not in a rush, etc.

Luna has learned what a salted sidewalk looks like, and now actively tries to walk on the road to avoid stepping on it, and then back onto the sidewalk when it's clear to avoid hurting her feet. Dogs really are too damn smart sometimes

#i am very impressed and slightly baffled tbh #ive never seen a dog avoid salt like that without having stepped on it first #only ever stepping on it. realizing it hurts. and then going onto the grass/snow to avoid it #she sees it coming and actively avoids it now which is very interesting

#she has never in her life growled #which is a HUGE problem considering she can be reactive. so many people dont see the signs when she's annoyed/upset/guarded #by many people i mean my dad and my brother who both like to push a dog's boundaries bc they think its fun and then get mad when snapped at #anyways yeah she doesnt whine or cry??? only many varieties of bark. which she does often and delightedly

There's nothing like multiple neighbourhood dogs suddenly dying while your own dog reaches senior ages to make you borrow grief from the future. Kissing thing thing on the head repeatedly 👇

#FEELING BAD ABOUT IT #tw pet death #she is in very good health and doing wonderful but i found out this morning that one of our neighbourhood friends #who was the same age as her and grew up together with her #was put down on tuesday after an aggressive cancer resulted in 3 hospitalizations and his QOL went down so much in 2 months #and another one passed away last month from bloat. he was only 3.#death is around every corner and it can happen so fast and im. dealing with it.

Took a mini vacation this weekend to wander the woods with this fool <3

#luna #she IS attached to the post to her left there which i made sure was sturdy before attaching the leash #but she was very good and sat very nicely for her liver anyways #we powered through a '3 hour hike' in just over an hour. turns out we walk fast. whoops #also it was the perfect day for a hike except that the ticks were out but like what can you do
