Further context: Durham city council (Reform UK) cut funding and support for Pride. The Durham Miner's Association and other trade unions raised enough money for Durham Pride 2026 to go ahead - a direct call back to when Lesbian and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM) raised money for mining communities when Margaret Thatcher seized union funding during the miner strikes of 1984-85.

At the 1985 Labour party meet, the motion to support LGBT rights as a party was passed due to a block vote from mining unions.

Stephen Guy, the chair of the Durham Miners’ Association, said that when it became apparent Durham Pride was under threat, he took it upon himself to “encourage the trade union movement to step up and do the right thing, and stand shoulder to shoulder with the LGBT+ community […] They not only raised funds for us, but came to our communities, uplifted our spirits when they were down, and showed their solidarity.”

to put on my serious hat for a sec after seeing a few tags along this line of thinking, joking aside: many things i have seen actually tagged 'latex gloves' or 'latex' generally aren't porn. they're entirely sfw pictures of clothed people in sexy outfits, which are attractive to people into the kink but absolutely not explicit. all goofing aside, it is absolutely not a given that something tagged with a common kink is going to be 'pornography': very often it will just be a picture of a hot person wearing clothing people find sexy or whatever!

the thing is, a clothed hot person in 'normal' sexy attire (e.g. a bikini) gets called a pin up, but a fully clothed person in anything considered 'weird' (e.g. latex) skips past that into getting called porn, despite being no more explicit. it genuinely is a double standard. close ups of hands in gloves may be intended to titillate, but they're not explicit! my joke on this post about me being horny aside, that many of the posts tagged 'latex gloves' are intended to be sexy truly does not automatically justify this kind of thing, because there is a double standard as to what gets to be a 'sfw pinup' and what is always 'fetish porn', yknow? what is considered 'explicit' is very much based on the idea certain kinds of non-explicit sexy posting are More Suspect, and i do think that is worth mentioning.

(People have pointed out that the latex thing is a hangover from Tumblr going very ott about stuff back when they were first censoring tags, and they have since stopped blocking latex as a tag but forgotten to remove 'latex plus thing' tags- but there are still a lot of blocked tags for which this is true where that isn't applicable, so. They're still blocking a lot of tags full of sfw pinup stuff that happen to include a lot of people doing entirely softcore stuff- and yet every day I log on and stolen nudes from trans sex workers are uncensored. The opening title card of the movie “HOLES” is misspelled in DVD and Blu-Ray copies of the film.

Often when a movie is transferred to DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4K formats, the titles have to be redone to read more legibly. When Disney released “HOLES” in 2003, the title card itself was written in small text in the corner of the screen. If transferred to home video normally, this title would have been only five pixels tall and too faint to make out.

But in early 2004, when the time came to alter the title for home video, the digital technician responsible typed the name wrong and quality control never caught it, all the way through the film’s blu-ray release in 2018. No fans wrote in noticing the flaw, nobody in quality for the disc releases, nobody at all noticed, and so the flaw remains to this day.

When we at FIJMU brought the error to Disney’s attention, a kind intern in an old fashioned hat simply took the initiative and explained, “I can fix that.”
