Oh I really do enjoy how the 2020s are shaping up to be a lot like the 1920s. You get a generation of lost kids that grew up during a war. They reject their parents conservative attitudes. The youth has created a resurgence of Dadaism and Nihilism that the older generations don’t understand. An artistic boom replacing the materialistic tendencies of our parents. The queer community is thriving in a way that it hasent been in years. Activism and socialist ideologies are on the rise again. How wonderful. It makes me want to go to Paris and be the next Gertrude Stein

Unfortunate news… scientists have discovered that shrimp do not see “extra colors”.

We thought that they did because they have 12 different molecules for photoreceptors, whereas humans have only 3. BIG difference, right??

Nope. Turns out that they simply do not have the mental wherewithal to blend, and so needed a separate receptor for each color. The human brain adds color emissions together to create a singular representative color, like reverse engineered printing. Shrimp can’t do that. They can’t take light emitting “green” and light emitting “red” and come back with “yellow”, like we do. They have to have a receptor for yellow, and are relatively horrible at distinguishing shades of colors.

So at the end of the day, not only do shrimp not have “extra colors”… they see less than we do. Shrimp can’t see the fake colors :(

They have those claws for ripping into termite mounds to find something to eat. Considering that scientists are currently studying termite mound construction for potential applications in concrete manufacturing, I guess it’s actually pretty logical that a pangolin would be able to tear through concrete given the right leverage and motivation. It being logical does not, however, make it any less fascinating or terrifying to watch.

Concrete? It looks like old plaster. And it’s really weak if it gets off the wall, creating a gap. You can pull it off with your fingers.

Dunno, probably concrete.

You add a thin layer of a different mix on top after making something big, to make it look nice. However, after a few years the outer layer dries up and chips really easy. You are supposed to rip it all off and redo the outer layer. Still costs a LOT less than regular stonework.

My neighbour had a large wall with this, when I was a kid. Closer to the end, if we hit the wall with a football in just the wrong (or right :P) spot, HUGE pieces would fall off.

Hard to tell by the GIF, might be old concrete-mix, might be plaster. But digging that stuff out with your fingers is hard anyway, so Sandshrew gets a thumbs up from me. They be DIGGIN’
