Look I like Knives Out too but it’s so funny how obvious the only other detective mystery many of you have seen is Sherlock. “Knives Out makes the brooding detective into a silly little guy” like my beloved fellow tumblr users there are so many silly little pal detective shows. Psych, Monk, Pushing Daisies, Jeeves & Wooster, Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, COLUMBO!! It’s a silly guy genre!!!!
You all just like the murder mystery and/or detective genre!!!!!!!!!!! Lean in!!!!!!
This is the opposite of those “oddly satisfying images”
it’s funny and all but it’s also an example of how corporations will cheat people in every single possible way they are legally able to get away with if there isn’t any system of regulation to protect consumers.
4. They look cool as hell
[ID: Photo of a laminated paper sign on a wall. The title and the first word of each point are in caps. It reads:
We wear our masks in public for three reasons:
1. Humility: I don’t know if I have COVID, as people can spread the disease before they have symptoms.
2. Kindness: I don’t know if the person nearby has a child battling cancer, or cares for their elderly mom. While I might be fine, they might not.
3: Community: I want my community to thrive, businesses to stay open, employees to stay healthy. Keeping a lid on COVID helps us all!!
/End description]
5. They disrupt the de facto surveillance state.
6. THREE NEW RESPIRATORY VIRUSES: Apparently there’s a ton of nasty crap to catch this fall (November 2022), and kids are especially susceptible to the new respiratory viruses going around right now. Let’s not kill the kids m'kay?
7. If it’s cold out, it keeps your face warm
7.a) keeping your nose warm now has scientific evidence backing up that a warm nose = stronger resistance to airborn viruses/etc.
so not only does a mask reduce the shit u put into the air, it actually *does* keep you personally more safe in a different but equally true way.
self proclaimed schizoposter nervously typing '911' into their phone and hovering their thumb above the 'call' key as they hawkishly watch a disheveled guy at a bus stop make repetitive movements and ramble to himself
You know what lemme just come back to this post because I (physically disabled, joint pain, cane user) was on a full train last night with the biggest heaviest backpack you could imagine bcs I’ve just become homeless and I was on my way to a friends house. I tried to ask people for a seat and got flat out ignored. Nobody would even look at me. It got to a point where I was literally shaking crying sobbing dry heaving resorting to begging “I’m really sorry everyone but can someone please give me their seat I have joint problems I’m in a lot of pain”, speaking to people directly “excuse me but you’re in priority seating and I’m disabled and I really need to sit down” and the only person in the whole train who would even LOOK at me while I was wheezing and clutching my stomach and sweating about to pass out in some of the most rancid pain I’ve ever felt in my life. was an old disheveled guy with a tic who was mumbling to himself. and he quietly tried to console me and convinced me to just sit on someone’s suitcase. I hope all the unnatural hair coloured pierced 20 somethings on that train that night ESPECIALLY never know peace for the rest of their fucking lives
You seriously can’t call yourself a leftist or a progressive or whatever if you can’t treat other people like actual human beings. I’ve had disheveled people who a lot of ppl would assume are homeless, be quicker to offer me a place to sit on a train than 20 somethings with unnatural hair color and “Be Gay do Crime” pins and stickers do that (esp when I injured my ankle coming back from work nobody except a mumbling elderly lady offered me their seat). They’re also not the ones who threaten to call cops on me when I’m taking foodstuffs from grocery stores! You can post about anarchy and being progressive and unhinged all you want but the fact that you would treat people who are physically disabled and in poverty this way makes you just as an awful person as anybody else
Elon Musk’s only real act of genius was casting himself into a fictional archetype (the Tom Swift / John Galt / Tony Stark-style billionaire inventor) that so many people want to believe in so badly that they will overlook the mounting evidence that he’s actually just an unstable idiot with enough money to hire better engineers than himself.
And in some ways, clever people *have* to believe in it. If it’s real, then they’re living in a meritocracy; the world is fundamentally just, Everyone Can Become Rich in America, and all social problems can be solved through visionary engineering and rugged individualism. If it’s a lie, on the other hand–if he only bought his way into his position using the proceeds of a stolen emerald mine worked by stolen labour–then how will *you* ever become a genius-billionaire-playboy philanthropist with *your* engineering degree? And worse, if the system is unjust enough to promote someone like that, and if electric cars and underground tunnels and colonising Mars aren’t going to solve the problems that capitalism creates–then don’t you have a moral obligation and practical obligation to change the system?
No, it doesn’t bear thinking about.
this is the most concise and clear explanation of elon musk’s popularity among my fellow engineers that I’ve found, and I agree pretty resoundingly.

“[Playing Taako] has made me understand a little bit better how taxing it can be when your sexuality is politicized, rather than just your own thing. When who you…and who you want to love…becomes polarizing, it’s very stressful. Being Taako became a lot more complicated once Taako was a canonically gay character, and I’m sure that is true ten-thousandfold for people for whom that’s their actual life.”
Holy shit this though.
Also this:
“I asked Justin how he felt about the positive attention he and his family have received for espousing inclusivity in their work. ‘If I’m being honest, it makes me uncomfortable. I always feel like I’m doing the bare minimum we should be doing as people. When people talk about kindness, it messes me up a little bit because I feel like I’m just treating people the way I was taught to treat people. It’s weird to me that that’s so much of a unicorn, that it’s worth noting.’”
I said it in the past, I’ll say it again now and forever. Clint raised them RIGHT.
2022 was the year of pondering orbs

Conservatives always say that liberal colleges brainwash their students but like. I went to college and came back like “maybe America is not perfect :)”
Meanwhile my sister went to Catholic college and came back like “only rich people deserve to be elected to government positions.”
Actually you know what I’m gonna use this as a teachable moment.
Obviously most people’s first reaction to that idea is “what the fuck is wrong with you?” That was my first reaction too. I actually called her mindset disgusting. But my second reaction, which I am prouder of, is leaving the group chat and messaging her privately and genuinely to say “hey, you have been speaking very weirdly lately, I am worried about you, what’s going on?”
She feels estranged from my family because she lives so far away. She is dealing with discomfort every time she comes home and has missed birthdays, family events, and important dates. She reacted by being constantly contrary, projecting, and taking out her discomfort on others.
She literally recognized this once I messaged her, and apologized.
If I had just kept arguing, kept calling her “disgusting,” she would have felt more estranged, more upset, more confused. Those things take people right down the alt-right pipeline.
We need to remember to check in on people we care about or have cared about. Ask them why they’re acting like this before they’re too far gone. Open a line of communication with the real world. Offer support. Genuinely. Don’t be more caught up in winning the argument or “owning” or “outing” the other person than you are in just making a human connection.
Did I “win”? Is my sister magically a liberal now? No. But we’re not going to be completely estranged and on opposite ends of the political spectrum in 20 years.
i want Daniel Craig to go down in history remembered as Benoit Blanc and not James Bond. He’s clearly having SO much more fun in the knives out movies. it’s what he deserves.
Even if you’re monogamous. This is not just for polyamorous people. Your partner is allowed to have fulfilling friendships outside of you. Your partner is allowed to turn to other people to help meet their needs. Demanding that they only come to you is unrealistic, toxic, possessive, and an unhealthy dynamic. The narrative that your partner should get everything from you - and you get everything from them - is a harmful product of bad rom coms. Don’t fall for it.
Absolutely even if you’re monogamous. Maybe especially then.
Your partner should have fulfilling relationships outside of the one they have with you. This isn’t just something you should tolerate, it’s something you should encourage, for your own emotional well-being as well as theirs. If your partner doesn’t want to have any relationships outside of the one they have with you, something is terribly wrong.
Queuing this for January too.
What’s going to make you happy right now? Is it some cake? Is it a nap? Is it calling your mom? Is it going on a drive and blasting music? Is it taking a bath? Is it reading a book?
Check in with yourself because you deserve that happiness, whatever it is.
I use this with my hospice patients a lot. Because “is there anything I can do to help?” rarely gets a response. But, “I’ll be here till 6:30 and would like to do one thing to make your room more comfortable before I head out” frequently does get an answer. Often something they deem “too small to bug anyone with” like closing the blinds so there’s no reflection on the tv, or repositioning their socks because the heels have wandered into the front and are uncomfortable, or they want ice cream before dinner today, or getting an extra blanket.
I also use this on myself. What’s one thing I could do to make my environment more comfortable right now? Does it cure my mental illness? Hell no! Does it make me feel more in control of my feelings and the world around me? You betcha!
I’m going to try to apply this to my current situation, since right now things feel very out of control. Thanks!
