All these little notices matter when you want to let someone know that you’re thinking ahead.
aka the moment Anne realized Gilbert was talking about them and not him and Ruby.
if anyone wants this blog let me know!
i basically don’t post on here anymore so i don’t really want it as my main acct but if someone wanted this URL or other i have, you can step in and own it then i’ll just step out
jealous!anne headcanon
Okay, so Anne totally isn’t fancying Gilbert Blythe. At all.
She is quite excited though when he comes back from his travels overseas. Finally her rival in class is back.
She’s definitely not happy because of Gilbert himself. No - - - boys are ridiculous!
He has become more handsome though. But that’s just objective.
But Gilbert has returned and is talking about his adventures in Europe to his friends right before class starts. Gilbert leaning against the desk behind him, and the boys surrounding him in admiring curiosity.
Anne is standing on the girl’s side, hearing Ruby and Diana talk about the heaps of jam they made yesterday for the picnic that will happen tomorrow in the park.
She’s not listening though.
She ‘s eavesdropping on Gilbert. Fantastical tales about romantic Europe is much more interesting than jam, thank you very much.
“How are the girls in Europe? I heard that in some parts they show their… underwear.”
Anne doesn’t know who said it, but the stupidity of the question made her believe it was Moody.
“Well, French girls are really pretty,” Gilbert says honestly.
Anne frowns at that on impulse
“And…,” Gilbert turns slightly red. Anne straightens her back and subtly turns her body a little to hear better without her friends noticing.
“And in Ireland, the girls can be uh- wild.” The boys immediately giggle excitedly and edge closer to Gil. This… this was not meant for all ears.
As it turns out, Anne has exellent ears.
“I was in a pub with someone i met from working and this… drunk girl kissed me!”
*Billy scoffing in the distance*
Anne couldn’t believe what she just heard. She didn’t know why she was so angry, or why she felt so venomous towards the unknown girl.
it was Envy
Anne figured that out soon enough
Impulsively, without warning her friends, she storms out of the school building, hands clenched into fists and head held high, huffing
What in the world was she doing? She’s overcome with such a peculair emotion; it was bizarre
Everyone is startled bij her sudden outburst. The boys dispersing at the stomping of Anne’s feet, and the startled squeals of the girls.
Gilbert meets Diana’s eyes, questioning
Diana shrugs, even more confused. Ruby distracts her.
Gilbert hasn’t really spoken to Anne since his return, simply thinking she didn’t want to seeing their history. but he does care about her.
How couldn’t he? it’s Anne.
So he goes after her
He finds her at the stream where bottles of milk were lined up neatly, sitting on a rock
Anne already figured out why she reacted the way she did (she may be a ginger but she’s not stupid) and is beyond embarrassed coming face to face with the boy she lik- uh, with Gilbert.
So what if she was jealous? That doesn’t mean anything!
Gilbert: “Are you okay?”
“I’m doing scrumptious.’ It came out clipped.
Gilbert tries to get through to her, and through Anne’s weird, short answers, he can deduct that she is jealous over what he said
Gilbert’s shook
“Anne… are you jealous an Irish girl kissed me?”
Anne, becoming flustered, “OF COURSE NOT I DONT CARE IF A GIRL KISSED THOSE STUPID LIPS ON YOUR CUTE FACE”
That wasn’t meant to come out.
They’re both shook. Anne sprints away before Gilbert can react. His heart is hammering loudly.
They rest of the schoolday they sneak glances at each other, Anne embarrassed, and Gilbert a bit smug. The tips of his ears are red though.
God, they both think, I’m an idiot for liking her/him.
And I hate you and I love you And I wish that you would stay.

STRANGER THINGS MONTH: [21/24] favorite sad scene
About everything. I don’t want you to get hurt at all. And I don’t want to lose you.
No food for you Gil
This whole scene is such a treat.
Gilbert is just so excited to rush over there. Noticeably, pay attention to where his eyes track in the second gif. When he’s picking up Ruby’s hat, he looks at her only briefly, then to the hat itself, but then over to Anne. He sneaks a peek at her right after he picks it up. Even though he rushed over under the pretense of helping Ruby up, Anne’s the focus in his mind (this can be read as both subconscious or conscious for him, depending on how deep you think his feelings are, or how aware of them you think Gilbert is). After his peek, his eyes don’t go to Ruby, but rather downwards. I read that as nervousness or apprehension (because of Anne’s presence, because of residual tension from their infamous last meeting, or maybe at the thought of being caught). It also could be seen as dejection, as Anne wasn’t looking back at him.
In the third gif we get a sense of Anne’s point of view. When she looks at Ruby, her eyes flick upwards and then over to the other girl. That means that she was looking downwards before, presumably at the hat. She’s noticing Gilbert’s heroism, but not seeing Gilbert himself. Anne then looks over at the dumbstruck Ruby, who speaks. She’s more focused on her friend than Gilbert, which is a pity, since he so desperately wants her attention.
In the next gif, Gilbert responds to Ruby, but he’s clearly distracted. While brushing off her gratitude, his eyes flick away to the girl on his other side. Then, as if the first look wasn’t enough, he fully turns toward Anne while addressing both girls. His expression is definitely brighter when speaking to her, and he even smiles a little bit at the end of his sentence. Anne, meanwhile, pointedly turns away (likely uncomfortable with the air between the three of them, and still upset after the slate incident).
Matthew’s approach provides a welcome distraction for her, and she begins a separate conversation in the next gif. This leaves Gilbert with a hopefully gazing Ruby, and a great deal of awkwardness. In the fifth gif you can see the transition. His expression is more uplifted when he looks at Anne, then he turns towards Matthew’s approach before turning back and looking down again. His expression clearly lowers and darkens in that movement. Look at how be presses his lips together tightly and tenses his jaw a bit (movement he made a fraction of earlier when he had to speak directly to Ruby). Importantly, he doesn’t look at poor oblivious Ruby. That’s not what he came down from the roof for after all.
Gilbert doesn’t really know what to do in the next gif, and there’s definitely some awkwardness as he’s left standing with the silent, adoring Ruby. He does that great move where he scratches the back of his head, and he mostly just looks lost. His eyes are looking at Ruby, but he looks very uncomfortable with her gaze. He’s far too clever to not know how she feels, but he’s trying his best to ignore it (something he does later in the pie delivery scene as well). There is a lot of other rapid eye movement going on, which only adds to the uncomfortable air. When Anne turns back, he notices her and immediately shifts his focus again. He’s noticeably less distracted when looking at the object of his interest.
It’s been touched on how excited he is to see Anne, and that really comes through in the next gif. The hopeful little raise of his eyebrows, the widening of his eyes, the general puppy dog look that crosses his face, and how bright he suddenly gets. It’s as if a light bulb just goes off in his head. To her credit, Anne doesn’t look too displeased to see him. She’s smiling just a little at the corners of her mouth when she turns. However, her eyes quickly jump between Gilbert and Ruby, and as if remembering her friend’s complete adoration, Anne quickly straightens. The girl doesn’t take long to decide that they need to go as soon as possible, and she walks right past Gilbert. Just as Ruby’s eyes never leave him, Gilbert’s eyes follow Anne as she walks away. His expression dims as she goes past, and then fully droops after he crosses her. His eyes lower again, his mouth flattens, and his eyebrows straighten as the rejection settles.
In the ending gif we see Anne grab Ruby and briskly walk away, not turning back. If she had, maybe she’s see what we see: Gilbert watching her go, standing perfectly still as she leaves.
Five reasons to watch Netflix's new Anne of Green Gables adaption, Anne With An "E"...
So I didn’t think I would need to make a post like this but negative reviews that don’t do the show justice (particularly that horrible vanity fair article) have apparently left me no choice…. Overall, Netflix’s Anne With An “E” or simply Anne The Series as it was called when it originally aired on the CBC in Canada, is wonderful.
here are five reasons why you should watch Anne With An “E” on Netflix:
1. Anne herself, Amybeth McNulty.
Amybeth completely captures Anne’s spirit. I swear it’s like someone shook the book and Amybeth fell out of it. She plays Anne with all the dreaminess, quirkiness, and charm that we know and love, as well as adding more depth to her than we’ve seen in previous adaptions. This brings me to my next point…
2. Anne is portrayed as an abuse and trauma survivor, as she should be!
Sure, we all love the lighthearted humor of Anne’s many misadventures in the original stories, and that’s still there in Anne With An “E”, but Anne was also the victim of a lot of mental and physical neglect and abuse in her past life before being adopted by the Cuthberts. In the show, she suffers from symptoms of PTSD and the effects of her past trauma are evident. The result of adding more details of Anne’s past do make the show darker at times, but the dark times only make the light times shine brighter, and we know there are more light times to come in Anne’s story!
3. Besides Amybeth, the rest of the cast is superb as well!
All around, the casting is spot on and the acting is spectacular! I don’t even know what else to say here, but everyone is just so wonderful!!!
And don’t think I’d forget… you can count on me to give a special shout-out to everyone’s favorite slate smack recipient, Gilbert Blythe.
Lucas Jade Zumann is PERFECT as Gilbert. He brings a slyness and playfulness to Gilbert that was there in the books but glossed over in other adaptions. And by the way, his chemistry with Amybeth McNulty is everything you could ever ask for and more…
(side note: I would also like to throw out a special mention to Aunt Josephine Barry, no spoilers but she’s more lovable than she’s ever been)
4. The show tackles timeless and contemporary themes of identity, feminism, bullying, and prejudice.
Anne’s life, realistically, doesn't become all sunshine and rainbows as soon as she comes to Avonlea. She struggles to fit in and faces bullying at school. The show also addresses issues of sexism and classism and does a great job at it while accurately (for the most part) staying within the time period it is portraying.
5. Everything about the show is high quality.
From the aforementioned acting to the cinematography, music, costume design, sets, editing, and the GORGEOUS opening title sequence, everything is the highest quality and you can tell how much thought, time, effort, and passion went into the making of this show.
Please give it a chance and check it out on Netflix, given the opportunity the show could grow and get even better if it is renewed for future seasons!
