You know when you accidentally hit your little brother harder than you meant to and try to convince him not to cry? Or not to tell Mom?
This is practically based on that; it's not the same, but this situation is canon in my head.
Red Hood strolled across the rooftops of Gotham, patrolling as calmly as possible, until in the distance, about five rooftops away, he spotted a familiar blue uniform lying on the ground. Intrigued, he approached.
It was exactly what it looked like: Nightwing lying on the ground, with a puncture wound in his abdomen and shoulder. Hood quickly get closer, crouching in front of Dick and pats his face a couple of times.
Red hood: hey! Nightwing! C'mon open your eyes
He can hear chatter on the microphone hidden inside Nightwing's ear. It reminds him that he doesn't get along with the bats, he still hasn't made his big reveal, and he doesn't want to think about what they'll think if they find him next to Dickhead in this state.
Red hood: HEY! Now i really need you to open your eyes
Dick made a small movement, shifting in an attempt to stay awake
Red hood: Yes! Good! Okay, now do you remember anything about what happened to make you end up like this? Because obviously it wasn't me, you know that, right, Nightwing?
His "eyes" (the mask) crumpled in confusion
Red hood: Because look, my gun's in its holster, I didn't hurt you. No, obviously not, it was someone else. Did you try calling the bats and explaining what happened? That SOMEONE attacked you? Someone who isn't Hood, the great avenger?
And so Jason spent about 15 minutes recapping everything for Dick, until he turned around and saw Batman no more than three rooftops away. That was all he needed to get out of there.
