I love your series of measuring dragons, it’s so fun to see the differences in scale! I was wondering, since you have Grima’s model in Echoes and in Awakening, can you measure the difference between them? I remember you measuring Awakening’s model awhile back, but I don’t remember if you measured their model in Echoes (Sorry if you did and I missed it!) and I’m curious about the difference. I've gotten a couple requests to measure baby Grima, but I keep forgetting to actually go and do that, so... today's the day!

How Big is The Creation?

For anyone new here: My dragon measuring method is to rip character models from multiple games - some who have canon heights - and do a little math to compare them to characters without canon heights.

As always, a more thorough explanation is under the cut.

TL;DR

According to my measurements, the Creation:

Is ~27.95 m (91' 9") long from snout to tail tip.

Is ~13.74 m (45' 1") long from snout to vent.

Has a ~14.52 m (47' 8") wingspan.

(Fogado included for scale)

They're just shy of the maximum length of a Blue Whale, though significantly less bulky than one. All in all, pretty damn big! Even with their head being as proportionally-small as it is, this puts their skull around 3 feet long; about the same size as the skulls of some of the largest living crocodiles on earth.

Compared to other Big Bad Fire Emblem Dragons, they're on the smaller side - but they're comparable to Duma. Hell, baby Grima's actually got 20 feet of length on Duma, though it's all in that long whippy tail.

The really incredible thing is looking at how they compare to the Grima we see in Awakening. The Creation, snout to tail, is less than 4% the length of Awakening Grima.

(And they get primo seating on their own head on the villain field trip.)

The Theory

We don't have canonical heights for any characters or things in Echoes, to my knowledge. But what we do have in Engage; it features a ton of characters who have canonical heights, as well as many who don't, and we can compare the former category to the latter to come up with reasonable heights for them. Once we have a height estimate for someone who appears in Echoes, we can use their Echoes model as a ruler by which to measure other things in the game.

My traditional rulers for measuring Engage characters are Fogado and Byleth. I used them to measure Celica in my post about measuring Duma, and I'm reusing those same numbers here. For completeness though, here are the screenshots of the models (which I ripped myself) and the measurements.

By my calculations, 1 ebu (engage blender unit) = 101.97 cm, and Celica is 161.31 cm (5' 3.5") tall.

Upon transferring that to Echoes space, we get a conversion rate of roughly 1 vbu (valentian blender unit) to 10.36 cm (4")

Measuring Baby Grima

Thankfully a very simple process, once you have the numbers above, since the developers love making their default pose them laying flat with their wings spread, which is perfect for taking measurements.

Of note: models in the 3DS fire emblems often have an overall scaling factor applied to them. I found and applied the Creation's scaling factor (1.5, for those curious) to their model prior to measuring it.

From there it's just a little multiplication and you arrive at the numbers from the TL;DR.

Would Ventus even want to know? Would Chirithy be able to justify telling Ventus about his fucked up past? When he has so many terrible memories already to contend with?

And yet... it's lonely, isn't it? Even if Chirithy has Ventus back, Ventus doesn't remember their friendship. It's effectively starting over on a new slate. Chirithy has no one to talk to about their past.

i'm such a sucker for this specific kind of plot.

there's no perfect path forward. this is ventus (his face, his name, his kindheartedness) and it isn't ventus (his personality, his life, his friends). there's no perfect option. there's only the option chirithy thinks is easiest to live with...

Sidenote, if you want some extra inspiration from outside of a KH context... you should go watch Star Trek: Voyager, season 3 episode 24, "Tuvix". It'll parse even if you aren't a star trek person, the show is pretty episodic; but I mention it because it's a compelling take on this EXACT conundrum of "someone we care about has been accidentally made into someone new - what do we do now?"

(apologies if this is a duplicate ask, the first attempt at sending it seemed to have glitched out. If it didn't, you can ignore this one.) Do you still have Grima's 3D model saved? I would love to use it on tabletop simulator and none of the model repositories for FEA that I can find have Grima's model.

I do still have it saved, yeah!

It's not in what I would consider a really complete state... There's some skeletal surgery and animation porting I wanted to do but never got around to.

But I can give you what I've got so far, which is: a blender file with their ripped mesh(es) and rigging, two of their idle flying animations, and my as of yet best attempt to recreate their materials.

Despite being an adult with a driver's license, I seem to move through life under the assumption I'm still the teenager who needed to ask permission to leave the house or do anything and who was for the most part too lonely to bother.

pro tip if you think you need javascript to make an expanding and contracting tree structure for a bunch of links or something, no you don't. ul > li > details > summary + ul > li nested as many times as you need. done. it's got really good keyboard and screen reader accessibility by default. and it takes like 1 minute to style nicely, list-style: none and add a bit of left padding to each details tag and you're basically good.

another pro tip if you think you need javascript to make a decent dropdown or accordion, no you don't. details > summary + whatever. style away and no need to worry about javascript or keyboard nav.
