I would like to inquire on what your favorite fandom is
The TF fandom.
Hands down.
I’ve been in a lot of fandoms over the years and none have captured my attention and devotion more than this one. I used to be in the Naruto fandom, for example, and it was a fun ride for the year or so I was in it but then it got real toxic really quickly. Star Wars was also a fandom I held near and dear to my heart but ever since Clone Wars was cancelled and the new episodes rolled out, it’s just been a huge divided mess.
But the TF fandom is unique in the sense that there is so much variety. We have 25+ TV series, comics and novels with so many different continuities that it’s easy for people to find their little niche and just enjoy it without ever straying. When there are reboots or cancellations or changes in canon, the TF fandom expresses themselves in a way that’s surprisingly mature (with a few deviations here and there but that’s inevitable) and instead of wallowing, they find ways to expand what canon failed to do. I mean, have you seen the fanfiction for TFA? I’m not much of a TFA fan myself but I found myself enjoying the fics I’ve dabbled in from that continuity because the fans take the time to plan and elaborate with all the loose ends and untapped possibilities the cancellation left TFA with.
Another thing that’s great about the TF fandom is THE SHIPPING. Like holy cow, the shipping in this fandom is golden. The representation that this fandom has introduced into popular media is legendary because it’s never been done before, at least not in such an elegant and classy manner. When Chromedome and Rewind were introduced as one of the first gay couples in the TF franchise, the higher ups gave the green light and the fans were grateful. They appreciated what CDRW’s relationship represented and their support allowed for our favorite characters to receive a development they were in desperate need of. Our favorite sentient transforming robots could love now and that made their stories and adventures so much more heartfelt, allowing us squishies to connect with them at a deeper emotional level. Not to mention that this fandom is so welcoming of different pairings; you can tiptoe to the forefront, drop a fic about freaking Mirage/Onslaught and instead of receiving hate and ridicule, you’ll more than likely receive a few curious glances and more than a couple screeching fanatics that love what you’ve given them. TF characters are versatile and this fandom understands and values that fact.
(You all probably laugh at that last bit but I’m serious. In the Naruto fandom, I once received death threats because I said I liked Naruto and Sakura together more than Naruto and Hinata.) In the TF fandom, I’ve had people tell me that they didn’t care much for a pairing I loved and so instead of hating each other, we found something we had in common and became acquaintances through that.
Another thing that’s great about the TF fandom ARE THE FUCKING ARTISTS. I would love nothing more than to list them all out of here but the ones that come to mind the fastest are ones like @herzspalter, @blitzy-blitzwing ,@dataglitch , @breakdownsbuttlights and @soursoppi. Some of these aren’t just in the TF fandom and even if they’ve pushed TF to the side to indulge in other fandoms, they still grace us with the occasional doodle or masterpiece that has our eyeballs nearly bursting from the beauty of their work. There are so so so many good artists in this fandom and even those who only do stick figure doodles tend to have these amazing ideas that make me so freaking happy.
DID I ALSO MENTION THE FANFICTION WRITERS? DID I? NO. WELL LEMME SAY IT. TF FANFICTION WRITERS.
A couple of my faves that everyone should go and read include (BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO): @fuzipenguin, @doomspoon888, @perictione, @pipermca, @choomchoom, @astolat, tragakes, spaceliquid, peacewish, etc.
This fandom has some of the best fucking writers, I kid you not. I once used to think that this robot fandom was limited because of the metal aspect of our favorite characters but then along come these brilliant minds and they basically kick the canon door down and grace us with ideas and AUs we had no idea were even a possibility. I mean, we got barbarian AUs, humanformers, no-war AUs, arranged marriage AU, royalty AU, sparklings, smut, etc…
And not to mention that most TF writers tend to be really good writers but they also grace us with so much variety. We got fluff and smut and angst and feels all around. We can have 400 word fluff to fucking 60+ chapter angst fics. We have the occasional haiku dedicated to a character or even podfics that grace us with dynamic recollections of these kickass plots and characterization. I got about a hundred tabs opened on my phone atm and every single one is a TF fic I have yet to finish or am currently waiting to see updated. If I ever win the lottery I will make it a personal mission to pay these writers’ mortgages, student loans, etc so that they can have the peace of mind to write more and grace this fandom with their genius.
But most importantly, this fandom’s driving force is every single enthusiast that calls themselves a TF fan. Y’all are resilient and stick together and manage to overcome differences to band together when it really counts. Remember when we were suffering through the whole Bayverse shenanigans? Well, thanks to our loyalty to the fandom, we got the Knightverse. Thanks to our support and love for our professional artists and writers, we got the IDW expanded universe. This fandom is comprised of so many amazing people who aren’t perfect but manage to contribute to this fandom in a variety of ways. Even if you don’t write or draw, if you like an artist’s post or comment on a writer’s fic…you’re playing a HUGE role in this fandom.
This probably got a bit out of hand…but I meant every word. TF fandom is fucking amazing and it’s a blast to be a part of it.
