Some Valve goodness. JJ ECC83 (12AX7)
Shiny new track from Alter Bridge, signed under Napalm Records!

Excellent interview with Sylvia Massy (Tool, Johnny Cash and System of a Down). Lots of crazy but interesting techniques.
(via https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DrDM6V08wcE) Amazing vocal performance and a great live sound!
ADAM A5X nearfield monitors at Barrelhouse Music Studios, Chicago.
Amazing setup!
Current work on a piece in the style of Hans Zimmer. Making use of Cubase over Logic Pro X today, system definitely needs and upgrade as it’s struggling with all these VSTs.
Max MSP Project
Aloha,
So thought I’d do a post about one of my current projects that is slowly growing and growing, getting more and more complex as I keep coming up with ideas!
The base of the project is centred around the Xbox 360 Kinect sensor talking to Max to control various types of synth, so far I have thrown together a granulator and a simple theremin. Since coming up with these initial ideas I’ve been adding more and more in the way of different modes for the patch to function in. This then made me think on the best way to switch modes easily, this lead me to OSC messages over WiFi. Using a mobile phone to switch the patch between it’s mode. This is relatively simple compared to the next idea.
Use of the Global Positioning System. I’ve been trying to use my mobile once again, connected to my laptop over bluetooth. So far I can track the position of my phone in Google Earth on my Macbook, however I haven’t gotten the relevant data into Max. Once I have, I will take the exact location of each of the five speakers in the hall at Canterbury Christchurch University and make Max move the sound around the room based on the position of the person holding the GPS-Enabled device. While being track, and having their movements effect the patch.
So that’s where I am at the moment, doing more and more research to try and make this idea come together!
Awesome track from CrossOver Metal Band, Kontrust. Two great singers and versatile band members!
Get out.
Great track by UK based Dorje! No 1 in the UK rock charts for a reason.
Really insightful stuff.

Hey
Back in mixing surround once again today, this time a shorter piece totalling 6:30. This time I've been composing a piece that is based on the theme of "Ruin and Reclamation". Which while is quite open ended it's been really fun coming up with ideas for it. I've settle on starting with lots of filtered and manipulated white noise that slowly fades into a completely synth constructed ambient environment.
I've tried using the concept of starting with nothingness, then slowing developing into a technological environment.
This piece has again been mixed in 5.1 surround as mentioned above, this time in the sound design studio, things were a damn sight easier with the addition of a new, very useful piece of kit. The SPL 2489 Surround Controller.
This box of tricks has made configuring levels FAR easier that the old Yamaha digital mixer which got a touch eccentric a times!
This new piece will soon be available on SoundCloud.

I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time… like tears in rain… Time to die.
