You know, if I really wanted to suppress a leftist uprising, I think I’d go about it by tapping into the puritanical view of suffering as a mark of strong moral character by spreading the idea that joy in victory, or even victory itself, taints the ideological purity of the leftist movement. I’d convince everyone that they have to prove they’re worthy of taking action against the State by demonstrably being in constant misery, and that anyone who isn’t constantly wringing their hands in agony who takes action against the State must be a secret oppressor out to get them. That way anyone who might do anything to upset the status quo will instead spend all their time either self-flagellating or attacking anyone who actually takes action as a “bad actor”.

Actually I as a mixed Acjachemen, I’ve learned some relevant parts of our history that I’d like to share. After the Mexican War of Independence, lots of indigenous peoples thought their subjugation might be over. But it wasn’t. The new Mexican government gave us some land to rebuild our villages, but we were never given legal title to the land, so the Mexican government often encroached on the land we were given and gave preferential treatment to rancheros.

What I’d like non-native leftists to take away from this is that nationalism, even when it claims to be anti-imperialist, will more likely than not begin to do the same things they colonizers they overthrew did. A nation-state will never lead to liberation for indigenous people, because the nation-state and all of the violence and ideological baggage that comes with it is what subjugated us in the first place.
