Happy stabbing, friends!
Sooooo surprise surprise, the 6 small mushrooms and a cheese stick that constituted the one and only meal I've had today were not enough and I am malnourished
It's the most wonderful time of the year
Happy pi day! Enjoy a delicious slice and you're welcome to take the knife with you when you're finished! 🔪
does anyone else think about this every day
LIKE. the way she words it. the way she stabs you, the way her hand is positioned. her expression. the desperation and determination. the way to get here, you have to stab yourself when spectre possesses you. the way this can end with Her stabbing You to take you back.
every princess is alone. lonely. separated, from others, from you, from herself. the long quiet is her only companion and she is pit against them. heavily discouraged from even Speaking to her. and if that Does happen, she Still tries so hard to reach out. she asks you politely. she is still angry, but she is willing to let the past be the past in favor of teamwork. companionship. someone to actually listen to her. and when it happens AGAIN, she STILL is willing to forgive you. for the same damn thing.
the tear between the shifting mound and the long quiet was traumatic for both of them. they may not remember, but they still feel that emptiness. they are, subconsciously or not, trying so hard to return to each other. but whatever they try it still never lasts. its tragic. she is ripped away from you, you are ripped away from her. and it was intentional!!! the tear is jagged and messy and hurtful On Purpose. not maliciously (i dont think) but still. the narrator Did Not Care how traumatic this would be for the entities he was creating.
its just. ugh. the loneliness and the desperation and the little moments of respite and the way the shifting mound so desperately tries to convince you to stay with her, be with her, leave with her. together. the way she says her heart has ached for this moment. they can never truly go back to what they once were. and it hurts them both. but they can still stay close to each other in different ways. and she tries so hard to convince you.
What once was one, then was two, and then was one again. kill me oh my GOD

Here have this
Lemon/lemoff erasure
i need to save “lemn’t”
(short) story time
so we’re reading shakespeare in english class rn, and at some point the class went off on a tangent about comedy
my teacher said something like “comedy is always at the expense of someone else, it just depends on how overt it is”
i, of course, disagreed, and spent like 5 minutes explaining the concept of modern surreal/absurd humor while trying not to die laughing when i described the “me when lemon” meme
you know
[transcript: a stock photo of a man holding a flashlight on a gradiented background of white to yellow. the flashlight’s beam is shining at a floating lemon, and the word “lemon” is written next to it in red text. a caption at the top says “when lemon”. end transcript]
this one
my teacher didn’t find it funny at all
this was saved to my computer and i found it when i searched lemon
now you all have to deal with it
this was saved to my

Shallan's armorspren are the cutest things ever just the chorus of "Shallan! Shallan!" and also not really knowing how armor is supposed to behave RIP to Shallan's coat and her bag strap
after being introduced to them in the audiobook I have kate reading’s voice going “Shallan! Shallan!” stuck in my head
Also think its really cute how adolins armorspen act similar in calling him "Sir!"
I tried drawing the inside of the cabin from slay the princess in cylindrical perspective. I did way too much hatching. I’ve learned my lesson, I won't do it again.
By the way, have I ever told you that I am good at perspective?
oh drat, the sequences of my cons
One of my favorite parts of The Stormlight Archive, especially The Way of Kings, is how Sanderson introduces this deeply alien landscape to us. He does so mostly by not introducing things specifically, only narrating as if the viewpoint character were looking at normal stuff that everyone sees all the time—which, to them, they are! Sanderson also often uses one-off names for things, like I think he uses the word "chull" before he actually describes one, and leaves you, the reader, to make your assumptions on what those words could mean. Often you assume you're in "rabbits are called 'glips'" territory, where normal things are called by a fantastical name just for flavor.
The reason why I like this is that you get some moments that are... the closest feeling I can compare it to is "dawning horror," when you realize your assumptions are wrong. Like I heard about "songlings," and I assumed, "Ah, yes, birds!" And then I heard about axehounds and I assumed, "Ah, dogs :)"
And then you actually encounter songlings in the text and. Oh. They're cricket-crab things. Uh.
And then Sanderson actually shows you an axehound and it's even worse, it's a crab-dog!
After that you're left sweating. What else is actually crab? Are the horses secretly crabs? They keep mentioning hogs, but we never see a hog described, are they actually crabs??
But the answer is no. They're just pigs. Brilliant.
Then you relize that the word "chicken" refers to all birds and you don't know how to feel
“Heart. Lungs. Liver. Nerves.”

I think one of the reasons I love The Phantom of the Opera so much (let’s specifically point this at Leroux and ALW), is that it fulfills the Gothic ideal of “pure innocent young woman meets and is influenced by dark, mysterious stranger,” but SHE IS NOT RUINED BY HIM. it’s so incredibly important to me, because Christine emerges intact. Christine is the strength and compassion and heart of the whole thing, dressed up like the fragile ingenue. the fear and manipulation she endures does not warp her heart or undermine her resolution. most of the time, those arcs consume the heroine in some way, but not Christine. she may shed some of her innocence, but she serves as the salvation of the story through her forgiveness and her sympathetic heart, and it’s so valuable that she exists.
(I hope you don’t mind me adding to this!)
YES I agree with the above!
ALSO: Unlike many other Gothic tales, it’s not your usual “purity vs corruption, good vs evil etc” trope (as in Dracula). Christine, in all her goodness, does contrast Erik’s darkness and insanity, but she doesn’t save the day by rejecting or overpowering him in the traditional sense, but by showing him kindness, by offering to stay with him. That’s the absolute beauty of this character, that she is able to feel compassion even for the one who least deserves it (because while I pity Erik, he was beyond forgiveness at the point tbh).
This could so easily have been a story in which Christine whimpers and cries, Erik is a boring Gothic-villain stereotype and Raoul saves the day, but what it is is just so much better.
God I love this book.
This is such a perfect addition (and more intellectually rooted in the text, which I thank you for, because I was honestly just bursting with love for her when I scribbled this out last night, but that overwhelmed my ability to really construct what I wanted to say, and you hit it exactly). It isn’t about defeat. It isn’t about destroying Erik (who, yes, is pitiable and tragic, but most assuredly beyond forgiveness), it’s about Christine having such a capacity for compassion and empathy that she draws back out the humanity in him, enough that he can let her go, even when she gives him what he desires by offering to stay. He expects her to cry, to protest and collapse, so that he may use it as an excuse to punish everyone, but instead, she astonishes him, she selflessly consents, in order to save everyone else from a terrible fate. It changes everything (Erik actually ADMITS that he goes from seeing her as dead to seeing her as living, as sincere and good). She treats him like a person (”I tore off my mask…and she did not run away!”), something he does not anticipate, and it allows him to extend some measure of grace back to her, not only through freeing she and Raoul, but in acknowledging her agency and her right to live. She remains resolute, and gentle, and walks in the light. Her kindness is the salvation of them all. “saved by the sublime devotion of Christine Daae.”
I’m not crying you are
