so many people would be happier if dating wasnt something u did with ppl u wanna have sex with but people u love being around and harbor friendships with
for the sake of everyone i will radicalize society’s perception of dating. and dating culture as a whole. dating is when u are best friends with someone
- u can still get romantic with people that arent ur best friend and hookups but the person u choose to “date” or “marry” realistically should be ur best friend and i guarantee everyone would be happier if we removed this pressure of dating and ur partner being a sub category entity thing that makes u miserable
source me. im aro. my girlfriend is aro. we started “dating” because we are best friends. we are best friends and i wanted to spend all my time with her so we labeled it dating. i feel like this makes sense and everyone should do this with their friends.
im putting dating in quotes because nothing rlly changed and labeling things is funny to me whateve rwhatever im the woker
also this is coming from a person who personally is seeing a lot of the like
jessica is best friends with veronica and veronica is her favorite person in the whole world and she’d die for her if asked. jessica also has boyfriend justin who shes dating and she likes him enough to keep him around. at the end of the day though the person she enjoys being around the MOST is veronica.
and ppl will say omg jessica needs to learn about lesbianism. when like sure that could be the case sometimes it is. but sometimes i think changing our perspective of dating in general would do so much good for people. jessica should date veronica and they should home own together and they should do all the domestic bullshit. and if jessica wants a justin around for whatever reason. thats fine. but part of recognizing the traditional family ideas forcibly placed on us as a society for decades is breaking down these concepts and going hey there might be a more efficient and reasonable way to view these things. dating can be a lot easier woaaahhhhhh #get aro #date ur friend #fuck labels #do what makes u happier
idk so many relationships i see especially hetero ones are very transactional and doesnt seem like they enjoy spending TOO much time together. which is kinda the whole deal around dating
Yes omg I have been looking for a way to articulate this!!!
I'm an alloromantic ace and I'm married to my husband. Our relationship is romantic, but has no sexual obligation. We've labeled ourselves "polyamorous" which works for us to explain how we feel about each other engaging in other romantic and/or sexual relationships- fine! Go for it! 👍😁 And when we got married people in my family who don't understand but were trying to be supportive were like "but why bother getting married if you're polyamorous?" Sometimes answering their own question "oh for like tax benefits and so you can see them in the hospital, right lol" and like
Ok what if it's because we're best friends??? What if I'm Getting Married because that's the structure we have in place to say to the whole world "I'm building my life with this person"? I want to spend every day with my husband! I love hanging out with him! I want to do all the domestic bullshit!
I do think dating and marriage for the relationship(s) where you want to spend most of your time with each other. For both practical and emotional reasons! I labeled mine as polyamory because that's the label that works for us but it can legitimately work like this for so many kinds of relationships.
Like, I married my romantic partner and best friend. Maybe A marries B because they're best friends who are dating, like @pixiecaps ' above. Maybe C and D are close friends and fuck buddies and want to live together. Maybe E and F are sisters who have separate friends and romantic/sexual partners from each other, but they want to spend their time really with their sister. Maybe G, H, and K want to live and raise kids together, but don't share romantic or sexual relationships with each other.
That should all be fine and awesome and normal!!! The "traditional family structure" of Mother, Father, Boy Kid, and Girl Kid really isn't the only one out there, and I've seen people deconstructing the hetero-normative, mono-normative, cis-normative, and idk "wanting children"-normative parts of this idea, but not the alloromantic and allosexual elements.
Everyone should feel safe to "date" and "marry" whoever they want.
