Hey Yall, I need help desperately
Hello Everyone. I really hate to do this and I must admit it is a blow to my confidence to have to do this but I really need help. I am desperate. I am stranded in Orlando. Last year my father was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimerās and his is an insulin dependent diabetic. He and my mother live in Lacey, WA. 3,000 miles away from me in Orlando, FL. He has started to decline drastically in the past couple of months and is losing recognition of my family and use of his limbs due to diabetes. Last month I decided to not resign my lease and to drive the 3 day journey to move in with them so I can be with my father and help care for him while my mother works. I quit my job 3 weeks ago to start preparing for my move. I scraped together the funds and put new brakes and tires on my car, and I sold all my furniture to pay for the gas and lodging it will take to get there. I am set to leave on Thursday the 17th in 5 days. This morning after visiting some old friends to say goodbye the transmission in my car started to slip unexpectedly. Driving home I noticed it slipping more and more and began making a growling sound. I got it home, made it halfway into my parking spot before it made an awful clanking sound and would no longer engage into drive nor rev past 2000RPMS. My very sweet neighbors helped me push it into the spot but now it sits as an expensive paperweight in my complex parking lot, 5 days before it was supposed to take me to WA. I got a quote and the transmission repairs are set at minimum $2,000 and it totals the vehicle. Now I am stranded in Orlando with no car and unfortunately because I am under 25, I can not find anyone willing to rent a vehicle to me, especially for such a long trip. I only have basic liability insurance so there is no help there either. I have been doing yard labor for a neighbor in exchange for money but I am a disabled individual with chronic kidney disease and several autoimmune disorders and I can only do so much. I am stranded and alone with no help or family around. My lease runs up so even if I wanted to stay I would have nowhere to live. Right now my only 2 options are to purchase a new vehicle (which would be a minimum $1,000 down payment) or to pay to fly my mother ($600 for a ticket) over to rent a car for me (an additional $300) and drive back together while other family watches my dad. I have already ran through my emergency funds and vet savings I had for my pets to pay my bills while I have been unemployed. If there is anyway you can donate a little bit to me to help me get to WA to be with my family it would be so appreciated. Attached is the link you can use to donate. Thank you so much and please PM me if you have any questions

Daytime reblog. This is a really great person and even if lots of people could give a single dollar it would add up very quickly. Please consider it if you have it in your budget, and if you cannot donate, please reblog.

Do Leoās act different in winter? I have two geckos and my older one has been hiding a lot more than usual and my younger one usually is out climbing on stuff. Is this normal. And all the temps are right, Iāve checked.
Sometimes during the winter, leopard geckos (and all reptiles alike) can slow down with the shortening days. If you have them near a window or source of natural light, itās kind of instinct that they can recognize the days are shorter and night are longer. That signals winter to them and they start to brumate. Brumation is like hibernation, but a little different. Your leopard geckos probably arenāt fully hibernating, but are slowing down with the season.
I need one omg
This . Is back?
What is a good morph to breed this lady with and what will the babies look like? What should I absolutely not breed her with?
@mister-hisser
I genuinely canāt tell if you were trying to be condescending towards me or not with that first response, but Iām well aware that I am not ready to be breeding leopard geckos. Iāve got about twenty tabs open on my browser on genetics and breeding and how to care for eggs and hatchlings, but Iām trying to get as much information on it as possible. I ask these questions on here in hopes of someone who is experienced in breeding will stumble upon my post and give me some tips and information. I do not plan on breeding her even within this year because I do not have necessary supplies to care for multiple geckos yet. I asked what some good morphs are to breed her with and which ones should be avoided, not whether or not I was prepared to handle breeding geckos. Thank you for your help, though.
Edit: Iām not trying to sound snippy, Iāve just got several hateful and condescending people messaging me and giving me a hard time on multiple platforms.
Hello, hobby / small-scale leopard gecko breeder here! You may not agree with the way @mister-hisser worded his comment, but I absolutely agree with the content or his replies. If youāre asking what you should breed a particular morph to without much context it sets off red flags for me and obviously other people in the hobby. Hereās some advice for you! Just as a side note Iām definitely not trying to be condescending or lecture you and I hope it doesnāt come off that way.
1. Itās very difficult for people to tell you what morph to breed to your female because it should be a personal decision about what YOU like and where you want to take that project. Breeding indescriminantly with no goal in mind is not the best way to go about it and youāll probably have a difficult time selling offspring if you donāt have a definitive goal. Iām on mobile right now so t would be difficult to link the post but I have a write up called āwhy you should NOT breed your pet reptileā that you may want to look over if you havenāt already. Back to the main point though- you should be the driving force behind what morphs you produce. Focus on morphs you really enjoy and work on producing the best quality examples of that morph. If /I/ had that female- I would probably breed her to a Tremper Blizzard male since sheās het Blizzard, but I also think she would pair well with a tremper displaying high lavender content. As I said though, breeding should be based on what you like and want to produce, not what other people tell you.
2. Just as a side note about Blizzard leopard geckos- they tend to have wild temperaments so thatās something to keep in mind if you want to pursue breeding them.
3. If you have any questions about breeding please donāt hesitate to reblog this post or send me a pm! My thoughts are kind of scattered today so this probably isnāt the most coherent post and I probably missed mentioning things I originally wanted to, but like I said just let me know! Good luck!
@bestreptilemom, It was not my intention to be condescending, but I can totally see why it came off that way. I had been dealing with various idiots on Facebook not taking advice all day and was just in a bit of a bad mood. Sorry! If I were you I just wouldāve added a little side note at the end or something stating that you realize you arenāt ready to breed yet, because Iām sure Iām not the only person who saw it and got concerned.Ā
@sunfish-exotics will definitely be able to give you more usable info than me because I myself am still learning in preparation for breeding one simple pairing come next breeding season. Iāve been doing research for quite a while, geckos tend to be a little more complex than say, a ball python or something because there are a lot more hets involved, 3 different strains of albino that are not compatible with each other, and lots of genetics dependent on line breeding.Ā
An important thing before you breed is to find either a shop or private buyers who would be interested in babies before you produce them, because a LOT of leopard geckos end up in rescue, even morphsāespecially morphs, actually, Iāve only ever had one normal surrendered to me out of 10+ rescue geckos. Iām not saying that having a plan in place already will stop that from happening but itāll make your life easier and youāll know you wonāt be stuck with the babies forever.
Also: I friggin love blizzards (yeah theyāre known for being turds but mine isnāt and people are always surprised lmao) they are such a pretty morph when mixed with albino.Ā
Iād really like to learn more about the genotypes relating to the appearance of specific morphs, including the unexpressed traits that would show up later down the line.
I was told by someone on Facebook that my tremper albino het blizzardās genotype is ttBb. I donāt quite understand the capital B, because they told me both tremper (albino) and blizzard were both recessive, and I was taught in biology that capital letters signify dominant traits. I know thereās more to it with incomplete and codominance and all that stuff, but Iām still learning. Iām mostly just interested in whatās behind all the breeding, not necessarily the breeding itself. I would like to be able to find the genotypes of my favorite morphs and do a bunch of Punnett squares and see what turns up!
Another person told me that the genotype for Diablo Blancos, another favorite of mine, is eettbb (all recessive).
And then another person told me something slightly different about the genotype of my lovely lady, which was that she is ttb. Why only one b? Why did one person add a capital, and one person give me only one b? Iām a little confused, and itās really hard to find the genotypes. Iāve tried forums and stuff but right now I mostly do research on my phone because my laptop is a piece of poop.
Also, why do diablo blanco genotypes have six letters, while mine only gets three or four depending on who youāre asking? I need some help. š
@sunfish-exotics, @mister-hisser
I also wanted to add that I edited the original post and hopefully it puts some minds at ease. Iām really bad at wording things and Iāve got a lot of social anxiety, so things come off a bit different than I mean sometimes, and I apologize for that. Picture of edit below.
Honestly Iām not that handy with Punnett squares (havenāt touched them since 7th grade science class and Iām like 21 now lol) so I just toss different genetic combos into various leopard gecko morph calculators and research individual genes/morphs to figure out the details on them and how they interact with each other. My pair right now is super simple. They are a male blazing blizzard (rainwater strain) and a female rainwater albino, so all of their babies will be rainwater albino 100% het blizzard. Eventually, I want to maybe add more genetics in there, I just havenāt figured out what.
Also, diablo blancoās probably get more letters because I assume more genetics go into making them? Maybe? I have never looked into their genetics because Iāve seen my blazing blizzard next to a couple at a show and he looks just as white and pretty as they do (blazing blizzards can have varying degrees of yellow, itās very close to nonexistant on him)Ā
Edit: I just googled it and yeah it looks like they have a shitton more genetics which would give them extra letters
I just made this for yāall
