Isn't writing romantic? You take pieces of yourself and others to Frankenstein into a character who will live longer than any of you. They will be immortalized because of your hand, your words, and your world, and even if readers 20 years from now don't understand, they will read the story and find themselves in the lines.

we need to bring back old school tumblr communication and im so serious. sending an ask to a mutual just to say hello. seeing three different asks in your inbox all asking how your dentist appointment went. seeing a post you think one of your mutuals would enjoy and tagging them/sending it to them in the dms. nowadays its just silently liking a post or (if youre feeling extreme) replying under posts. some people will be like “I wonder why fanfic writers don’t share their works anymore😔” and then this is them when a writer is kind enough to share something they write — as a hobby, for their own enjoyment — with them for free.
some people really don’t realize how privileged they are that they get fanfics for free. imagine having access to something for free because someone is kind enough to share it with you… and then being rude, entitled and an ungrateful pos to that person who was kind enough to share their creation with you for free
“almost 1 year is a lil too much for me” fuck off. fanfic writers don’t owe you anything. one of my favorite fics was updated after 13 years, and what I did is that I thanked the author for choosing to continue the work, I didn’t act like a spoiled toddler by asking why they didn’t update sooner. and even if a writer chooses to abandon their fic permanently with no explanation, that is their choice, their hobby, their decision. they don’t owe your entitled ass anything.
you people let tiktok rot your brains to the point you see everything as content farm and engagement. not a piece of art created by the artist’s love and passion. it’s dystopian.
I have found that fanfic writers and indie/freelance writers do not get treated well whatsoever, and are only seen as free labour. People forget to have decorum and that they can't order another chapter off a menu and be served it just because they asked, instead of simply commenting something respectful to the author like "ik this fic is a year old, but I love it a lot!"
I myself had been asked for >>advice<< for someone's WIP, so I gave them a list of book recommendations that would help them discover their writing style more and some tips to help them get through writing... only for them to ask me to provide them with free labour (writing their WIP for them with no payment). Do not Trojan horse your intentions by saying you're "looking for advice" to a writer you don't know and have never interacted with before, for them to do all the hard work for you for free
One thing I'm super proud of when it comes to my debut novel:

And then of course after the 200th time you open your notifs to see yet another one is spamming your account and suddenly trying to be your best friend or something qwq
A non-writer asked me "but where do you get your ideas" and i genuinely did not know how to explain that it's not a place. it's not a website. it's not a folder. it's that i was on the bus and a woman was holding a paper bag very carefully and something about the way she held it made me need to know what was inside and then i needed to know why she was sad about it and then there was a whole person and then there was a whole story and the bus had already stopped and i missed my stop. that's where.
Whenever I type out any kind of character analysis I wallow in shame afterwards LMAO. Like haha little idiot you don't know how people work this is clearly wrong

Something nobody prepares you for is that the better you get at writing the harder it becomes. beginners write freely because they don't know enough to know what's wrong. then you learn. and suddenly you can see every single flaw in real time as you're making it and you have to write anyway while your own brain is in the corner going "that's a weak verb. that transition is lazy. you've used that word three times." getting good at this is mostly just getting better at ignoring yourself.
kind of off topic but since I tend to base the protagonists off of a few of my personality traits, (for my more grounded projects, anyway) I have an irrational fear of them being seen as "cringey, author self-inserts" that prevent me from writing. However, that fear prevents me from writing in the first place, so I just have to ignore myself and keep on going
Writers have two modes and they are "i haven't written in three weeks and i am rotting from the inside and everything feels wrong and i don't know who i am anymore" and "i wrote for four hours straight and forgot to eat and it's dark outside and when did that happen and i feel like a god" and there is nothing in between. no chill. no medium setting. just famine or feast and a very confused nervous system.
