One of the things thatās so ridiculous about citing someone getting bullied in high school, or being downwardly economically mobile, as a causal explanation for them becoming a school shooter or a nazi or whatever is that those things are extremely common. Most people were bullied in school at some point in their lives. Most people are downwardly mobile as young adults. Most people have dysfunctional and/or limited social circles. Like itās just such a weak claim. It purportedly attempts to use broader social trends to explain anti-social behaviour, but the net is cast so wide as to be meaningless, so it ends up (maybe ironically) becoming a very individualistic explanation - becoming a school shooter is because this guy, specifically, was poor. Becoming a nazi is because this guy, specifically, had a dad who didnāt care about him. It essentially lets this behaviour off the hook because it positions those social/economic circumstances as unique to Nazis and school shooters. It engages in the idea that poverty, poor education, and family dysfunction (which is only something that happens in poor households) is what produces bigotry - the unwashed ignorant masses are where bad ideas come from
i think the key is that they use these particular explanations mostly for young white men, i.e. those whom the system is designed to privilege, protect, and empower. the deep & unspoken implication, in my view, is that whereas being bullied / socially outcast or being poor are the rightful positions of other kinds of people, it was insulting to the dignity of this young white man's privileged identity to be treated the same. and it is normal for men to respond to certain insults to their dignity with rage and violence. it mirrors the way that people talk about violence committed by adult men -- someone hurt or insulted his family, or his sexuality, or his team, or any of the myriad things men are expected to protect with righteous and exceptional violence, except it's keyed to the world of the young man who merely expects to inherit all these things rather than the man who protects them from atop his barricades.

the absolute BEST rival dynamic is where one of them is like āyou are my equal unlike any other, you respect me and my power even if you disagree with my methods, i will only die by your hand and you by mine, perhaps i want your attention perhaps i love you, together we challenge each other to unseen heights, we are each otherās destiny, we are intrinsically linked,ā and the other person is genuinely like āplease dieā

Hello! I made a dress from scratch for the Renaissance Faire. It took me six months to make the chemise, hoop skirt, under skirt, over skirts, French knot embroidered bodice, crown and jewelry. I am very excited to wear it this year despite how serious I look in the photos!

i feel like people aren't getting how dire ai is. we are running out of drinkable water. our brains aren't engaging as much with what we see and hear. people near data centers don't get clean water and experience electricity blackouts. it's being used to make pornography of underaged people and women. it often just lies. it affirms everything. it lies. it has made people kill themselves. it lies for gods sake. and people act as if im dramatic for being staunchly against it. 'now i KNOOW you hate ai and whatever, but look at this cute video' this isn't me being a new age puritan about internet videos, this is about the fucking earth and our future living on this planet. people are suffering now, people will suffer more, and my friends and parents will roll their eyes and think im annoying for despising ai so explicitly. we need to wake up because we cannot live like this

This is a comment someone appended to a photo of two men apparently having sex in a very fancy room, but itās also kind of an amazing two-line poem? āHis Wife has filled his house with chintzā is a really elegant and beautiful counterbalancing of h, f, and s sounds, and āchintzā is a perfect word choice hereāsonically pleasing and good at evoking nouveau riche tackiness. And then āto keep it real I fuck him on the floorā collapses that whole mood with short percussive soundsābut itās still a perfect iambic pentameter line, robust and a lovely obscene contrast with the chintz in the first line. Well done, tumblr user jjbang8
I hate that my aesthetic sense agrees with this but everything you just said was correct
I went back to dig up this post because I was thinking about poetry.
This is one of those non-poem things that are among my favorite poems.
As the OP stated, the use of alliterative consonants is aesthetically just great, especially the placement of the strongest use at the end: āfuck him on the floor.ā The use of āchintzā is indeed great word choice.
Because Iām insane, decided to scan the poem:
Not only is the second sentence, indeed, perfect iambic pentameter, the entire poem is perfectly metered, though the first sentence has four iambs rather than five.
There are further things I love about this poem, though: I like the casual connotations of ākeep it realā juxtaposed with āchintz.ā It causes me to interpret the āchintzā more strongly as meaning something fake, a facade. There is also of course the coarseness of āfuck,ā which is a contrast with āchintzā but a different kind of contrast, gutsy and carnal where āchintzā is flimsy and inanimate.
And then there is the storytelling: there is SO MUCH storytelling in just these two lines. To break it down: The speaker is having sex with a married man, in the house he shares with his wife, which is āfilled with chintzāāsomething that here connotes fakeness, in contrast with ākeep it real.ā
The illicit encounter in the poem takes place within a house filled with facade, the flimsy construction of the wifeās marriage and domestic sphere, but the encounter itself is a taste of something āreal.ā Thatās a story, and itās just two lines.
This is EIGHTEEN SYLLABLES, yāall. The amount of meaning condensed into these eighteen syllables is stunning, and it is so elegantly done.
From a technical standpoint (and ive taken 300- and 400-level poetry classes so I can say this) this is damn near flawless as a poem.
Kept thinking about this ever since I saw it and had to do something
there's art now
Ah dang to go further; the floor is framed as a refuge. As if there is literally no other space in this house that hasn't been populated by his wife with flimsy inanimate fakery. There is no space for this man in this house save for the floor. There is no space for him on the sofa, oon the counter tops, and most notably, no space for him in the marital bed.
Iād also like to point out the use of the word āhas.ā The wife has filled the house with chintz. She isnāt filling the house with chintz. She doesnāt fill the house with chintz. She has filled the house with chintz. Use of the past-tense makes the wife a subtly removed element in the story, someone whose presence we see in the environment, but who is blissfully distant during the actors throes of passion. There is an element of physical as well as emotional separation from the wife that is catalyzed by being fucked on the floor. Use of the past tense is an end to the wife presence in the actors life, a carnal catharsis amid cold fragility and emotional distance.
