42% of African school children will drop out of school before finishing their education
since 1990, global emissions of CO2 have increased 46%
On that note, the U.S produces 25% of the worlds CO2, yet we only make up 4% of the world population
by 2030 (the next fifteen years) it’s expected that over 54 million people could be affected by river flooding.
we currently don’t have the right production rate of food to have food security for the expected 9 billion people on this planet in 35 years. (it needs to increase by 60% in those 35 years)
1/3 of the 400 billion metric tonnes of food is lost or wasted each year
over 3 million children die from unnecessary malnutrition each year
by 2100, with the rate things are currently progressing, more than half of the world’s marine species will be on the brink of extinction
over 30% of marine habitats have been destroyed
currently only 49% of children will attend secondary school
by 2025, over 1.8 billion people will be living in countries or regions with absolute water scarcity
yeah, these all suck. but there may be a solution to these (and many more) problems.
The Global Goals are 17 goals agreed on by the United Nations that were created to address the issues above and others such as gender inequality and climate change.
With partners such as Global Citizen and the Malala Fund, Global Goals aims to educate everyone on the planet about the goals. Every. Last. Person.
“World Leaders have committed to 17 Global Goals to achieve 3 extraordinary things in the next 15 years. End extreme poverty. Fight inequality & injustice. Fix climate change. The Global Goals for sustainable development could get these things done. In all countries. For all people.”
the goals won’t work unless you know what the goals are. so what can you do? spread the word about Global Goals.
