Pain Tolerance (Part 1)
Blades wasn't as sensitive to pain as everyone thought. He knew how to roll with the punches, but this... new type of pain was different.
Or: Blades develops chronic pain because the writers knew a helicopter could solve half the show's problems and deiced to strike him like Achilles each time.
Yāknow, one of my favorite things about Tech is how, despite being a sleeker and arguably more composed version of the Coyote, heās still scruffy. Like, from his fang always sticking out to KMRās performance he strikes this perfect balance of academic and tinsmith. And I specially love how your design pushes that with the floppy ear and bandage. The outfits!!! Ahhh, heās elegant turtleneck and coat with the ripped jeans? Perfection!!! The button up shirt and tie with the messy files and wrapped up hand? Amazing! And his little mechanic suit? I died/pos. I didnāt know such a solid design could be improved šāØ
AWW GOSH thank you!!! One can tell A LOT about a person based on how they dress, like a visual extension of their character. - Everything from their economic situation to what emotional state they are in can be revealed in someone's wardrobe.
Tech is overworked, messy but also weirdly organized in his own way. Thereās coffee mugs, paperwork, wrenches and wires scattered all around his workspace and everything is covered in mechanical oil. Tech is usually just seen wearing either his overalls as he constantly works on machinery for the Galactic Protectorate or tinkers with his own inventions. To him it's always function over form, and zero fashion-sense. Whenever heās off, Tech goes for some nice baggy jeans that fits all his trinkets and a worn sweater/t-shirt. Since heās so accident prone, everything gets torn or burnt or spilled on anyway, hence the bandages.
Tech only dresses up whenever heās to present something for the board at the GP, and even then he has to scramble together an outfit last minute and probably borrow a tie to look remotely presentable.

PSA:
Acetaminophen/paracetamol has a hard stop upper dose limit, above which it becomes extremely toxic.
That limit is 4g (8 āextra strengthā (500mg) tablets) in 24 hours (about 2 tablets every 6 hours).
A single dose of 22 extra strength tablets can kill you.
Taking 12 or more tablets per day for more than a week can also kill you (this is about 3 tablets every 6 hours).
Symptoms of overdose take up to 24 hours to manifest, and are fairly difficult to distinguish from other problems. They include abdominal pain (especially right upper quadrant), nausea, malaise, and confusion.
The antidote (n-acetylcystine) must be given within 8hours of ingestion in order to be useful.
After 10 hours the only thing that will work is a liver transplant.
You might think āwhy would I ever accidentally take so much?ā
Well, acetaminophen is in almost everything in the cold/flu/pain aisle. Migraine combos like Excedrin, cold and flu combos like NyQuil, basically anything that says ānon-aspirin pain reliefā, and anything thatās branded as a fever reducer. Itās all probably acetaminophen/paracetamol.
So the goal of this post is to get you to read the labels on your medications. Because taking taking Tylenol and NyQuil together for a week (like you might if you had the flu) could kill you.
Please don't forget this shit, after it happened to a family member, he died 8 years later because of the continuing health complications even though he survived the initial overdose
I didn't know this for years, and I took so many pills, sometimes 4 at one go, every four hours, like 16 a day, because of endometriosis and migraines. It took a migraine specialist to explain rebound headaches and overdoses when I was in my 40s. Then I went cold turkey on all OTC drugs to get off the cycle. Please, please, if a couple tylenol aren't working for you, talk to your doctor or find one who will listen to you if you can.
Further to the PSA: Drinking alcohol will lower the dose limit for paracetamol. Don't take paracetamol for a hangover.
Basically what's going on is, your liver has multiple different processes it can use to deal with different substances, but it uses the same one for both alcohol and paracetamol. That process is extremely safe and produces completely non-toxic by-products. There is a strict limit how much of it your liver can do at one time. If it's already at maximum, any more paracetamol coming in will be shunted instead to a different process which produces seriously toxic by-products and will quickly destroy your liver.
By the way, the converse also applies: taking paracetamol will reduce your tolerance for alcohol. I didn't know this in my early 20s and would sometimes take paracetamol for sinus headaches on a Friday afternoon, then go to a pub in the evening and not understand why I was getting drunk so fast on two beers.

I've seen this before, but it's been years and it just came across my Twitter in its dying days. The words are from a favorite author of mine, Maggie Stiefvater, and they are the words I most need to hear when it comes to dealing with chronic pain and illness. I didn't need this the first time I saw it, six years ago. I need it now. Maybe you do, too.
I work with kids and I've had two occasions where a little boy straight up won't listen to anything I say because I'm a woman. and like yeah he's gonna continue to be raised by terrible role models and probably grow up to be a sexist douchebag but I have three hours a week to get through to him and so far I'm crushing it. I got six year old boys who previously didn't listen to a word I said telling their shitty dads to not speak to me like that. yeah that's right I'm the teacher making your kid woke. go fuck yourself about it.
you left your kid with me and I taught him that women are people. and also to question authority. and also how to kick someone in the nuts. have fun with that.
Do you have advice for people wishing to also learn the skill of getting through to little boys who've been taught not to listen to women?
honestly there's nothing that's going to work for every kid but I've found just turning kid behavior back on them usually works pretty well. like if they say something about "girls are like this and boys are like that" be like why. why. why. why. exactly the way little kids do. they'll try to come up with an answer but usually after like five rounds of me asking why they'll eventually be like huh. idk.
in my case it definitely helps that I teach kids martial arts classes at a boxing gym with a lot of women. so little boys just factually cannot tell me that girls can't fight or aren't strong or something, because they're constantly surrounded by proof that isn't true. also rules are very different in a boxing gym so if a kid is being a little shit I'm allowed to pick them up and put them in upside down air jail. you probably can't do this in most contexts.
I think the biggest thing is that they need to see men and other boys listening to women. they're following the example that's been set for that. at home maybe their dad never listens to their mom, but when they show up at my class all the other boys are following my instructions. peer pressure is real and you can use it to your advantage. I make a point to tell the biggest buffest manliest dudes what to do in front of the little boys. now this works because those dudes already listen to me, but getting any dudes to follow your instructions could probably work.
the best punishment is the natural consequences of your behavior. if a kid isn't going to listen to me, he doesn't get to do class. this works because class is fun and he wants to kick stuff and hit people with noodles. kids want to have fun more than they want to misbehave. as long as listening to me is more fun than misbehaving, they'll listen.
because these boys are learning this behavior from their dads, the dads also tend to be the kind of tough strict emotionally distant parents that would yell at "girly" behavior or crying. even when I'm strict with the kids, I never yell, I obviously never hurt them, and I always listen. they want to yap at me about pokemon or youtubers. it can be tough when they're really sexist at the beginning but eventually they will show you something that their dad wouldn't approve of, whether they want a pink noodle or quietly mention they like a girly show. this is the part where you simultaneously act like it's no big deal while encouraging it. you need show it's completely normal for a boy to want or like that. if you can, bring up another boy or man they know who likes the same thing. I always show off my nails to the kids and bring over the guy who also paints his nails. you'll probably get "boys can do that?" comments and I usually just go "well he's a boy and he did it, so unless his hand falls off right now I think it's okay"
for me, it's always eventually gotten to a point where the boys realize that everyone else thinks it's normal to listen to women, and that if they want to have fun they need to listen too. they also realize that these people and these women are nicer and listen to them more than their dad does. they notice how all these nice people that make them happy talk to women very differently than their dad does. when those boys yelled at their dads for being rude to me, I made a point to thank them and say that they were right and their dads were rude.
encouraging the behavior you want to see is even more important than punishing the behavior you don't want to see. you can't tell kids what not to do without giving them something to replace the behavior with.
