i am all for being critical of academia as an institution but many scholars are actually doing incredibly important work and their expertise is extremely valuable and not like anything you will find from some rando on tumblr dot com. you guys.

as a “”“junior scholar””” who is also a rando on tumblr dot com i think a big part of this is understanding any off the cuff post an academic makes on a social media platform is not going to be the same as reading their actual scholarship. they’re fundamentally different media with different levels of rigor and peer review and citation requirements etc. please please please read books and articles please!!!!!!!!!

I think the best tumblr interaction I've ever had was when i replied to some post and referred to bigots with cute cartoon icons as "picrew racists" and this other person materialized out of NOWHERE to call me ableist and queerphobic because most people who use picrew are neurodivergent and nonbinary people. I was like, "i don't think that's true and also I am neurodivergent nonbinary people, what the fuck are you talking about", and they said VER BATIM "classic DARVO tactic" and were like why don't you just call me a slur or threaten me with violence since you're such an abuser or whatever, and I was like "I WAS JUST SAYING ITS FUNNY WHEN A BAD PERSON HAS A CUTE CARTOON ICON" and they immediately DM'd me their ENTIRE LEGAL STREET ADDRESS so I could doxx them or hurt them or something since I "clearly wanted to." Like that fast, like 2-3 replies. Pure unadulterated tumblr condensed into such a succinct exchange. 🤌 can't get that anywhere else baby.

I want to state, for the record, that “all the avengers would live together in the tower” wasn’t collective headcanon, it was canon. The very last scene of Avengers (2012), the one they left us on, is Tony redesigning the tower, designing a living area for each Avenger. That was, canonically, what was supposed to happen, in canon, and they just changed their minds and decided to… not. For whatever goldarn reason.

Also it was canon for literal decades in the comics. First it was Avengers Mansion which was Tony’s Manhattan family home and then Avengers Tower when Tony built it. At one point Avengers Mansion couldn’t get their trash carried away because in order to operate in the US they had to be an embassy and NYC trash carriers don’t service embassies.

Imagine Grace defined his name as the elegance definition of grace and Rocky spends years thinking how fucking ironic this clumsy leaky space blobs name is.

Until Grace slips out a sentence along the lines of "could you give me a little grace here" and Rocky immediately points out he used a word wrong so Grace has to explain that yeah, grace means elegance but it can also mean mercy sometimes too.

And Rocky has to suddenly reconcile that the clumsy leaky blob that saved his life twice, that almost certainly doomed himself to come back for him, name is Mercy.
