There was a fic where Jason was Damian's bio parent and they realised it only because Damian revealed he was younger than he told he was when he was injured, and Jason went to weird lengths (such as stealing a tooth Damian lost and basically DIYing a paternity test) and for the LIFE OF ME I CANT FIND IT??? WHERE DID IT GO THE FUCKEN ABYSS???

Okay but a thought struck me the other day, and maybe I’ll write it, but considering writing was my goal this weekend and I instead ended up at urgent care - sharing as a hc in case I never do 😂

The birds and the superkids are all still besties/dating (whatever your preference, doesn’t matter here) and yada yada happens and Damian and Kon just…get into a giant argument.

So they’re screaming at each other or whatever, and Kon just brings up the fact of “If you forced Jon to pick between us, he’d pick me.”

And it stings but Damian’s like ‘no shit, you’re his brother.’

But then to REALLY rub salt in the wound, Kon says, “And if you forced Tim to, he’d pick me too.”

And that one hits like a ton of bricks ‘cause - yeah. Tim probably would.

And it’s just the thing to say to trigger all of Damian’s insecurities and self loathing and - yeah, of course everyone would abandon him first chance they get. They’d be stupid not to! So why should any of them - Damian included - waste their energy!

So of course in his hurt he retreats from everyone, and it takes most people way too long to notice (except Jon obviously) but eventually Kon is asked if he knew anything and he guiltily mentions their argument and the terrible things he said.

And oh BOY are Jon and Tim fuckin’ FURIOUS. Jon definitely punches him. Tim…maybe.

For extra angst, I'd imagine this as aged-up, 17 yo Jon who has already drifted away from Damian considerably and also him being on bad terms with Tim to really crush any possibility that they might choose him.

I'm trying to find a ao3 fic that was basically centered around Tim and Damian but it was an AU where they were the same age? Or similar enough?? And instead of Tim, Damian was Red Robin while Tim kept his title as Robin. It was mostly about their relationship and Bruce and Damian's relationship pls if someone remembers the name pls tell me (╥_╥)

People saying 'Damian has youngest privilege, he just gets away with everything' while I'm frothing at the mouth knowing it's actually the opposite and he gets the least leeway because Bruce keeps expecting the worst of him even after everything he has done to change, to please his father (to make him proud) it's still not enough (he's not enough)

Let’s get this straight. You have every right to like or not like a character, it’s your opinion, maybe I can change it, maybe I can’t.

Damian hate in this fandom is probably one of the most prominent things there is, I’m not saying it takes the cake, but it’s certainly up there.

The people who hate Damian, are mainly Tim stans.

I can’t speak for them due to me not being one or a fan of the character, but I will say that the reason is probably very much so due to Damian trying to kill Tim, such as their first meeting and pushing him off the dinosaur.

What these stans don’t look at, is why. Tim threatened Damian’s position in the family; Damian needs stability (something that has even been said in canon), Tim was a rupture in that. Damian grew up with the mentality to be kill or get killed, and killing was a hierarchy of some kind in the League.

Do you see where I’m going with this?

Damian grew up in the League, with very fucked up rules, and no truly stable and healthy presences in his life. He sees himself as a weapon, expendable, Damian needs to be of use otherwise there is no value in him in his eyes, ‘he bleeds a need to be accepted’.

This isn’t a headcanon. This is his character, and all of these things have either been said or proven indirectly in canon. Damian is extremely traumatized, but another reason as to why people hate him, is because of this.

‘Kimchi wtf do you mean?’

Damian isn’t a typical trauma victim. He isn’t quiet or timid in his actions and how he reacts with his trauma, instead he is loud, brash, and acts out violently in a desperate plea to be seen.

People react differently to trauma, which is something that is so prominent in Damian’s character, but he doesn’t react in the way that people stereotype reaction to trauma as.

People, do not like this.

They take it as him being a spoiled brat, and ‘feral’ with no manners and who throws tantrums, which brings me to my next reason.

This entire ‘spoiled and feral rich kid with no trauma’ trope that people put onto Damian, is so deeply rooted in racism it’s not even funny. In the panels where he is depicted with a darker skin colour, rather then whitewashing him into Bruce, are always used as examples of this trope and why he’s a horrible character, but coincidentally, when he has lighter skin tones, he’s turned into a Tim copy, removing all of his personality, into a more ‘relatable’ character, and is used as examples of why people (who were never fans of him to begin with) people ‘love him’.

Damian is different, in so many different ways, and people hate him for such shitty things such as him reacting in trauma, ‘culture shock’ (in a way), or even just being himself, and it’s fucking annoying that people make these misconceptions about his character so easily.

as a kid i had one of those “there’s a monster under my bed” moments except real.

every night i would cry about a ghost or something trying to scare me by knocking on my bedroom windows and walls. like, really loudly, every hour or so, every night. only at night. so my dad was like “heh okay kiddo let’s check it out :) ah see? there’s nothing here :)” and left.

until years later he admitted to me that he did in fact hear the unexplainable knocking when he slept in that room one night, and it kept him awake with fear. and suddenly felt awful for not believing little kid me.

While yes, I definitely understand why Tim doesn't like him, it always gives me the ick how dehumanising he can be towards Damian. Especially considering his relationship with Kon.

I am once again reminded of how much I hate the family therapist Cass headcannon. I love Cass, I love her to bits, and a very important part of her story is that she was raised as a weapon. Not taught emotions and empathy and, most importantly, communication. She's kind and compassionate, but she's awkward about it and that's fine. That's alright. That's what makes her, her. She doesn't need to be an all-knowing Master Oogway kinda character, and it bothers me so much when people try to bend and twist her character for plot convenience? A perfectly good fanfiction, ruined because of this one little thing.
