Theories on the Yautja part 3: Clan Cultures and differences
In which I elaborate on the different types of clans I believe exist on both Yautja Prime and Colony planets.
First off, the types of clans and how the environment affects their colorations and body type.
The Classic
The jungle clans. These are your stereotypical Yautja, large bodied, thick dreadlocks, scale shades of greens, browns, maybe some blues and teals scattered in there. These Yautja are masters at blending into their environment even without their cloaks. Their diet may consist of meat from their hunts, fruits, and occasional vegetables like roots and tubers.
The Desert Dwellers
These are the Yautja like we see in Dek's Clan. Darker scale coloration, more brown, orange, yellow (think more melanin to protect them from harsh radiation and sun exposure), thinner dreadlocks to reduce surface area, leading to less loss of moisture. These clans may be more nomadic, following prey in their search for water. They may have multiple small settlements that they travel between, with the elders and the young remaining at certain settlements where food and water are more plentiful. Their diet may consist of more insects, of course meat, but they may also consume things like the rare cactus-like fruit. These Yautja are likely leaner than their jungle counterparts.
The Coastal Clans
These Yautja are more colorful than your standard. Blues, teals, bright colors that might help them blend into the reefs of the ocean coasts they call home. They may be larger, with bodies built to insulate against cold, deep water. These Yautja are masters of the ocean, and may have traditional watercraft they use for fishing and hunting. They may have special adaptations that allow them to hold their breath under water for longer. Their diets may consist more of fish they catch, or shellfish they find in the rocks of the coast.
The Grasslands
These clans settle along rivers and lakes, and may be descendants of the Desert clans. They are lean, long legged, built for speedy prey. Their coloration may take inspiration from snakes- browns, greys, oranges, the occasional flash of color. Thin dreadlocks to reduce drag at high speeds. Their diet consists of meat, the occasional edible root, and the occasional fruit they find growing along the rivers.
The Icy Tundra
These Yautja are rare. Not because they are weak, but because of how intense the cold is at the poles of the planet. The clans are small and far between. They may have the most varied skin tones as well- dark skin with lighter markings to absorb heat, but still blend into the rocks and snow of their home. They are large Yautja, relying on seasonal hunting to preserve food. They may eat more preserved foods, smoked meats and fish, dried fruits, long lasting roots. They rely on hunting thick-furred creatures to stay warm. They may have a more centralized clan building, where homes are closer together to maintain warmth. These Yautja do not fare well outside of their homes, occasionally overheating. They rely on the classic fishnet technology to stay warm too, but they may have a modified version that allows them to stay cool as well.
It is possible that the Yautja are as varied as human cultures. Their planet is likely as diverse as ours, even if we have not seen much of their home. Different Climates lead to different adaptations and technology.
