One of my closest friends is someone who is 40 years older than me, we met at our knitting circle and really hit it off and LET ME SAY!!!

We NEED to listen to our elders and not judge them before they say their whole piece. Yesterday I was telling her I went to a literary festival to see Margaret Atwood. She was really excited (because Margaret Atwood is GREAT) and we got to talking about the interviewer.

I told her I thought the interviewer was probably a feminist who is very close to people who are staunch misogynists, because of her posture in regards to men

She was shocked that a supposed feminist would be friends with someone like that and she said she agreed with neither feminists nor misogynists, but did side better with feminists.

Now, I was confused -- she's someone who I know has feminist ideals, she got divorced and became a single mom when it was really hard to even get the papers, has always upheld women, she is a genuine feminist.

But then she continued, and then I realized -- she meant she wasn't a MYSANDRIST! She just doesn't have the word for that!!

Often our elders will apparently say "the wrong thing" but it's because they don't have the lingo down, they genuinely grew up in a different time -- and we have to listen to them to get their point
