tubi is one of our greatest warriors in the fight against streaming services costing a fortune for mediocre content. tubi has the most insane collection of movies you will ever encounter all for free. it has cult classics and questionable lifetime movies and movies that nobody except like three people on the planet have ever seen. tubi has movies that doesn’t exist. like if you just thought of a movie one day but never made it and no one ever made it it would somehow still exist on tubi. one day i will log onto tubitv dot com and i will see terribly inappropriate, overly complex, and strange on there. and i won’t even be surprised.
I apologize for how sporadic my thoughts are going to sound in this post, but I wanted to talk about it because it's been in my head for a hot minute and I want other people's thoughts on it too.

We saw this with the new Fable game.
We saw this with Horizon.
We saw this with Ghost of Yotei.
We saw this with many others.
Now we're seeing it with God of War: Laufey. I'm getting really sick of this pattern.
Now granted, I personally do not really subscribe to the God of War series. Not because I hate it, think it's bad, or anything. I just personally don't dip my toes into pagan mythological stuff (I'm correcting myself a bit here as earlier I said Greek Mythology but it has some Nordic stuff there too) as I did before due to my personal past and convictions after re-dedicating my life to Christ.
And no, I'm not trying to 'convert you' so please don't start throwing up on me. I'm just giving context here. So any info that I do know is from my past in studying it and me looking for more context regarding the hate for this game.
But even I have to say that the hatred from male fans regarding Laufey is just so unnecessary and I can't NOT talk about this pattern. Sure, I've talked about it once or twice, but I will KEEP talking about it as a woman myself who really likes video games.
To me, it just gets clearer and clearer to me that a very, VERY noticeable portion of men (so don't throw the 'its not all men' at me) just hate women being women in games---ESPECIALLY if that woman character is the protagonist of the game.
We have people (majority of them being men because let's just be honest here), saying that Laufey is ugly, calling the game woke, making sexist jokes, complaining about it, etc. And I am just so tired of a game having a female protagonist, and then it automatically gets 'woke' hashed onto it JUST for having a female protagonist.
Like, incels calling a game woke has the same effect as a someone on Twitter calling something racist: The word has no meaning anymore. Nowadays, the word woke literally just means, "I hate it because it doesn't cater 100% to my worldview."
I know that they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but you will never convince me in a million years that she's hideous.
I'm not even joking, if you're calling Laufey UGLY or unattractive, then I firmly and unmoveably believe that you are just absolutely porn addicted. What the heck else is she supposed to look like? She literally just looks like a NORMAL HUMAN WOMAN.
And for the people trying to act like she's an irrelevant character, isn't she literally Kratos' wife? Isn't she the mother of one of the game's recognizable characters? What do you mean irrelevant? That's insane to me.
Like, with how much we keep seeing this pattern pop up over and over again, it really just seems like (well, not seems now is it?) men just...don't want female protagonists for games. And I personally think that its because the video game world for a long time has been very male centered.
But now with the rise over the past few decades with women getting interested in it, games have been changing a bit to involve more female characters, protagonists, and female perspectives. And the misogynists who are used to having body pillows of their favorite female characters do not like that.
And what's so insane to me is that these are the kinds of men wo complain that women "don't like video games" yet they constantly bully and shut down opportunities for women to be more involved in the video game space.
Once again, this isn't just with God of War: Laufey, it's been with so many other games that have attempted to include women just as...PEOPLE?
And sure, not every man has a problem with every female character in a game. Obviously not. If you know that's not the kinda guy you are---congrats, the shoe doesn't fit.
Obviously, women getting involved in video games is going to make changes to how video games are made. Women are a growing demographic and these companies want more money. It's quite literally stupid for them to NOT value the input of a growing consumer base. I'm not even saying you have to want or like the game. We like what we like, I get it
But what I am saying is that if you are solely hating on a game and getting hot fire mad, making gross statements, etc---just because the protagonist is a woman, then you need to get off of pornhub, stop watching abusers with podcasts, and go out into the real world and actually see what real women look like.
I'm so sick of hearing men say they want women to like the stuff they like, but then bully us when we actually try to join. I'm just so annoyed and done with it.

I don't think that getting something written on your body that does (however painstakingly) have a method of removal is the same as getting parts of your body permanently removed and probably getting castrated

A frustrating part of the mainstream vegan “love all animals and protect the environment” mindset is the fact that things need to die in real-life ecology all the time but deer hunting season makes icky feelings and carp culls aren’t cottagecore
The vegan “any animal death ever is morally wrong” mindset doesn’t hold up when:
We don’t have any of the large predators we used to (black bears, mountain lions, or gray wolves) but still retain large deer populations. If nothing is removing animals, they’ll quickly overload the carrying capacity of the environment and have massive losses to starvation and disease that can also pass on to livestock. Human hunters replace the large predators that our landscape can no longer support.
It’s kinder to euthanize an un-releasable hawk rather than try to find it a permanent home with humans. Wildlife rehabs have extremely limited space and resources and are usually run entirely on donated money and volunteer time. Only a few are large and stable enough to care for permanent residents long-term, and those spots are few and far between.
An invasive species poses a danger to threatened native wildlife. I will admit- Australian possums are adorable. But not in New Zealand, where they’re an invasive species that eats the eggs of ground-dwelling birds that previously had no such predators. The landowners I worked with replanting native bush, all native Maori, had no qualms about setting the dogs on them.
I don’t know how to end this except. Sometimes things just gotta die and acting otherwise just isn’t a realistic expectation.
Highlights from the notes over the past 6 months include a lot of angry vegans saying “you’re blowing things out of proportion, no vegans actually think like this!” and a lot of people who work in conservation and education saying “Every day. I have to fight people who think like this.”
