we gotta stop treating other peoples headcanons and interpretations as some sort of malicious attack on the character itself. I know you love the character and you feel that certain interpretations go against the core of their being, but that doesn’t actually mean it shouldn’t exist. you’re tiptoeing a very conservative line when you take away other people’s safe sandbox to play in when you engage in the fandom and negatively asserting your own interpretation. you don’t need to announce your vehement disagreement every time you don’t like something to the whole fandom, the truth is you need to learn to be uncomfortable and not make it everyone else’s problem. block and filter, curate your own space.

the other thing about Internet dogpiling is that it is just not possible to think clearly during the acute stages. it’s so easy to criticize people for responding defensively or tactlessly to mass criticism but I cannot overstate the degree to which your brain becomes a rat in a trap. I think we do have to temporarily recalibrate our expectations in these circumstances and accept that they do not necessarily represent how that person responds to criticism. the skills for self-regulating and reacting to normal interpersonal criticism are not the same skills needed to respond to viral callouts.

Ok, mother of GOD that's a lot of responses and I am but one man with Excel. I'll update these ASAP but also some rules:

A Pokemon only counts for itself, not its evolution line.

A Pokemon with multiple forms (like Zygarde) will only be counted for the specified form. A Pokemon with multiple appearances (like Spinda, Vivillon, Sylvally, etc.) count for all their appearances.

I'm literally doing this as a testament to my own depression that not everyone is lovable, so add that to the weight of this post's meaning.

Watched 7x02 last night and it's hard to overstate how much I hate Ian's heterosexual sex experience.

From a character perspective I dislike it because I wish Ian hadn't felt pressured and just... Found the first random woman to look at him. It didn't feel particularly true to him and it didn't feel particularly insightful as an arc or character moment.

From a show perspective, I hate that we see pretty much the whole thing where we never got that for him with anyone he was actually attracted to.

From a scene perspective I hate how awkward and uncomfortable it is. The woman making overdramatic sexy noises and just not at all picking up on how uncomfortable and wooden Ian is. Like... How can she be enjoying herself that much when he's so clearly not into it? Did he pop a Viagra, how is he even hard?!

The whole thing is terrible and the only thing I found even moderately funny was Lip, both in the 96% straight conversation and afterwards when he's responding to Ian's dramatic beer gargling... But even then I feel like Ian's not entirely joking about the PTSD comment. Like, he just did that for no good reason. Poor idiot darling.

Also, while all sorts of people exist and so I can be reasonably assured there are guys like Caleb... To me it leaned away too hard on a ridiculous attitude (and Ian having no one around to call it that), just in the interest of breaking them up so they could do something different with Ian.

Mickey is an addict

maybe it wasnt addressed because shameless centred around the gallaghers, but it shocks me that mickeys mental health never drove him to sincerely consider su*cide. theres mentions of him being depressed “hes depressed?… how the f*ck can you not be living in this” - mickey to fiona 4ep11, mickey self harming by punching the mirror in s4, and also general signs of depression as 0 zest for life “im f*cked for life anyway, man”, not taking care of himself, and constantly in uncomfortable environments/ no “safe space”, living in squalor, in fear and with a deep level of self hatred and absolutely no one to talk to. On a biological/psychiatric level, his dopamine levels must be in the f*ing PITS. Which actually brings me to my wish that they shone more of a light on mickeys escapism through drugs, alcoholism, and generally any and all avoidance of responsibility that would make him confront the trajectory of his life.

When ian came into his life, someone who not only understood and accepted him, but gave him the love and emotional support hes been deprived of, that must have felt similar to a feeling of a drug. His absence led Mickey to frequent the bar and subtly show signs of a drinking problem, and its a reoccurring issue that happens when Ian goes into the psych ward. He uses the alcohol to distract from his pain, to escape from the harshness that is his life.

So when S6 came, and Mickey had no access to his usual methods of distraction coupled with the deprivation and sharp coldness of ians affections - Realistically, must have sent him off the rails. given he was previously so protective of his heart and feelings, not wanting to feel dependent on anyone as a safeguard, only for ian to break down those walls and kind of leave him behind (at the time, and obviously ian has his reasons and I do defend him for some of this). The level of patience and understanding Mickey demonstrates in the S6 prison scene is genuinely heart shattering, especially when you see the last ditch effort he makes to gain Ians affections by carving his name into his heart. Its supposed to come off as wacky and comical I imagine because its a crazy thing to do but its genuinely such a deeply depressing sight to see. He has absolutely no foundations, no one who cares about him, he cannot even extend his care to himself via the tattoo. In prison you have absolutely no escape, you are confined to your cell and have to sit with your thoughts - no blocking out the noise through alcohol and jamming on a guitar butt naked for example. So do I think its a realistic pathway for Mickey to self-destruct in a way such as suicide? Absolutely. And would lowkey be very tethered to Ian since It was pretty much implied that Ian was almost going to attempt before he witnessed a car crash through S6.

okay this was something I drafted forever ago but im publishing it now because gallavich fandom I miss you… youre the best fandom ever like youre all so funny and inspired. no one does it like you guys, best tt edits and fanfics too ugh. a blessing even though im not as into the ship its such a comfort to me. anyways!

the "came back wrong" trope except like... they didnt. like this mad scientists wife died, and so he studied necromancy, brought her back, and she came back and it all worked. like she came back exactly the same as she was before with literally no difference. but the scientist guy is like "oh no... what have i done.... shes Different now!!!! she came back Wrong!!!!" and shes just like. chilling. reading a book. cooking dinner. shes just so so normal but in the guys mind hes like "oh shes soooo weird" but shes just normal

Anyways I sometimes get angry that the shameless writers tried to erase Mickey and demonise him in the narrative after they fumbled Noel's contract. Only to replace Mickey with Trevor.....

Like I have no issue with Trevor as a character and I think he would have made a great friend for Ian, I think Ian really could have used some queer friends, especially whilst trying to rebuild his life post-diagnosis and post-mickey's imprisonment but the second Trevor and Ian got romantic????

Trevor never understood Ian.

I keep thinking about how Trevor defended Monica and acted like Ian's attitude towards her wasn't deserved. I keep thinking about how Trevor called Ian a twink, like it was nothing, almost like it was an endearment.

Ian was preyed upon by older men. Ian became a sex worker because he was hypersexual and unmedicated/undiagnosed. Monica encouraged that behaviour.

And Mickey beat the fuck out of a guy who called Ian a twink. Mickey said "is that all you think he is?". Mickey knew it was too much to handle alone and Ian needed professional help when he learned Ian did a porno.

Mickey stopped Ian from killing Kenyata and that priest, despite the fact Mickey comes from a family who don't shy away from murder and he wanted to kill them himself. He stopped Ian because he knew it wasn't what Ian really wanted.

Mickey always tried so hard.

He wasn't always right. He was often overwhelmed and stubborn and ill-informed, but from the second he committed to Ian, he always considered Ian's feelings and what Ian needed.

Lip said Ian went crazy when Mickey was around. Fiona said Mickey would set a match to his life.

But canonically Mickey has acted as Ian's impulse control more than anyone else. Ian's most extreme episodes and lowest points have occurred when Mickey wasn't there to help.

After Noel's exit from the show, they tried to paint Mickey as abusive, despite the fact Ian almost always threw the first punch or goaded Mickey into a fight after he'd tried to walk away.

I will always be bitter towards the writers for how they tried to demonise and erase Mickey as if he isn't an essential part of Ian's narrative.
