and yes i know about the communes that fell apart because nobody wanted to do any work but like. i think thats less that being lazy is a symptom of the human condition but more like. they werent used to doing that kind of work because at that point in time their class and gender privilege meant they didnt have to. the women in those communes DID cook and clean and whatever else, because they were used to that being expected of them.
and this is not like. apologia for communist men who dont do the dishes but the solution to that isnt to tell leftists that under socialism they will have to do 24/7 labour at the bread factory but like. to encourage people, especially people in positions of relative privilege, to think critically about how they are supported by others in their day to day life (especially where that support might be unpaid or underpaid) and ask them to make an effort to support those people in return. its mutual aid, not Earning The Right To Live Through Work.
I work with 15 year old girls who are so brainwashed by their pimps. They will try to run away from a safe place to get back to this man. They have stop orders on them if they run so we have to restrain them from going back to a life of abuse. They have specific lists of who they can call and I have to listen to their intimate conversations with mom, grandma.
Sometimes we fail. And she gets away. And we never see her again.
These same girls have their pimp aggressively looking for them. To him, she is no different than a 20 year old other than the fact she can make him much more money. To him, she is property. He calls the house to find her. He goes to family members houses posing as a social worker. He waits outside the facility in case she runs. We are to call the police when we see them. Cops show up, this man walks free. Despite being a known child trafficker with tattoos of his name on a 14 year olds body.
So when I hear you defend prostitution, this is what I hear you defending. These pimps are not anomalies and they do not solely prey upon children. They are the ones managing the women who you so strongly defend the right to abuse.
If you defend prostitution or purchase women’s bodies, you are defending child trafficking and unimaginable suffering.
From Al-Araqib to Susiya Forced Displacement on Both Sides of the Green Line Adalah captures the stories of two Palestinian villages, Al-Araqib and Susiya – one in Israel, one in the West Bank – that share a single story of struggle against forced displacement.
You’re killing people? No. I’m killing boys.

Ok but Zuko using the knowledge he acquired during his banishment to help him as the Fire Lord. Like making small talk with Earth Kingdom dignitaries about their local foods that he enjoyed and even misses. Like having in-depth conversations with his captains about sea currents and navigation. Like, in the middle of a meeting with several high-ranking naval officials, pointing out flails in security, like how a person can cling to a Fire Nation ship for hours at a time, or climb aboard using hatches on the upper decks, or disguise themselves as a lower ranking guard with easily accessible spare armour….
Though none of his experiences can prepare Zuko for the long, awkward silence that comes after he admits to doing or at least knowing something illegal and/or completely buck wild
fire lord zuko: you should maybe revisit the security measures around the water ducts that the sealturtles use
northern water tribe leader: that’s not necessary, no one can survive submerged in the artic ocean for so many minutes
zuko:
zuko: remember that time the fire nation attacked you
Zuko: okay first you have to promise not to get mad
Earth King: Tell me about your first visit to Ba Sing Se.
Zuko:
lying to people in positions of power (landlords, rental agencies, employers) to get what u want (a flat, a job, whatever) is cool and u should do it more often.
maybe it’s the Older Sibling in me but lying to people outright, by omission, or by implication is a useful skill. if the landlord says it’s not a party flat tell them you’re relieved to hear that because you hated living with people who had people over a lot. no you didn’t meet your future roommates through a facebook flatmate searching group, you met through mutual friends. you’re neurotypical and love working with people, customer service is your passion! you used to do tons of volunteer work in high school while also juggling extracurriculars and maintaining good grades which shows you’re really good at time management and like being busy, nevermind the fact that your school required you to do those volunteer hours. lie on the spot! adapt! you too can be the perfect person for every single situation! don’t feel bad about it! there’s no reason to be honest as long as it won’t directly be clockable as a lie!
From a documentary about Akha people (an indigenous tribe to mountain forests in Thailand). Like many other indigenous people in the world, they are blamed for environmental destruction (despite taking care of the land and maintaining biodiversity), and were forcefully relocated so loggers and industrial farmers could use the land and use impoverished Akha people as laborers.
Facts.
For context: This guy was the co-creator of Dogecoin.
“You’ll get what’s coming to you some day, Brekker.“ “I will,” said Kaz, “if there’s any justice in the world. And we all know how likely that is.”

Man I wish universal basic income was a thing so people could just leave jobs they’re unhappy at and wouldn’t have to worry about not affording their basic needs while they look for something new or so that people could actually explore their passion projects like only the rich and powerful can just take time off to write or work on art or go back to school and even if you’re having mental health problems you can’t just take an extended vacation a lot of places still don’t consider mental health as actual illness anyway fuck capitalism am i right brother?
