I NEED more headcannons of this itâs too funny, like, Iâm imagining Angelique or Philip being like âHoward. Howard Plunket. What Iâm the bloody hell are you on about.â (Howard was talking about something Phil did very much in private)
Or alternatively after they figure out something is up with Howard:
Philip: *working on something* thinking, âok now I could test chemical A or chemical B on this, thereâs nothing in textbooks about this. HmmâŠ
âHoward, which should I use? Acid or mercury on this?â
Howard very clearly answering absentmindedly: âAcid will result in a thing thatâs placid, mercury will just give you something most ornery.
Philip: thank you Howie.
Howard, whoâs brain has now caught up: wait-
Philip: thank you Howie.
Also side note, Iâd like to point out, how much shit and or how much was Philip talking about Howard during his employment that Angelique and deduce that itâs the mysterious Howard sheâs heard of sheâs speaking to when properly meeting??
Anyways good day! :D
Hdkdndldkedn yes, absolutely! I love these ideas. And I find the idea of Phil or Angelique taking advantage of it very funny lmao but hey, might as well put your friend's Eldritch knowledge to good use, am I right?
Oh, wait, you know what would be absolutely hilarious? If Phil or Angelique figure it out before Howard does, and they do little tests like these to confirm their hypothesis. Hence Howard's confusion at his own answers.
More headcanons, huh? Well... since he saw everything, Howard would also have seen every modern meme, right? Can you imagine, he uses modern slang or memes for his rhymes? Bet that one would confuse the shit out of Phil and Angelique lmao. And then when they ask Howard has to try to explain vines and stuff, like: "... The container was empty, with no soda sweet. The girl said so, threw it, and coined the term 'yeet'!"
You know, I would pay money to see someone explain modern meme culture in rhymes. Especially since they'd probably also have to explain some modern technology along the way. That'd be a fun time for our big three.
On the other hand, Howard also has knowledge of the past, right? Maybe he comes across a historical mystery and knows exactly what happened. Bonus points if at first he's confused about it being a mystery, having mistaken his Eldritch knowledge for common knowledge he just couldn't remember the original source of.
Unfortunately, his Eldritch knowledge isn't exactly a source, either. But if he ever got especially fed up about it, he could use his Eldritch knowledge to know where evidence in support of the correct answer is, and then do something with that. In the meantime, Phil or Angelique will have to put up with his annoyance that people don't know the answer because he knows!! He fucking knows but can't tell anyone!!!
As for the workplace gossip... Fhkdndlend yeah it really makes you wonder how much Phil talked about Howard to his co-workers, doesn't it? But also. What if it wasn't just Phil. What if Angelique occasionally heard from either one of the Doctors Morose about "that applicant who applies every year but keeps doing so in rhyme". It was pretty easy for her to connect that person with the friend Phil kept talking about â someone who was rejected and speaks in rhyme â but when she actually met him it took her a minute for her to connect "rhyming weirdo who saved me" with "jerk friend and persistent applicant I keep hearing about at work". Seeing as she realizes who Howard is after Howard says he was "in the running" to work at Greatmaw Isle, I think it's a possibility.
Either way, I bet hearing Howard's reason for being on the island greatly confused her. Like, "This is the shitty friend I've been hearing way too much about?? The dude who blew up at his childhood friend for getting his dream job is willing to face death and walk backwards into hell to save him?? This dude's even weirder than I thought he would be."
Ok you just made me have a thought, luckyâs bar, where knowhere is I donât think exists in physical space, personally I theorize that Knowhere is Howardâs self conscious or the theory that heâs a being that screwed up just like Howard did and is trying to get Howard not repeat history by being a knob to him and blunt as one too.
But setting aside all that I think that Knowhere might only be accessible/seen by Howard for that âone night onlyâ bar the bad ending with the letter left down by the dock. But with the multiple doors that all lead to the bar and Knowhere I donât think exist outside of that night, or more accurately
Only exist for Howard.
Thus I ask the question, where in the fuck did Angelique see Howard walk out to after their encounter in the kitchen?? Like, with this theory that should be a wall- did she blink and Howard was just gone? Or did he just phase through what looked like a wall to Angelique for what Howard was a doorway?
And further more, I ponder how confused Philip and Angie is if Howard were to ever mention âthat mite odd smoker of a catâ (I donât have the energy to conjur up any rhymes for Howard forgive me.)
I lean towards Knowhere being some kind of supernatural entity that only appears to certain people in certain situations like Howard's, rather than just his conscience, seeing as they can apparently change Howard's physical body to give him more stamina and all... although I doubt they're actually doubling his lungs' size. So, I also think the bar only exists for Howard, or is at least in some non-physical space only he can access. But I never thought about Angelique seeing him walk into the bar, lol. She follows up with him about it later like:
"Hey Howard, where did you go after you left the lab kitchen?"
"What do you mean? I just went to the side, where there's a lovely place to stay and hide. Lucky's Bar is the name of that strange resting place, with a cat named Knowhere who has a smug face."
"I've... never heard of a bar like that on the island. Or a cat like that. Maybe they were one of the Beast Folk...? Anyway. How did you get there?"
"I... walked through the door? Was that not clear? Were you not sure?"
"Howard, there wasn't a door there. I watched you walk through solid concrete."
Phil, who up to this point was focused on his book, lifting his head: "Wait, what â"
... Without knowing about how Knowhere is probably some odd entity of their own, this makes it sound like Howard was a little Eldritch even before facing the Great Older One, lol.
But yeah, I think they'd definitely be confused to hear about Knowhere, especially if they learn of the deals Howard made with him. Phil comments on how Howard's bag is able to hold more than he remembers, only to find out from Howard that his best friend gave a children's book to an anthropomorphic cat that lectured him on words and his past before making Howard's bag larger than it physically should be. Phil just slowly puts back whatever he was pulling out of the bag.
On a different note, this is the first time I've seen the name "Angie" used for Angelique, unless I saw it in the game and just forgot about it. I like it! In my current WIPs, I gave her the nickname "Ann", but I might use that one now, too.
oh i just wrote "Angie" cause i was feeling sick in the car and was getting sick of typing out "Angelique" over and over agin though this also gets some other funny things with the other spots, bar the city, that lead to the bar, like the moose room, which clearly stretches much longer than it once was, and in the junkyard where im like 90% sure should just go above/into open water. like angie: howard what do you mean you could also go into this "bar" in the dump?? where your describing is just ocean! and not only that but also in no way links to the kitchen in the labratory! Phillip: Howie, what drugs did you take that gave you more stamina?? Howard, Philip my friend, that annoying cat merely said he would give me something to "increse my lung size" on account of the deadly things like the molten men i though, why not seize? Phillip: that sounds like something a demon would deal with, what did you give "knowhere"!? Howard: for that one, a plum pit, said something bout the smell and quick wit. Philip: a plum pit. howard: a plum pit *smile* meanwhile while this is happening Knowhere's reflection is in a window or something laughing his arse off while chalking his billiard stick watching this
Ahh, I see, I see. Well, I still think I'll start using the nickname. It's cute! Also, I hope you're feeling better now.
Oh, speaking of the moose room! Earlier, I was trying to remember a specific entrance to the bar, but I couldn't find it even when scrubbing through a playthrough. That's the one I was thinking of! I'm using that as more evidence that the bar is a non-physical space only Howard can access, because the YouTuber I watched play through the game used the bar to get away from the moose man. And normally, the moose man can follow you around to an extent, but it didn't follow Howard/the YouTuber in there.
Lmao, love how Phillip just immediately assumes Howard took drugs. Fair enough, though, especially given all the medical experiments going on there. And then fearing that Howard made deals with a demon... He could be right, haha, but at least Knowhere isn't the type to demand your soul. They just read you and your past for filth with no mercy.
Howard, after giving very concerning and confusing information to his friends: :)
You know, even though I think the bar was something Howard could only access on his journey, needing to hear what Knowhere was saying... it could be funny if he continues finding ways to go to the bar. Phil and Angie have to keep an eye on him whenever he spots a "shortcut" or looks too interested in an empty space/wall, because there's a large chance he's just going to disappear from this mortal plane for a time if he moves towards it. And, if he does retain his eldritch knowledge, he'd have "seen" the entrances, so it wouldn't be impossible for him to at least have an idea of how to visit the bar again.
Buuuuuut honestly I prefer the bar being left in the past to confuse the shit out of Phil and Angie when they hear about it, haha.
Haha yeah, I think the bar is left in the past, though I like to think that Knowhere occasionally watches on to laugh at Howardâs social ineptness with all the weird shit that happened lol
Though to spin a yarn if he could somehow manage to make his way back into the bar, Iâm just imagining him holding philipâs hand like âcome on! The bar isnât far!â And then Howard proceeds to walk through a wall and Philip just smacks into it, but then from Howardâs perspective their grips loosened and howard is just looking back like âdid Philip pledge sobriety or something of that sort? I only wanted to play billiards with him and that strange consortâ
Lmao I love that! Maybe Howard asks Knowhere about why his friends can't see/"don't want to" enter the place and Knowhere says some cryptic shit that basically amounts to "when we met, you needed an actual supernatural entity to make you realize just how much of a jerk you were. Despite everything, those two don't need that."
You know, that actually makes me think. What if the lasting effect of having way too much eldritch knowledge blasted into his head is just... being able to sense the supernatural? Although, arguably, maybe he always was. He doesn't seem to react much to Samantha's ghost, and to be able to withstand the Great Older One's presence, he'd have to be a little odd in that area already... But in this scenario it would be ramped up to 11. Dude's finding "shortcuts" that don't exist, leaving Angie and Phil to stare at the wall he just passed through like "damn it, not again, Howard!" Maybe he can even sense curses or cursed objects, although I'm not sure how that would come up.
Speaking of, I think I've seen it discussed elsewhere, but the discovery that Howard talked to Samantha Morose's ghost is probably going to throw Phil and Angie for a loop lol. Especially if that conversation comes after the Knowhere conversation.
"And... when you talked to her, what did she do?"
"She upgraded my slingshot, so I could save you!"
"... Okay."
Yeahhhhh, the curses thing I could imagine something like
Angie: hey guys I went on a dig and found this!
Philip feeling like heâs with the kingâs rock again: I feel sickâŠ.
Howard coming into the room the moment he lays eyes on that: Angelique wherever you found that throw it back. (Notably not rhyming)
And with the ghost thing:
Angie: at least Sam didnât have to witness how far things fell..
Howard: donât be so sure of such, she helped me with much.
Angie and Phil: Howard you fucking what.
Ooooh, I love the idea of Phil being able to sense curses due to his experience with the king's rock so much!! He should get a funky power after being so much. As a treat.
Howard drops the rhyming for once! That's how you know it's serious. You know (I say, suddenly aware that I say "you know" very often, lol), I'd really like to see more people playing around with the 1% of the time that Howard doesn't rhyme. There is that line near the beginning of the game, after all, when he investigates the lock outside the mansion: "... This is going to be a whole thing, isn't it?" I love his rhyming, but there's just a lot of potential in those rare instances that he doesn't, don't you think? Especially since he continues to rhyme in the presence of an eldritch being, but drops the rhymes when faced with fetch quest instructions. It's an odd quirk to his odd quirk! Then again, personally, I like to think of that line as Howard going "damn it, I can't just check on Phil and be on my way; this is going to be a long, complicated quest to save him, isn't it?" (And he was right.)
Heh, hey, at least they can take solace in the idea that Sam was able to help. I... think that's comforting?
On the bright side, Howard does have some good news about Samantha that he can pass on. He can confirm to Angie that Sam saw her as family, and he can tell Phil that Sam always thought of him as a good kid. I think that would especially help Angie, who might be feeling guilty about being unable to save Sam (especially since Thomas blamed her for not doing so).
Additionally something to address/ faff about, how do you think it would go if Howard or shine were to ever meet knowhere? Like independently of Howard randomly one day?
actually furthermore,, also yeah the 1 percent of the time Howard don't rhyme is underutilized tbh but furthermore, i wonder a few things 1: to continue my pervious musing, Angie or Phil meeting Knowhere i see as possible independent of Howard, perhaps in dreams or nightmares of sort, or Phil dealing with his own resonance with the king's rock, "Afterall, its Lucky's bar and my name's Knowhere!" 2: speaking of the king's rock, i saw someone else musing on if the Dr Seuss books existing in universe, but what of the king in yellow? afterall, if I've read the rubbings correctly, The King in yellow was merely the predecessor to Dr Tomas Morose. Conducting nearly the same actions as Tom only to be beaten and left in the street (I've no evidence for this next thing but I think he might be the one waiting outside the chapel near the graveyard in the bell room in the ancient city) So one must wonder if any of the three were to read it, i imagine they would, if they would think something dodgy afoot.

TOUILLE KISS METER
Yes Iâm shooting big for this one
Mainly because Iâm not too convinced this will do well, quite honestly I just did this for shits and giggles lol
Yknow my first idea for this was to get Kickinâs balls kicked by Touille
make the number go up!
