#influenceisBOTH :: Why #Details People Need #Dreamers & Visa Versa: ADHD/ADD is so widely misunderstood. In most ways I see it as a gift, not a crutch. #adhd people need to be #inspired to perform at optimum levels. And yes, we need to learn to SLOW way down sometimes to make the right decision. BUT is it possible that since we’re used to going fast, we’re already used to falling - and therefore, we’re quick at getting right back up? We grow #tougher not only because we experience #failure, but because we learn to fend off criticism from people that try to shatter our self esteem. We become #resilient and wise. The more we accomplish the more we see how foolish criticism is from people who have no experience in what they criticize. But we also need to listen to those that are actually giving us good advice. People with ADD learn to appreciate and LISTEN to people who help them pay attention to important details but they DISMISS and DETEST people who tell them their dream/passion is a waste of time or that they are just plain stupid. It’s no surprise that people who have #add and learn to fail fast end up going surprisingly farther than anyone can really comprehend. "Essentially they need help nurturing and taming the stallion within. Done well, they make for particularly interesting and #innovative adults who like themselves." And what about those who make painstakingly careful moves in hopes to NEVER fall? It's true they may never fall, but how far will they go? Is it possible they could go farther if they were speeding alongside a dreamer? And conversely, with a careful & meticulously organized person could a dreamer be warned before falling in a ditch? "Hey man, you'll never believe this!! Run with me and see what I've found!! Come on, come on hurry it's amazing, I gotta show you!!" - Dreamer/Big Ideas (fast brain/intuition) "Okay, okay I believe you but hey SLOW DOWN! Dude, you almost fell in the mud - you see that branch over there?! Duck!" - Careful/Details (slow brain/rational brain) I love how in this blog he compares people with ADD to “global thinkers”. I couldn’t agree more. We start BIG and then come down to earth to figure out the details (hence missing some of them). Most people figure out the details FIRST. That’s why “global thinkers” create the most #INFLUENCE when we are coupled with “sequential thinkers” (ie Jobs & Wozniak, Walt Disney & Roy Disney, JFK & Robert Kennedy) Sequential learners focus on DETAILS and sometimes need time (and support) to see the bigger picture; details inform them about the big ideas; they learn in part-to-whole ways. Global learners focus on the BIGGER PICTURE and sometimes need time (and support) to see the details; big ideas inform them about the details; they learn about the parts after seeing the whole TAKEAWAY: Whether you have #adhd or not, you can probably relate to being a BIG IDEAS person or a DETAILS person. We need each other. We need to be #understanding and #kind to each other. So why not get #support and guidance from your opposite and try to learn from them? I feel “global” thinkers often try to pair up with and befriend “details” people, but since sometimes “details” people haven’t seen the “bigger picture”, they don’t want to waste their time or be bothered by these scatter-brained, #unorganized, “#dreamers”. HOWEVER, when “details” people recognize the passion and fire that “big ideas” people possess - they will also realize that BIG IDEAS are nothing without #guidance, #direction and DETAILS. #BIGIDEAS people - learn to appreciate those close to you who understand the DETAILS, you absolutely need their guidance. DETAILS people - take the opportunity to dance in the mind of a #dreamer. While you are focussing on where to put the next puzzle piece, they want to show you a glimpse of the beautiful masterpiece they’ve already seen. Together, we can be unstoppable.
