Why do people get abortions when they find out the child is disabled? Especially if they want to have a baby (just not one who’s disabled).

It doesn’t make sense because you can become disabled at any point in your life. What will you do if your child gets into an accident resulting in severe brain damage? You’re not going to euthanize them?

Maybe it’s because you have a better attachment to your child compared to a fetus that hasn’t been born yet? But then what would you do if you’re walking down the road and see a child that you have zero attachment to who also happens to be disabled? Would you shoot them? that would obviously never happen, it’s just hypothetical lol. You probably wouldn’t though because they would look and act like a child, unlike a developing fetus. So what if you dehumanize the child? Take away what makes them human?

I’m actually curious about what other people think, what separates us from fetuses?

about the Chechnya - lgbt violence. ^this. this is actually true, but none of the articles covers that I don’t know why. i hate what’s going on there, I can’t stand the president of Chechnya. I was ready to vomit and cry when i read the article. but i really can’t stand when Tumblr assumes Chechnya=the whole russia. In fact, it’s a republic with their own rules and system and president. and I would never go there in my sane mind, even though officially it’s Russia. and 99% people I know think the same. and if you read the article, not only police was violent but gays’ families also. their own families were killing them because of the religion and pride. say what you want, it’s true. and I’m not anti-Islam, we do have another Muslim republic in Russia, Tatarstan, and it’s one of the most progressive places. it’s totally totally different from Chechnya. but again, the problem isn’t the whole Russia (though it is homophobic but not that extreme) and please shut the fuck up with ‘what the hell is wrong with fucking Russia’ comments I’ve been seeing. the problem is people. the problem is fucking religious homophobia and conservative traditions and EXTREMELY toxic cult of masculinity developed in Chechnya by its president Ramzan Kadyrov. now I’m going to sign petitions, have a good day Tumblr

I’ve taken a gap year to volunteer with underprivileged children :)

Right now, I’m volunteering for an organization that provides assistance to struggling mothers. We take care of their children while they’re at work or if they’re going to a job interview. We also collect donations of essential childcare items for the mothers and babies such as baby bottles, diapers, pacifiers, etc.

In January I’m going to Russia for three months to volunteer with orphans and foster families. Our goal is to get Russia to move away from orphanages to a foster system.

Not wanting to be pregnant might be a reason some people abort, but that does not make the decision any less responsible.

It’s an incredibly selfish thing to do

It’s actually a self care thing. 

Some people have medicines they can’t take while pregnant. Some people have emotional, mental, physical, or financial issues that make being pregnant harmful to them. Some people just don’t want to be pregnant and forcing them through it would be detrimental to their health!

Some people are stuck in abusive situations where their birth control is tampered with - or completely denied - in an effort to keep them constantly pregnant.

Some people get abortions, because they already have kids to take care of. (61% of people getting abortions are parents, last time I checked.) 

I had an abortion in 2013, because it was irresponsible to bring another child into the world. My partner was unemployed; I worked in a physically demanding job in a setting that could put me at risk of miscarriage or being fired if I didn’t perform well; I could not emotionally or mentally put a child in the adoption system; another child would have gone over our max occupancy in our apartment, meaning we would’ve had to move. My already-born kids deserved to be fed, clothed, and sheltered.

So, kindly, fuck off, because you’ve never been in these kinds of situations and you have no right to pass judgement! :)

Less than 4% of women get abortions for health concerns. This includes physical and mental health, and cases where being pregnant could be fatal to the mother.

What is your source for women getting abortions because of abusive situations like the ones that you mentioned? 

100% of women who get abortions are mothers.

So you had no friends or family that could have let you stay with them until your partner gets a job? There are programs for that help pregnant women find jobs that are suitable for their needs. 

“I could not emotionally or mentally put a child in the adoption system.” Because death is a lot better than having to go to an orphanage or foster home? It’s completely impossible for them to have good lives and achieve things, right? 

Just because someone hasn’t been in one of these situations doesn’t mean that they can’t pass judgement. We judge things all the time without being in a specific situation. How many of us who judge police officers for killing unarmed children has actually been in that situation?
