#An icon with taste
i love it when people say "those european white jews changed their names to sound more indigenous when they moved to israel 🤬🤬🤬"
like babe those are hebrew names. i'm glad we agree that hebrew, the language of the jewish people, is the indigenous to the levant.
As the treasurer for the Jewish club on campus, I once accidentally put in a request for 10,000 dollars for our Hanukkah party.
What was even more insane about this is that said request was automatically approved through the school's system, hypothetically granting me the power to get a used car in the name of the Maccabees. So, for a good thirty minutes before my frantic email to every financial institution in my school was answered, I was plagued with two questions.
What the hell was the club going to do if all the funding we would be allotted for the next two years had to be spent in one evening?
If tasked with this enormous amount of money, what kind of rager would I now have to undertake in order to properly disperse the money?
Before Carl from accounting kindly answered my email at 9 PM on a Wednesday , I'd been researching the going rates for rent-a-penguins. Surprisingly much more affordable than you'd think.

When I was really little I asked my dad why we don’t celebrate Easter and he said it’s because we’re Jewish but I didn’t know Easter was a religious holiday so I just thought the Easter bunny was antisemitic
Shavuot being a holiday where we traditionally eat tons of dairy, and ask ourselves questions like, "whose idea was this we're all lactose intolerant" and also being a celebration of Ruth, who converted, and many converts not being cursed with inherited lactose intolerance.
I love dressing the Torah. I need one of those little 2000s-era doll dress-up games but it's dressing a Torah scroll

Once upon a time there was a girl whose wicked stepmother forced her to clean the entire house for Pesach all by herself. So while her stepmother and stepsisters left early for the grand seder at the Prince's palace, the girl spent the afternoon sweeping and dusting and washing and polishing. As she finally burned the last crumbs of chametz in the fireplace, she saw the sun setting and knew she would never make it to the Prince's seder on time, so she began to prepare her own meager dinner: a little Passover pizza. But miraculously, her fairy godmother appeared and transformed the pizza into a flying carpet to take her to the palace, and the cheese into a beautiful dress for her to wear. And to commemorate this story, to this very day, that cheese is named after that girl: they called her Matzah-rella.

an engraved passover plate by bernhardt van zeets. germany, late 17th-early 18th century.
the engravings were likely done by different people throughout the 18th-early 19th centuries. two sets of initials in roman script on the rim identify the first owner. a hebrew inscription around the rim was added later and includes initials of another owner. the childlike imagery in the center appears to have been added last.
