Baymax and savanaclaw
Last winter, after reading Leona's dream, I wanted Baymax to play the therapist for him cause his line broke my heart... I drew other stuff but didn't finish them back them.
Now that Baymax event is coming, it was the opportunity to finish them :3.
(Working on Leona's birthday, so I'm gonna answer you guys next month :x)
Look I don't think Supergirl (2026) is secretly a perfect masterpiece or anything (I personally thought it was like. a 6/10 fun time) but I do think it's wild that Tumblr isn't going crazy for it because this Kara is one coattailed suit away from being a Tumblr sexyman. she is the flawed messy female character people have supposedly been clamouring for. she's the popular archetype of a gruff self-destructive alcoholic middle-aged man begrudgingly having to look after a kid and growing fond of them but genderswapped and also 23. she's allowed to be visibly messy and kind of gross and her hair is constantly all over the place and she literally cries, screams, throws up, and pisses onscreen. she's caustic and mean and puts up an act of carelessness but has a heart of gold. she's heavily traumatised and coping with it terribly. if anything happens to her dog she will kill everyone in this room and then herself. she spends most of the movie in a trench coat and baggy band T-shirt. she gets into bar brawls and breaks a guy's hand. she is Going Through It 24/7 and looks the part. she stabs a guy in the throat. how is everyone else not obsessed with her.
“god thinks drag is gross and yucky” - contemporary English version
my hypothetical transgender interpretation of this passage is that you should dress for the gender you you truly are and it is a sin to deny God’s will in that matter. not that you must dress as your biological sex but that you must express yourself as what he created you to be
Okay, so, I’d like to defend this. The saying is: live by the text, do not die by the text. The Bible is several thousand years out of date, much of it was written as a code of morals and an outline for a way of living, philosophical, ethical and allegorical advice to overcome adversities facing people in the time period it was written. There are some good core messages and there are some pieces of the text that aged poorly, feel completely irrelevant to the modern era. The Bible must continuously adapt to the changing world, it is what you take from it and what you use it for. Some people use it as a weapon, some people use it to comfort themselves about the uncertainty of life. Different passages mean wildly different things to people and some have had people debating if they are literal or allegorical for centuries. The Bible isn’t a piece of literature where you can say “This was DEFINITELY the author’s intent.” because it has been translated so many times and so much of the context for some of these passages have been stripped away by time and rhetoric. The passage means what it means to you, what problems it solves when you read it. Stop letting the church or a random balding guy in vestments tell you what it means. Christian doctrine anarchy.
Then again, I’m agonistic and I did not grow up going to church. I’m playing fast and loose with this shit. I don’t believe this is the literal word of god.
I want to talk about Kalim's older brotherly side because I feel a lot of times, because Kalim is so cheerful, optimistic and naive to the world outside of his sheltered rich upbringing, people tend to treat him as though he's way younger than he actually is.
We don't get to see much of Kalim's family, but he is the oldest child of the Asims and has many younger siblings that he's pretty involved with-
Whenever Kalim can, he tries to interact with his younger siblings as much as possible- carrying them around, reading them stories, and playing games with them.
I'm sure Kalim doesn't have to interact with or spend time with all of his siblings, he is the heir and a very important too. But Kalim enjoys spending time with his siblings, and seems especially affectionate towards the younger ones.
Many of Kalim's siblings are around Cheka's age and even younger, and you can get a glimpse of how he interacts with little kids through his interactions with Cheka in the Sunset Savanna hometown event and the anthology manga
With kalim's older younger siblings however, he doesn't seem particularly super close to them either because of some 'cheeky phase' they develop when they grow over 10, or because the ones closest in age to Kalim may have complicated feelings over being 'spares' and that Kalim is the big important heir to the Asim fortune- Kalim makes it clear that he loves his siblings even if they act like Ace did in Playful Land (which is completely go off on a rant about how Kalim is spoiled)
Kalim can even act like an older brother towards Jamil despite being the younger one of the two by 9 months.
Although Jamil is definitely parentfied and Kalim was overly reliant on Jamil, Kalim has had moments where he's been protective over and even strict with Jamil when he's concerned,
There is a part of Kalim who is a caretaker deep down. He's someone who might feel responsible for making sure all of his siblings feel loved and seen, and he wants Jamil to be safe too. Given his willingness to be independent and not rely so much on Jamil, I'm sure he'll be implementing a lot of his brotherly skills to become someone Jamil and underclassmen can feel they can rely on in the future.
I, however, have always been team capable Kalim and want to see more of this side of him in the future. Kalim and Jamil's lives are endlessly interesting to me and I want to see more in twst (pleasepleaseplease)
I just finished up a shift working in the woodshop so here's my ranking of the tools I generally use, by how much they want to hurt me:
Planer: the planer is a reliable and gentle friend. It has many sharp spinning blades, but they are deep inside the machine, so you have to try to get hurt by the planer.
Table saw: it is like the ocean: huge, powerful, the source of all life. Respect it. Don't turn your back on it. It does not want to hurt you but it's impossible not to be constantly aware of the fact that it Can.
Chop saw: when you're doing a bunch of simple repetitive cuts, it is so so easy to get into a flow state. But watch out! That's its plan. Come onnnnn get carelesssss put those fingies ever closer to the blade to stabilize the wood better its fiiiiine.
Band saw: band saw! Perfect power tool for putting your fingers 1/8 of an inch from! A helpful and quiet tool the band saw :) so quiet you might not even notice it's turned on! Put fingers close to blade, safe with band saw. Friend band saw :)
Belt sander: OW
Hand saw: not only craves blood but actively seeks it
Router table: He appears to me in my dreams, dark and bloody, singing his piercing song. My destruction is his sweetest wish. I am too scared to use him unless I absolutely have no other choice. The rest of the time, I go out of my way to unplug him even if I'm on the other side of the shop.
Light Music Club is one of those parts of TWST that make me want to lie on the floor and howl forlornly like a husky.
i mean, at the very basic level each one of the three is basically "I must maintain my bright and cheerful persona to mask my depression," right
and all three of them have some flavor of issues when it comes to interpersonal relationships, right
Lilia carries around so much grief just by the virtue of being an old fae who saw so many shorter-lived people come and go. Who'd rather disappear on his own terms before he either has to bury one of his sons or have his other son bury him.
Cater is all like "Can't be hurt by loss if your connection wasn't that deep in the first place!" and goes for a lot of shallow friendships rather than a few meaningful ones. Who sort of resigned himself to a mask that might not fit quite right all the time, but feels safer that the uncertain possibility of rejection.
Then we have Kalim who was raised sheltered, without peers or close friends who chose him. His entire deal of being a target of assassination attempts, of choosing to be optimistic and place his trust in people regardless, in no small way because there was always somebody obligated to protect him.
There's this whole sliding scale of Idealism VS Pessimism when it comes to their interpersonal dynamic; all three could learn from each other and become better people, OR any one of them could have learned better coping mechanisms by watching the life experience of the other two, OR they could have made each other worse by being bad examples and feeding into each other's bad habits.
It's just like, can you imagine if Kalim talked to Lilia about losing Jamil as his one and only - as Kamil always assumed - best friend and sworn brother? What Lilia could've told him about loss and grief and moving on?
Can you imagine Kalim talking to Cater about feeling disoriented after his support system crumbled? Do you think Cater, who's been uprooted and replanted throughout his life, would go "oof, big mood" and give him pointers on how to find his footing again?
And Kalim himself, with his deliberate optimism and welcoming nature, might get the other two to open up more and let people in?
But just when Kalim could've benefited from his upperclassmen the most (after the winter break), the events of the main story happen in such a quick succession and with such weight that I don't even know where's the time for any of that???
First there's an entire month spent in preparation for VDC, keeping Kalim busy. STYX drops by soon after, so everyone is busy not losing their collective shit. There's a bit of a breathing room leading up to the island-wide sleep spell? but Lilia is def not in the right headspace. And during the island-wide sleep spell? Like yeah everyone's getting their personal arcs, but does anyone gets time to compare notes and get more insights on personal growth???
And then the school year will end, and the next year Lilia and Cater will have to do internships, leaving Kalim behind.
I just can't get over this little club where three boys share snacks and memes. A club which could've been such a neat little support system and a learning opportunity, if only any of the little shits in it had the guts to open up and be vulnerable.
A club plastered with that specific brand of tragedy where you can see how things could've been so very different, but can also see how everything could only led up to that specific situation.

The Odyssey but retold as a low-stakes modern adventure of one guy out with his girlfriend leaving the bar with his buddies to do just one (1) simple thing real quick, it'll take like 15 minutes tops, he'll be right back, but then some bullshit happens and the trip keeps getting more complicated as more bullshit keeps happening while he just tries to get back to the bar because he promised his girlfriend that he'd get back and he knows that she's still there because she told him she'd wait there.
And by the time he finally gets back it's almost 3 am and the bar is about to close while she's sitting there stone cold sober, surrounded by 5 drunk guys unsuccessfully trying to convince her to give up on waiting for him and go home with one of them instead. And the guy shows up to proceed to beat the shit out of them before explaining himself to her like hey sorry bullshit kept happening, my phone fell into a storm drain and my wallet got stolen when I was trying to find someone who'd borrow me a phone so I could call and
His girlfriend had been fending off the 5 drunk guys for most of the evening by explaining that even if she was going to ditch her boyfriend, she can't possibly leave without finishing her beer, which she is keeping perpetually full via careful sleight of hand where she's just pouring it back and forth into and out of the pitcher.
However the drunk guys are also drinking, and eventually she can't afford to buy another pitcher for the table so she can't keep up the ever-full beer glass trick. At this point she has to resort to setting up the pool trick shot that she's never seen anyone but her boyfriend pull off, and says she'll leave with whoever manages the shot first.
That buys her another hour or so and then, finally, her boyfriend makes it back. He looks like shit, hair down and just a mess, he's wearing an entirely different jacket that he got from an alley, and barely recognizable—especially to 5 guys who've been drunk for hours now. He lurks for a minute, finds out what's going on, and proceeds to pull off the trick shot first try. Throws the jacket off, fixes his hair with a hair tie his girlfriend lends him, finally looks like himself again, and THEN beats the shit out of them with the pool cue.
yuh i was there, that's how it happened

When I was a kid, maybe 14 or so (which is, you know, 20+ years ago), I belonged to a Yahoo! mailing list for an anime called Gundam Wing. It was mostly populated by other teens, of varying ages, as it was started by a teen and her friends. Eventually it migrated, when Yahoo! groups started as forums, and even branched off into non-GW related stuff in a second forum.
One of the things I remember the most clearly is the oldest person in the group. Her name was Steelsong. She was a 40-something Dom with a sub whose name we knew even though we knew nothing else. She ran her own fanfic archive because the web was still handmade HTML and navigated in webrings and I’m pretty sure Google didn’t exist or was only barely, barely launched and not well known. She was kind and patient and we loved her. She treated everyone on the group with the respect given any adult, even though most of the rest of the world was still treating us like we were children. Not teenagers even, but children. She never once condescended to any of us, never made our youth a barrier to her respect, never treated us like we were incapable of being full people or like we were less than her because we were young.
I remember that she hosted our fanfiction, as absolutely terrible as it was (and I still have some of it, I am WELL aware of how cringingly terrible it is, just absolute nonsense garbage), right there alongside of other fic that was soul-achingly beautiful. Not a separate section for her friends or for kids, just right there like we were good enough to feature alongside other authors. I never once received crit from her that I didn’t ask for, only support. Only love. I am still writing today partly because Steel was so kind about our fic, fanfic and original.
I remember that when I started doing clay sculpture, she commissioned a tiny pair of dragons from me, to support me doing artwork. She sent a check my mom cashed for me, and my mom helped me mail it when it was finished. It broke in transit, and Steel assured me that she mended it and that it was still beautiful. It was a small gold dragon curled up with a small silver dragon.
I remember that her patience knew no bounds. I remember that she was there for us, regardless of reason. When we wanted to know silly things like what to do with a single AA battery, she answered. When we had serious questions about sex, she answered. When we had questions about writing, she taught us. When one of our group members, a young gay teen in Australia, ended up in the hospital and then stopped making posts, and we all knew what had happened, she let us talk to her about it because we couldn’t go to our own parents, even though we had just lost a friend.
She was not a replacement to my parents, but she was an extra parent, in some ways. A friend, certainly, but someone that had been through more life than we had and was willing to pass on knowledge if we asked for it. Someone older that we trusted with things that were too uncomfortable to go to our parents or teachers or whatever about, because we already knew she wasn’t going to judge us or something, and that we would get an honest answer.
I don’t know why I’m remembering this so hard tonight, and I’m not sure if there’s a point to sharing this, except that I know she’s gone now. She was ill the last time we spoke, and her site went down a long time ago, and I miss her. She was a huge influence on my life, then and now. She was hope, for me, that life as an adult didn’t have to be boring, it wouldn’t have to mean giving up the things I loved and Becoming Only Responsible With No Fun. Her presence meant I had hope I could still write and play with friends even when I wasn’t ‘a kid’ anymore. And she’s gone, and I miss her, and I wanted to share her from the perspective of youth, and the perspective over twenty years later has provided me.
And I think of her, when people go off about older folks being in fandom with younger folks. I’m an older folks now, or at least middle aged folks because there are certainly folks older than me still, but I wasn’t always. I’ve been here since i was a younger folks, and I know how much Steel’s presence and support meant to me, how much she helped not just me but everyone on that group. And I think of the people saying older folks don’t belong in fandom, and that they shouldn’t interact with younger folks at all, and I just think… I can’t agree. I needed that kind of solid presence in my life back then and even at the age I am now, I need the folks older than me to stay. I want them here.
So I guess, like, if you’re here and you’re 40 or 50 or 60 or 70 or 80 or whatever, I want you here in fandom with me, still. Your presence here is a comfort. It is hope. It is a reminder that life will continue to be fun, even as I get older, myself. And if you’re younger and you have this sort of elder in your groups, I hope that they are like Steel. I hope they are kind and patient and supportive, and that knowing them gives you hope for your own future. I hope in twenty years you look back and remember them fondly.
if you're an adult behaving immaturely i'm not going to "treat you like a child" about it because i have a lot of respect for children as an oppressed and vulnerable class of people. i will however treat you like an embarrassment. which you are being.
tomorrow i have to give my daughter’s pikachu plushie gender-affirming surgery
(original tags: she literally had tears in her eyes while she explained that her pikachu had a boy tail shape. i was like hey she can still be a girl. all we know from her body shape is what her body is shaped like. maybe if we asked her she would say that she feels like she’s really a girl. and my kid was like BUT POKEMON CANT TALK 😭😭😭😭 so i was like ‘ok. pikachu. if you want to use he/him say ‘pika’. if you want to use she/her say ‘chu’. and if you want smth else say ‘pikachu’’. and my daughter had her say ‘chu’ and i was like see there you go! now. she doesn’t HAVE to change her tail shape. she can totally be a girl with a rectangle tail. but if she would feel more comfortable with heart shape bc she prefers it, or so that people won’t assume she’s a boy, i can make that happen. so pikachu what do you think? do you want tail surgery? and pikachu agreed enthusiastically! so. plushie gender-affirming surgery first thing tomorrow i guess!)
her results look great, congrats pikachu! 💖⚡️🏳️⚧️

I don't normally do Just Characters Swearing, but. ...this kind of wrote itself and then wouldn't leave my head. it comes from both a piece of character-writing advice that has always stuck with me, and also my conviction that Leona is 1000% funnier as a character if his dialogue has to stay G-rated. let Kalim say fuck, but don't let Leona say bastard.
(I'm sorry)
The boulder pushing punishment is iconic. But I think more people should know the reason Sisyphus was punished to begin with, which was for cheating death, twice.
The first time he cheated death, Sisyphus had just angered Zeus by revealing the location of the Asopid Aegina whom Zeus abducted. Which is super valid, fuck Zeus.
Sisyphus knew that Zeus would send the god of death Thanatos after him, so he prepared a trap and trapped Thanatos in the chains meant for him.
After that, nothing on Earth was able to die so long as Thanatos was in chains. Which meant no animals could be sacrificed to the gods. This angered the gods, who made Sisyphus' life so miserable with pain and illness that he would beg for death. And so he released Thanatos.
But then came the second time Sisyphus cheated death. As he was dying, he asked his wife to dump his naked corpse in the middle of the public square. Denied a proper burial, his soul ended up on the far side of the river Styx, unable to cross.
He complained to Hades and Persephone about how his wife disrespected him, and begged them to let him return briefly to the world of the living to scold her and make her bury him properly. They agreed, and Sisyphus returned to life. He then embraced his wife, and refused to return to the Underworld.
It's only when he finally died of old age that he was sent to Tartarus and punished with the boulder.
I don't remember where I've seen it, but I like the interpretation that Sisyphus doesn't have to push the boulder. He can choose to stay in Tartarus and rest. But he was promised that if he managed to push the boulder to the top of the mountain, he'll ascend to Elysium.
And Sisyphus, in his stubbornness and cleverness, refuses to give up on a challenge.
One must indeed imagine Sisyphus happy, planning and scheming about how he'll cheat the gods next.
