After everything that happened, Peter will never be truly happy again.

There might be moments when he can laugh, and there might be moments that feel light but he is forever changed. He will sit at a table with his friends who became family and the sun will shine and he will know that this is the best he has felt in a long long time. But he will know that it’s not as happy as he used to be; he knows that the world will never be the same again, at least not his world. His laugh will forever sound hollow, as if something is missing. His smile will forever look exhausted, as if he tries to have a break but knows, he will have to go back to work in a bit. His eyes will forever look sad, all the things he saw too young forever carved into his face. He tries to find peace. But he knows that the kid he was when he felt peace for the last time is dead and will never come back.

The Avengers were not to be trusted.

Peter Parker knew this. Had been taught it. It was ingrained into his skin and he was sure that of all the lies Hydra taught him, this one just might be true.

But he was sat in a booth, unchained and unharmed, being given a sandwich and fries like it was totally normal by this rag tag group of enhanced.

Well, not everyone was enhanced.

He looked at the food in front of him as if it could be poison. He wouldn’t put it past them, a few of them were spies and all of them hated Hydra. He doesn’t blame them though, that’s why he left himself.

“We ordered you something plain, hope that’s okay,” Steve said, taking his seat and handing out the food to everyone. Peter didn’t acknowledge him, just opened the bread to see what was inside.

Plain was a bit of an understatement. There was just chicken. No salad, no sauce. He felt like he was back on rations at the northern base.

“No pickles?” Peter asked. He liked pickles. It was one of the only foods he knew he liked.

Steve raised an eyebrow, looking between everyone’s food. “Did you want pickles?” He asked. Peter gave a sharp nod, hard eyes burning into Steve’s but he didn’t seem to mind. Everyone was painfully polite to him despite them not having any reason to be.

Well, all of them except for Stark.

“Tony, yours has pickles. Would you mind swapping?” Steve asked. He didn’t seem very sure of himself. He probably noticed that Tony didn’t like him, Peter thought.

But without an ounce of hesitation, Tony swapped the sandwiches and began digging into the plain chicken one. Peter watched his face contort slightly; it had to have been very dry and tasteless.

Peter looked down. “You swapped them,” he said.

“Yeah?”

“But there’s no benefit to you?” Peter asked.

Tony shrugged. “Should’ve asked what you wanted instead of ordering for you,” he says as if that justifies his actions.

Peter looks back down at his new sandwich, smooshes it down nice and flat and takes a bite. It’s perfect. He turns back to Tony.

“If you ever need someone killed or something stolen, let me know.”

Tony nearly chokes on his food.

Spider-Man’s Webshooters Mean Something

Everyone knows the classic story of Spider-Man, regular smart cocky guy Peter Parker was bit by a radioactive spider and through the loss of his Uncle Ben decided to become Spider-Man.

But what if I told you the symbology was there the whole time right under our noses, hiding behind the classic quote, “With great power comes great responsibility”.

The Webshooters. Think about it, that spider bite gave him strength (the standard set of superhuman abilities), the ability to stick to walls, and a sense of danger. But other animals have those abilities too like lizards, ants, bees, or even scorpions. But the webs? Those were all Peter, he chose to be a Spider, he chose not to be a lizard or an ant, or anything else.

The Webshooters represent the choice to become Spider-Man, him taking the responsibility of being a Spider. And sure the in universe reason he did it was because he was bitten by a radioactive spider, but if it just gives him the webs, then it kind of takes away the responsibility. It forces him into being a Spider, it puts responsibility on his plate.

So if he doesn’t have organic webs then he decided to take responsibility rather than have it given to him. It isn’t like the Captain America’s shield or Mjolnir, the webs are a choice that Peter makes, and at the end of the day, Spider-Man is about the choice to be a hero.

(Yes the suit can function similarly in symbology, but as I said earlier, if he was given the webs through the spider bite then he has less of a choice in being Spider-Man)

my thoughts on the final trailer

I fucking LOVE that they included all the snippets from the other movies. It shows that the writers hopefully know their character and it also gives me the feeling of memories coming back, especially since it’s alongside Peter giving the speech that he hoped would make MJ and Ned remember (so my hopes are that it’s a hint that MJ and Ned are gonna remember him)

”I promised you that I would keep you safe” finally there’s something for MJ to notice that something’s going on (regarding the them forgetting Peter thing) because if Spider-Man had promised her to keep her safe she would know.

THE LAST SCENE OMG. I hope sm wth is means that were getting Ned and Peter back! Also I love Spidey’s humor lol

someone must have tracked spider man’s patrol times and figured out he’s in school during the school hours. someone MUST have. and then the spell happens and he doesn’t have school anymore, so he can patrol anytime.

peter parker, swinging through a patrol trying to distract himself from the fact that his classmates are graduating today and he is not. Someone on the street who knows damn well that usually he doesn’t patrol during the day time and has been recently putting two and two together and taking a blind stab at it. Shouting up at him as he swings by.

“Congrats, Spidey!”

It’s the only congrats he gets. It hurts worse than getting none.

peter parker finds comfort in clutter, he can’t help but keep junk and torn clothes and broken furniture and books from several grades ago and broken laptops and tech he fished out of the dumpster. shit that people left on the street that probably has mold and bugs or wood rot or rat shit.

he used to go thrift shopping with may. she never saw a piece of furniture that she didn’t “see potential” in. (this extended to people. to places. she was always so generous. her bleeding heart. her moral mission.) anyways. so while he grew up poor, he’s never lived in a home that wasn’t cozy with things.

he’s never felt so much discomfort as when he moved into his shitty apartment with nothing that couldn’t fit into a cardboard box.

but whatever.

it’s got potential.

Tony stark, who never particularly cared for what furniture he has around, finds the thrifting from the salvation army and dumpster diving.. quite interesting.

He tries offering money to the Parkers, god knows he has quite a few lying around.

But of course, the moral mission.

May fiercely turns down every single offer he made — from replacing the worn down couch in her living room ("what's wrong with that? Ben always loved sitting in it."), to paying for some of her groceries because with Peter's increased appetite from the Bite, that kid can eat ("Tony, he's my nephew. I can afford — thank you for letting me know about this."), to fortify her apartment unit better ("I've Spider-Man under my roof, I don't think I need laser beams here, Tony.").

Once he notices Peter's red flush at each of these, it finally clicks to Tony that he's treating them like a charity case. And winces to himself.

He changes lanes afterwards.

He keeps Peter in the lab for long hours, usually sending him home after dinner with the leftovers because who's going to eat it here, underoos? and keeping track of May's schedule so that Peter's at the Tower when she's on night shift such that the kid never spends an alone night in the apartment.

Time. Effort. Someone to look after her precious reason that kept her moving after losing Ben.

None of it compares to money.

Tony has always known it. The Parkers reinforced it.
