Being a crafty person and making a bunch of things often prompts people to ask "oh wow did you make that?" And like, the short answer is: yes I did, but the long answer is: well, no, the pattern isn't mine, but I did choose and buy the fabric/yarn and sewed it together/crocheted it/knitted it myself. I used a reference for that drawing/painting, I didn't come up with it myself. That ceramic piece was insired by a poem and a painting made by different people. What I'm trying to say is, everything I make requires other people to make their own thing first, and then I get inspired by them to do my own thing. So I can't really call anything truly mine, because really it's just a bunch of inspirations and experiences of others (and me) put together by my hands. Does that answer your question
this skull took a long time to carve but I think it was worth the effort. I’ve never carved one quite so realistic before

Say Hello To The 'Glam Garden Wrap' Designed By Suraya Rina Hossain: 👉 https://buff.ly/FrfVfej - it's designed to use 24 mini-skeins in colours of your choosing 💜
Pretty!
I bet that could be a lot of fun as a woven project too. Like, pointed twill threading, and a lot of different treadling patterns.
Like this! All the same threading and tie up, but with treadling...
Very neat.

(about this guy)
a kiln god is a small clay sculptural creature that stays on/in/near a kiln while it’s firing, to watch over the pottery inside and protect it
mine are all vaguely humanoid and holding pottery, but they can be anything
a lot of people leave their kiln gods unglazed, and only ever make one or two. because I work with a shared kiln, my kiln gods have to be inside the kiln so they don’t get bumped or broken, so it makes more sense to glaze them and keep making more
(^this one I kept, she lives on my pottery desk)
people have lots of little traditions around kilns and pottery. there are so many variables to successfully finishing a piece of pottery, and many of the steps are out of our control. it’s nice to have a kiln god watching over our work
if you take a pottery class, your teacher might mention the kiln gods. for some potters/studios they’re more of a concept than anything physical
what can I say, humans just love to make little guys

Here we go again. Doing the feet tomorrow.
Headed back to creepy town.
Sculpting the feet and tail from Cosclay, a flexible polymer clay.
Covering his sinful nakedness.
Beefing up the boy.
Continuing to refine the shape + starting to plan markings before I switch to the nice wool for the topcoat.
Will also be blending a greyer brown.
WHO IS SHE
Got the basic form done. I feel like I can further refine it during the topcoat phase with the nice wool and final colors (this brown is a bit dark). He is still a bit scrappy and I'd like a bit more floof.
Also going to redo the ears, if I have time.
Those white patches are not markings, btw -- I had to shave down a little bulk. They will get covered up in the next phase.
Tonight's rat progress is all fiber prep. I have blended a variety of whites (merino, alpaca, and a little angora) for a more complex top coat - I don't want a brilliant white.
Once the brown alpaca fleece dries, I'll be able to blend it with some greys, browns, and tans to get the color I want for the rest of the coat.
You all knew he was nakey this entire time, right?
Laying in the topcoat is a bit tricky because the fibers are so fine (I had to be extra, lol). What you do is measure a piece a little over 2x the length you want, place on the body, poke a line down the center, fold over the fiber, then reinforce a line at the fold. Smooth down and shape with scissors. Then, progressively move up the body in the direction fur would grow in.
When I'm done, I might hit him with a bit of hairspray to help with the flyaways.
Putting him aside for a few days because I am waiting on some grey alpaca fiber for the brown mix.
Would a rat wear pants like this, or....?
My final fiber arrived ahead of schedule yesterday, just in time for a neighborhood power outage due to a line going down. But I was able to blend the brown topcoat and am now over halfway done laying in the fur.
Several different rats have played Vonolel in the current All Creatures Great & Small TV show, but I did mostly copy one specific rat's markings, with a few minor tweaks. Let's see if anyone ends up guessing the episode.
Tomorrow should be the final update! I just need to finish the fur, and then it's all the little details to get him to really come to life. :)
I still need to set the whiskers, clean up flyaways and stray fiber, and do some miscellaneous tweaks, but this post is long enough, so let's consider Vonolel done. :)
I learned a lot with this lil' guy - my 5th needle felting piece and first I did without a kit. Made a lot of mistakes, too. But I'm going to cut myself some slack.
Here's everything I have felted to date. It's been a rare craft where my hands don't hurt at all, save for a few needle pokes and one unfortunate scissors snip.
Thanks so much for coming on this journey with me. Vonolel is now ready for some Dragoncon adventures in just over a week!
He looks incredible!
