The character is my oc Isidore Toller from my fanfiction What You Deserve!
Sometimes, whumpee secretly resents being rescued. They'd finally adapted, come to terms with everything and gotten good at living within the constraints whumper set. Now they have to do it all over again, with everyone insisting that this is better for them. And this time, they're expected to be grateful for it.
Niki has hyperacusis, a condition that makes sound not just loud, but genuinely painful. For him, the world is constant sensory overload, every sharp noise hitting harder than it should. Which makes it all the more horrifying that the very people using him know exactly how vulnerable he is… because holding something as simple as a horn against his ear isn’t just cruel intimidation for Niki. It’s agony. And the worst part? The same painfully sensitive hearing they exploit is exactly what makes him so valuable to them in the first place.

Jesse, eventually!!! He isn't exactly intentional about it but he can definitely be androgynous and will some day, when he has the space to think about who he is and who he wants to be in his own body, he'll consider himself to be agender more than anything. He'll happily wear skirts with his oversized sweaters and pretty scarves and he'll find the wonders of eye shadow and mascara and, when his hair isn't wild and free, he'll do it up really pretty sometimes 😍
He'll still go by he/him pronouns because that feels as correct as anything else he supposes. But he'll play with masculinity and femininity in equal measure and finds them both to be tools of expression more than any kind of identifying way to be.
He becomes very open and casual about style and just so free in how he wants to be seen in the world 🥰 one lovely thing about Jesse is that he doesn't really have a sense of the way society maybe thinks he should present himself as a man. He doesn't understand nor does he care to try. Jesse simply wants to be, as he sees fit, and have the freedom to do so. And Mark did a great job encouraging him to find his own self identity and means of personal expression 🥹

rereading the collared scene and !!! Ugh it’s my favorite. Out of curiosity- what did the captain say that Quinn couldn’t make out? Before “you hear me boy?”

I never actually wrote what the captain said did I!? 🤣 I was very much in Quinn's head when writing that so I didn't fully hear it I suppose! (Writing is such a strange process lol it's so crazy how I can't seem to pull out the exact words!) But he said something along the lines of the crew deserving something for suffering such a betrayal and them taking that payment from Quinn on his back. The men whooped and moaned at the realization of what they were about to be given permission to do.
And that's also when Collins first realized the captain's intentions and spoke up just that tiny little bit. He could have stopped it right then and there if he'd just had the courage to disobey his captain 🥺
