okay so peter is tom holland’s peter parker. that is the faceclaim and the spins is canon to the mcu, specifically post-no way home, so this is still very much that peter and everything that happened to him in those movies happened here too.

BUT personality and general vibe wise, i do mix a little andrew garfield peter into him because i wanted him slightly grittier and rougher around the edges, plus the skateboarding and the baggier clothes and that whole particular brand of peter parker. so visually he is tom holland, but like styled more like a broke skater kid who’s wardrobe comes from thrift stores, donation bins etc.

and also i absolutely reserve the right to pull whatever trauma, character detail, comic lore, suit feature, bad coping mechanism, or deeply upsetting piece of spider-man history i want from literally any spider-man media i happen to like, and once i put it in the fic it is canon to me. movies, comics, cartoons, video games, another peter’s deeply unfortunate life event, i am taking what i want. this is my little post-no way home spider-man blender and my poor baby peter has not suffered enough. sooo…

and then there is gio, which is where this gets slightly harder to explain because yes, angus cloud as fezco is his direct faceclaim, but i am also very obviously pulling from fez as a character too. his voice, some of his mannerisms, etc, all of that is definitely part of the foundation for gio.

and like ash is literally in the story too, so the euphoria influence is not exactly hidden or subtle here.

but they are also not just fez and ash picked up out of euphoria and plopped completely unchanged into the mcu. their history is different, their situation is different, and their place in this universe is different. and gio in particular has some other marvel influences mixed into what i am doing with him for reasons that i am currently refusing to explain because i have something planned that i am extremely excited about.

so like i guess the spins is technically crossover-adjacent? a fusion? me taking mcu peter, fez, ash, several different versions of spider-man, and whatever else i decide belongs there and just smooshing all of it together until it becomes canon specifically to me?

anyway. these are the visuals. this is the logic. please do not ask me to draw a clean line between the source materials because there is not one.

also the title of the story is 100% based on “the spins” by mac miller because that song is just 100,000% a vibe. not particularly the vibe of this fic rn, but definitely a vibe lmao. and idk it just worked in my brain.

spiderman brand new day and the importance of care. mj not loving peter due to not knowing him, but still caring about him enough to invite him up, to draw him, to send frank to watch him, to give him advice and be concerned. ned not remembering what spiderman means to him, but trying to find him anyway to thank him. frank worrying about this kid who is determined to save everybody he possibly could. peter caring about jean grey, taking a bullet for her despite almost all his interactions with her being antagonistic, because she exists, and she deserves so much better. jean crying over peter getting shot, because he was kind and promised to be there for her and made good on that promise immediately, even though she ended up there because of him. new york and their care for spidey.

peter parker and his care for everybody- his family, his friends, people he has never met, people who have continually tried to hurt him.

Remember in Thunderbolts when Yelena confessed to Alexei that she felt so alone and drepressed. That the only things she was able to do was going to work, stare at her phone and think about all the bad things she has done.

In the intro the Brand New Day we see Peter going full SpiderMan mode (working), stalking Ned on his social media (staring at his phone) and constantly visiting May's grave (thinking about the bad things he has done).

Black Widows were trained to easily read people, so the moment Peter walked into Yelena's "office" she clocked the same depression that tormented her for so long. Her comment about him being a "sad man" wasn't thrown randomly, she knew that it was true.

That is why she was geniuly happy when she saw him with friends; because it was having friends what ended up saving her and she truly believed that it could save Peter too. She was right.

people are confused “unsolicited criticism in fanfics is rude” with “fanfics are above criticism.” no one says fanfics are above criticism. what we’re saying is that, unless an author specifically asks for feedback and criticism, unsolicited criticism is rude, because unlike anything else that you pay to consume and therefore can rightfully be criticized, fanfics are free and they are someone’s hobby. authors are kind enough to share what they write as their hobbies with you for free. you don’t have to like these fics. you can click away from a fic you don’t like at any point you want. but—again, unless specifically and directly asked by an author—it’s rude to tell someone, who is kind enough to allow you free access to their house, their art, that their fics should have been xyz.

so no, fanfics are not above criticism. just like how a gift someone gives you is not above criticism.

but giving fanfics unsolicited criticism is rude. just like how it’s rude to tell someone that you don’t like the gift they gives you for free, out of kindness.
