I watched this documentary once about drinking culture in the UK and in it there was a doctor who was emphasizing how alcohol is a known carcinogen and drinking too often has these health risks.

She also admitted that she drinks alcohol more than the recommended amount.

Like somebody trying to inform you about what you’re doing isn’t always a demand that you change your ways. You can choose to do something that’s bad for you. You can choose to do something that’s mean or inefficient or boring or rude or whatever other negative descriptor. You’re just going to experience the consequences of doing that. And sometimes people will try to inform you of the possible consequences. That’s not automatically an attack on you.

I know it’s difficult to tell the difference sometimes. There are people who will demand that you change your ways for no good reason. But there’s also people who will tell you “hey sticking your tongue to that pole will make it freeze in place” and they’re not here to try and stop you from sticking your tongue to that pole. They’re just making sure you’re informed about what you’re doing. You can still choose to get your tongue stuck to that pole.

I had a classmate in community college who was borderline illiterate because he grew up in rural Mexico on a family farm and had only began reading and writing around age 16. He was sweet, and determined, and severely behind in every measurable way.

We had an assignment together and we could barely get through it. It was brutal. But he did it and we got a B. He eventually passed the class. He had more determination in 1 finger than the entire rest of my class seemed to. And he changed my fucking perspective! I thought I was set up to fail by society and bro hadn’t even read a book until after he learned to operate farm equipment. And there both of us were climbing the same ladder together.

This made me think of him. This just seems unnecessary and cruel. What exactly am I supposed to be laughing at here? Explain the joke

You know, there's this cliché that teenage boys always eat massive amounts, but teenage girls really aren't that different if they're not suppressed by diet culture and body shaming. Like, I was a teenage girl who frankly just stopped bothering to fit into mainstream beauty ideals at some point, and I would regularly make myself just one big massive pot of pasta and devour it completely. This wasn't even stress eating or anything, I just genuinely needed the energy because you know, I was a teenager and my body was developing. I feel like so many teenage girls think they need to eat as little as possible to be petite and pretty, but the truth is that your body is developing just as intensely as teenage boys' bodies. Eat more, please, your body needs it.

It is true that people in fandom equate top bottom with dom sub and probably mean the latter when they "headcanon" the former but I also think people need to be more open to the idea that D/s doesn't necessarily get indicated from personality either. Like for example a shy person who gets pushed around easily very well might enjoy having a dominant role with a partner they trust. That can even be affirming. Like BECAUSE of this issue you have in your real life to feel like someone will submit to YOU and defer to YOU is special for example. I think the idea that you just play the role that suits your personality in real life is part of why these same people seem to genuinely think being a Dom is like, kind of bad and scary

My boyfriend went to get some groceries on bike - more for the exercise than out of need, as we both hate doing exercise for no other reason than for the sake of doing it - and as soon as he got outside it started absolutely pouring. And my boyfriend, he's the human version of those huskies who happily nap face down in a pile of snow on the yard while refusing to come back inside. And he fucking loves rain. He's got this green rain cloak that he likes, but he would've been just as happy out there without it. He's not built to live indoors, keeping him in a city apartment regularly feels like keeping a wolverine as an inside pet.

So he was cycling, in what as far as he is concerned is unironically the best possible weather, getting to the store. And while he was locking his bike, some old lady first glanced at him with concern, and on a second glance took her own bike and got the fuck out of there. And at this point my boyfriend realised that due to loving the weather, he was smiling, really grinning like an idiot, beaming pure joy. And as he doesn't really smile a lot, he's not used to making that facial expression, so in hindsight he was going around looking like this:
