Seeing as I am currently obsessed with the Mighty Nein, it's time to cross it over with my long-term hyperfixation, Percy Jackson.
Note; this is written in such a way that you should be able to read it even if you don't know the Mighty Nein. Maybe. Idk for sure :3
(I am only on ep15 from the campaign, so my knowledge heavily comes from the show, TikTok/Tumblr, the Webtoon, wikis, and ao3)
So. First order of matter: Gaea as Trent Ikithon. Just so you know :)
Sammy knows power. For as long as he can remember he's been reading, learning, casting. He'd help his father with the mending fences, his mother with cooking. He was learning.
Gaea. The woman dripped gold like she did power. He was given a palm, an opportunity, to grow, to serve, to matter. He took it, of course.
He met two others, like him, a girl called Calypso and a boy named Apollo. (Canonically, Caleb, Astrid and Eadwulf are romantic. Here, it's definitely not. I just didn't know who else to put. So. ToA trio.)
Where their peers fail, they excell. They pass further. They impress Gaea, where others disappoint. They get chosen.
Being infused with Styx' water hurts, but the three of them bear it, eager to please, to serve, to grow.
The fire in him is raging, able to react at a moment's thought, it's so, so powerful.
And then, the final test.
They've been taught to be ruthless towards traitors. Any who serve the old gods are to be slain.
Calypso and Apollo don't hesitate. He doesn't either. Only once it happens, once Hephaestus and Esperanza and his pet, Festus, all burn, does he break.
Sammy dies with his parents.
He has many names, after that. They don't mean anything, for a while.
Not until Leo Valdez is born.
Not until he meets Nott the Brave in a prison cell for petty theft. (I have no idea for a fake name for her, okay?? I struggled with Sammy enough)
She had a mother, Marie. She had a mentor who taught her magic, Hecate. And she was okay. Sure, the other kids bullied her. But she was okay. With her small family, she was happy.
And then, their village is attacked.
"Please." She begs their captors, after days spent in a cage. "My mother. She's old and sick and frail. Please let us go."
Eventually, it works. Their saviour pretends that they're not that. They drop the key, seemingly by accident, and she's left to save them herself.
The alarm gets raised as they're in the woods.
"Take her!" She tells Hecate. "Get my mother to safety!"
She takes a knife and buys them time. In that moment, she's ready to die.
And she does. Hazel Levesque dies.
What's born from that is an ugly, monstrous thing. She drows and awakes cursed by Alcynoeus.
Nott the Brave, a faun, spends far too long as complacent, serving the clan, repeating that which had been done to her.
When she's finally brave enough and runs, she spends her days wandering between villages, stealing, doing odd jobs and getting drunk.
Until one day, in a dingy prison cell, she finds a purpose again. She finds hope. She finds a chance.
"Hello, Leo Valdez. I'm Nott the Brave."
Annabeth Chase would like to think she's smart. She sees a lot of things she doesn't think most notice. She could help the Chase business thrive.
But no. Because some hag told her mother (in this case I'm thinking specifically of Annabeth's stepmother) that one day she would humble her, whatever that meant.
So now, she had an absent mother who wouldn't listen to her.
And maybe she wasn't as smart as she thought. Stealing from her mother and reselling things illegally probably wasn't the best move, but she was just so angry. Maybe, she had hoped this would make her finally see her.
It didn't matter much, anyway. Because she moved from stealing to far worse crimes, and it felt freeing. For a moment she wasn't Annabeth Chase. She was just Annie.
She met Rachel, and for the first time in a while she felt seen. Until she and Rachel were actually seen, and caught doing criminal activity. They got arrested. She knew that her mother tried to bribe Rachel into abandoning her. She knows the girl refused. She never found out what happened to her after that, just that her own bail was paid and Rachel's was not.
Her mother had the Order of Prometheus train her, she regularly got into arguments with her trainers who were incompetent, you know, life.
Until she found some weird substance. Until she discovered the corruption. Until the Order, or specifically a section called Camp Halfblood turned from a place of books to one of action.
She was given a mission. She was given a purpose.
She would not fail Expositor Athena.
Frank was a lonely child. The other kids at the Orphanage never really accepted him, throwing cruel words and hits. The Headmaster never stopped them, either.
The first time he felt he had someone, was when the ship arrived in Port Damali. When the Captain looked at him.
He didn't hesitate to join, even when Octavian, the worst of the kids also chose to work on the ship.
He worked hard. Slowly, he earned respect, moving up, doing more, proving himself worthy.
And the Captain saw him. She mentored him herself, teaching him how to fight, believing in him even when he didn't believe in himself.
Life was good. Even Octavian mostly ignored him, except for the occasional jab.
Then he caught Octavian holding a fuse to the ship's cargo. He tried. He tried so damn hard to save everyone.
But he was too weak. Octavian wounded him and escaped from the ship. He was left trying to get to the Captain, to warn her in time.
He failed. The ship blew up and he was drowning.
And then, something appeared in the water.
Something that told him to learn. To consume.
A thing of blood and violence and war.
He woke up on the shore, alone.
He grieved. He gathered his things. He left.
He didn't know what had happened. He didn't know what to do, now that his life went up in flames.
Not until he met a girl in the city. Until something in him clicked, and he fought like he never did before. Until Tristan McLean begged him to take his girl to safety.
Piper was a lonely kid. But that was okay! She had her dad, who was an exceptional actor and loved her. She didn't have a mom, but that was okay! Her dad was enough. And sure, she wasn't allowed outside their house, but her dad didn't have to know about her breaking those rules.
He also didn't have to know about Aphrodite, her best friend.
Her... only friend. She was a goddess, wasn't that cool! And sure, maybe she wasn't one of the accepted gods to be worshipped, but she was Piper's goddess, and her friend!
And Aphrodite, she showed Piper the world. She learned what it meant to live.
Maybe, just maybe she got into trouble. But it was fun, and Aphrodite always got her out of it. She learned a lot, too. How to charm people, how to appear as someone else entirely, how to cause mischief.
Until one day, she takes a trick to far.
She pisses of the wrong person.
There isn't a trick that will get her out of this.
Not until she meets Frank.
She has to leave anyway. But maybe with Frank she won't be alone.
But why won't Aphrodite answer her?
Percy doesn't remember a lot. He knows that the circus found him having dug himself out of the dirt, cataconic, repeating "Empty" over and over again.
He doesn't want to think about that.
His name is Perseus Jackson, Percy for short, he's travelling with the circus, he has friends, he has a life.
Fuck whoever lived in his body before. It was his now.
So he travels. He tries to leave every town they visit better than he found it. He reads people and pretends he reads cards. He tries to help the Circus survive.
He owes it to them. He owes it to Chiron, who took him in.
The cards show him death.
He ignores the grey in his hair. He ignores the golden eyes on his body.
His name is Percy Jackson.
Of course it does. The girl with blond hair who picked a fight with the boy in suspenders and his friend fucks everything up. (No they didn't. They didn't do anything. You're just so, so angry)
The Clazmonian Sow, which was meant to help the circus survive went batshit and started killing everyone.
Chiron was dead. Percy had killed him with the man's own sword, Riptide.
He doesn't completely understand what happened, but something in him switched, and suddenly the ocean was roaring in his ears.
And these people who caused it won't shut the fuck up. (They didn't do anything. It was you. You killed him.)
But they manage to get out. They kill the fucking pig, and they go on.
Some asshole assassin called Nemesis (Owelia) tries to kill them. Hell, she almost kills Frank, poisoning the guy. Nott turns out to be smarter than they thought, curing him.
Annabeth and Leo have some fun questioning Nemesis, right until Leo crashes out.
It sure is fun learning your new friend was an assassin who killed his parents.
Not that Percy has a problem with that. Gods know what kind of person he was before all this. Everyone deserves a second chance.
So they keep moving. Some weird boy called Ethan calls him Poseidon and then Kronos. They get a job from some Hercules guy. Annabeth and Leo make up. Frank does some weird shit and saves all of them.
They go their separate ways. Annabeth gets paid time off and fails to get a date. Piper and Nott destroy a church. Frank tries to learn what's up with his god and fails. He finds out that whatever Poseidon/Kronos and Ethan were involved in was weird, blood-themed cult shit. Leo almost dies.
You know. Normal everyday things.
So they decide to fuck with Gaea. Why not, honestly?
They don't exactly fail per-se, but the plan definitely goes to shit.
Piper who was meant to go inside and distract Calypso doesn't because of some asshole called Drew. Of all people, Annabeth takes her place.
Some guy called Luke tries to kill him. Percy still has no idea what happened, but he lost control for a second and Luke straight up evaporated.
According to Nott, Leo almost rejoins Gaea. That is before, of course, the weird things in insectoid armour attack them.
And before the blond boy begs them to save him.
Jason doesn't really remember a life outside Rome. He knows his old clan is dead. He knows Rome took him in. He knows Jupiter took him in.
That day he swore to himself he'd become as strong as he could.
Jupiter is the only parent he remembers having. Jason Grace is the only name he remembers having.
He knows there must have been something before that.
He trained. He grew stronger. He grew perfect.
Jupiter had convinced him that he had been chosen by the gods, that he was special, that he had a role to play.
Everything changed when Rome welcomed a new girl into the tribe. Her name was Reyna.
At first, she was no one. Just someone for him to beat.
And he did so. With ease.
The first time. The Second. The Tenth. The Twentieth.
She kept coming to challenge him. And eventually, she started to win.
Jason didn't know what to think of what he had felt.
And then, they were both chosen to be marked.
It was painful. So, so painful.
But he and Reyna found themselves in the forest. They hunted together. Kept watch whilst the other slept. They survived.
He learned that being a leader meant to rely on others.
Being with Reyna made him stronger.
Jupiter didn't see it that way. He claimed Reyna had a different destiny. She argued.
She didn't know him like Jason did. She wasn't trained into loyalty from youth like he was.
Reyna was killed for her love.
And Jason broke. He didn't know what he did, exactly. He knows there is far too much blood on his hands, though.
For a while, he just wandered the world, empty, without a purpose, drowning in grief.
That was how Lupa found him. She offered an out. She offered to take control over his body so he wouldn't have to keep living.
He's been wandering the world since then. Killing people, serving a deity with a plan. He's commited such atrocities.
At first, he was angry, angry at his loss and wanting the world to feel it too.
Now. Now it's just regret.
It doesn't matter anymore. His body isn't his. He had no choice.
Not until he found himself in the sewers, having killed a soldier and looking at six travellers.
"Please help me." He begged.
Kinda unrelated but Essek is 100% Nico, I just can't be bothered writing that.
Extra points that didn't fit with the narration but I wanna point out:
Hazel is Nott because both of them have their curses. Like the goblin thing vs cursed riches. Also, bc there aren't really goblins in PJO i settled for a faun bc of how they were treated in CJ
Beau and Annabeth are both humans without any cool powers, just their brain and smarts.
Making Molly Percy is hilarious to me, bc [SPOILER!!!! ]
Molly dies pretty early in the campaign. Meanwhile Percy is like THE main character who isn't allowed to die lmao.
Some other concepts I've considered, before settling for this version, for further exploration:
Fjord as Percy, due to their connection to water. Fairly obvious I'd say.
Caleb as Percy. I actually got pretty far with this one, but didn't know who to put as Leo. His Astrid and Eadwulf were Ethan and Silena, and it was Kronos instead of Gaea.
Molly as Jason. Amnesia. No further thoughts (or memories).
Yasha as Frank. This was based purely on the 'strong tank' vibes tbh.
Caleb as Annabeth with Kronos as Trent Ikithon. Bc of Luke.
Beauregard as Percy. Vibes, mostly.
Molly as Leo. Personality and vibes. But the backstory didn't make sense.
