i really appreciate your post about pan vs bi and i agree with all of it, and neither bi nor pan is regressive or bad, but i do also feel as though the label of pansexual was Created because of that misunderstanding of bi, and i wanted to know if you have an opinion on that? and navigating pan v bi with that in mind? coming from someone who previously id'ed as pan and is now.. confused
I’ll reiterate that pan has its unique experiences that might lead to someone identifying as bi vs pan, and I feel that in the beginning it did take a while for people to understand why “hearts not parts” as the slogan for pansexuality was not super great, but i also know that for some people pansexuality does more accurately describes someone’s orientation, in that bi; i like these toppings on my pizza vs pan; i like pizza, pan being that someone’s experience with gender doesn’t affect the way you’re attracted to them, vs bi is ‘actually. hold up. i like most genders, but it is important to me bc i do exclude certain people from my dating pool based on their experience with gender’
in this way i feel that many identities outside of bi are summarized as bisexual, and it’s important to every person to determine where their need for a different label comes from, and if it comes from, 'this is more accurate to me’ vs 'this is better because insert common biphobic rhetoric here’
I think that in some ways that this is similar to discussions about lesbianism right now, and how some people argue that they are bi because they are attracted to nonbinary people, vs lesbians saying that their sexuality included nonbinary people as well, which goes into 'bi lesbian’ territory and discussions of it that i am not taking asks or questions about, and anything about that discussion will be deleted, much like asks about ace discourse.
if anyone reading the above statement feels the need to come to my inbox, please, i politely request that you don’t. the important thing to know that among everything ive said, ive tried to make it clear that im not going to attack, or invalidate anyone on a basis on their lived experiences, especially if those experiences themselves aren’t harmful to others.
it is just something that I would like to recuse myself from, because in whatever I say, i have a large platform, and a significant portion of people will draw conclusions about my morals at best, and flood my inbox with suicide baiting at worst. it’s my personal right to make the decision to not to expose myself to that, and if you feel i am required to be a martyr for something that plenty of other people are talking about besides me, please log off and think about the outside world for a little bit.
