I spent so much of my life struggling with being biracial and queer not because I didn’t know who I was, but because everyone around me felt the need to give their opinion about what I “really was.” And I didn’t grow out of that perception of myself until I was an adult.

Children are sponges, they will internalize the things you tell them. So what if they get it wrong once or twice. That’s what being a human is. Allowing them to authentically explore themselves will serve them in the future, in ways that have everything and nothing to do with personal identity.
