love that part in worm when danny's like "hey taylor I know the city just exploded 500 times and then flooded and then exploded some more but do you want to the most 'asking for a villain to show up' event ever with every important political person there?" and then she says yes even though she was literally the villain showing up at the last event. and then a villain shows up. and then it explodes. and somehow everyone is surprised by this.

Charles Abrams is the sopping wet guy, I'd say. John Stiles is more than a little wet but also extremely cool.
There's a few manipulative chessmaster types, though most prominently Alexander Belanger and Abraham Musser, and maybe Lawrence Bristow if you're weird.
I might be mistaken in the definition of a Tumblr Sexyman, but I've always categorized Monty as one (positive)
Dude is eternally tortured by his own existence as a literal horror of blood and spider limbs but he's just SUCH a gentleman about it and he's dashing when we get to truly see him in his suit
That fits perfectly within my definition of tumblr sexyman as well (being A Horror, not just suffering from the horrors, but also being Kind. Blake is/becomes this p much).

my advice to you is to never waste your time trying to fit into a club or hobby or any community who makes you beg for acceptance and approval just to participate when you could do the alternative—get involved in a niche and endangered hobby run primarily by old people.
i wanted to learn how to hunt ruffed grouse and train bird dogs so i sent an email to my local chapter of the ruffed grouse society explaining that getting into wildlife groups is intimidating to me because I’m trans
and all they saw was that someone under 60 wanted to learn to hunt grouse & several months into my mentorship I was told that like 7 old guys argued over me until they had to pick a number between 1 and 100 to decide who got to personally mentor me.
imagine vying for the acceptance of some gatekeeping weirdos when your mere interest could be inciting verbal combat among retirees
my mentor was so sweet & funny too. he suggested we meet over lunch first so he could tell me about what to expect before we got started & I emailed back “I’m ready to get started right away!”
and he said “I was actually suggesting lunch first for your comfort on the assumption you wouldn’t want to get together with a man you’ve never met, in the woods with a gun.”
Like, I trusted him because of the referrals I got from one of my professors but like, right you are sir fair enough. Lunch it is.

Just went to a dye workshop run primarily by women aged 50-80.
They were DELIGHTED to see young adults interested in the art, and I got sent home with a PILE of dyes, chemicals, and expensive yarns to practice dying on. I was invited by each of them on different times throughout the event to please come to their new years workshop too.
Like, unanimous welcome. I don’t know most of their names, but I know they want to see me again.

I do genuinely love Verona actually. She thinks she’s way smarter than she is and is unfailingly arrogant about it. She loves doing the practitioner doublespeak lying-while-telling-the-truth thing so much that it actively is a detriment to her life and yet she continues. Out of the trio she’s the one who just genuinely loves learning for the sake of learning and magic for the sake of magic more, which makes her fascinating to read because she’s so interested in everything thats going on (except when she isn’t. Either 110% interest or 0%). She never compromises on what she wants out of life no matter what. Her neuros have diverged significantly and she truly could not give two shits. She only feels negative emotions once a week and it physically cripples her. I have so many thoughts and yet can articulate none. Maybe one day. Anyway absolutely the favourite of the three and honestly she’s the one who makes the most sense to me. I can fully see where she’s coming from and where she’s going. the real wb work that should get a comics adaptation is twig and I'm being so serious. rationale to follow
worm is already actually good and twig is not, so it's a case of having a lot to lose vs only the potential to gain
worm works really well as a novel because taylor is, as a narrator, extremely in her own head. there's large segments of worm where, from an outside PoV, taylor is just standing there quietly, but internally a lot of interesting things are happening. she's really a character that's best when you're getting her mental monologues vs just trying to extrapolate from the external actions that would be drawn in a solely visual medium. sylvester, in contrast, is largely defined by his interactions with the other lambs--much of his internal monologue is extraneous or uninteresting. he would work much better in a visual medium
twig's worldbuilding is pretty uninteresting/unconvincing in wildbow's writing format but would be really fun in a visual medium. lot of awesome visuals to adapt there
worm is so good in large part Because it's sprawling and you spend a massive amount of time getting wholly invested in taylor's viewpoint as her life winds and changes, twig would be fine getting chunked up into shorter more episodic bits (and was supposed to be that way anyway before wildbow fucked it up real bad)

theres already a lot of parts in twig where sylvester just doesnt mention or explain his internal thought process so that it can still be surprising for the reader when it turns out he was lying in xyz way or aiming to do xyz unexpected thing. virtually nothing would be lost in a translation to a visual medium

Sure. I think Twig is just. Better than worm. Of course that's all personal opinion, and I'm not looking to change your mind even a little bit, but I think comic adaptation twig would rock mostly because of how much I like it. I think it's worldbuilding was incredibly interesting and doesn't have much to "gain" from the comic format per-se, aside from just being a fun potential way to interact with the novel, characters, and world. I also feel like it's personally the most fitting to a western style comic. I recognize I have unpopular opinions on the tumblr.com webbed site when it comes to wildbow works. Twig is just by far my favorite of the bunch that I've read. Not a well thought out response but I'm not really great at verbalizing my thoughts on things a lot of the times. Oh well.
this is an extremely alien perspective to me given that twig is my personal evil nemesis but i agree that twig's worldbuilding [under my breath] insofar as it has any would be very good in comic format. i would like to see the whole "during exam season the gutters in [town] literally run red with blood" bit illustrated
You know. Fair. I am completely aware that I'm black sheeping hard lol. Twig is by far my favorite of his works, with Ward as *my* nemesis. (I tried. I really did. But Victoria is just so disinteresting to me that I could not get past like. Arc 4? I can't remember.) I just tend to really like Twig's specific genre and flavor of bodyhorror so it did good things for me, and even though I kind of hated the little bastard, I also really loved Sy. He's the sort of character I wouldn't ever expect to love his family as much as he did but loving his family as much as he did got to me.
you know what i think we can find peace and perhaps alliance because, while i do not like sylvester for his incorrigible (trans)misogyny & homophobia that he narratively never has to meaningfully+permanently grow or change from ever, i do find his Big Ole Lamb Filled Heart extremely endearing. i have 'caring so much about sy and the caterpillars' disease im always posting and writing about those little individuals
We are in complete agreement here. I get so bighearted whenever I see Sy talk about Evette. Like. He loves his family so much that even the family that he never had matters that much to him and just. Love that for them. He is absolutely a transmisogynystic fuckface though. And his bad opinions are just. BAD.
SY'S FEELINGS ABOUT EVETTE IS ONE OF HIS MOST REDEEMING TRAITS YEAH he's literally a good character specifically in the moments where he's being really heartbroken about his aborted twin sister. it's really tragic that this eventually gets twisted into a "sy fakes what is essentially an offensive misrepresentation of DID" arc because the earlier details that are like. "when sy was a kid he was always sleeping on the floor next to the vat w/ evette's corpse + talking to her & ashton 1's vats." are extremely heart-rending and what i wish twig leaned more into. it's the same vibe as when smalljamie talks abt being scared to fall asleep bc sometimes he wakes up right when they're about to throw the switch and there's nothing he can do. twig should spend far more of its time being about the experience of being group-bonded child human experiments !
I think this is where our opinions on it differ. I never saw it as a misrepresentation of DID specifically but more as "Mentally ill drug addled kid who slept on the floor talking to a girl's corpse constantly as if she was real did the natural fucked up little conclusion of creating tulpas in a desperate attempt to let himself be okay." And I honestly thought the route made a lot of sense in following through to that fucked up conclusion. Like. I think he's indistinguishable from that obsession and while I see where the DID thing comes from, I don't feel like that's the intended view of it personally. I do however fully see why a lot of people hate that arc and I don't really fault anyone for that opinion about it. I just don't agree with it really. I think the arc getting twisted into what it did *was* fundamentally related to the experience of being group-bonded child human experiements. But idk, that's just me on it.
