find something to compliment someone for at least 4 times a day. notice the little things about the world that make you happy, and use that to make other people happy.

talk to people. initiate conversation as often as you possibly can. keep your mind busy and you wont have to worry anymore

picture the bad intrusive thoughts in youe head as an edgy 13 year old and tell them to go be emo somewhere else

if someone makes you feel bad most of the time, stop talking to them. making yourself hang out with people who drain you is self harm. stop it.

Personally i went from “guess I’ll die” jokes to “IF I HAVE TO BE HERE FOR 5 MORE MINUTES I PROMISE YOU I WILL BUY JUST, AN ARRAY OF CLOTHES.” and other wild hyperbolic stuff. Just replace the death part with something ridiculous and off topic. Its very entertaining

This also works with calling myself things like stupid, worthless, trash, etc. Even if you do this jokingly to yourself, your brain still believes it, and keeps up the cycle. Seriously, I found that when I stopped saying these things about myself, even jokingly, it made a massive difference.

Here’s a tip I picked up from a friend that’s helped me a lot — replace self deprecating jokes with ironically self aggrandizing jokes

Like every time I trip and fall, instead of saying “l’m just a disaster human” I say “I’m the epitome of grace and beauty”

Or like, when I draw a picture I’m not 100% happy with, instead of saying “my art is trash” I say something like “you know I think it’s time we replaced the Mona Lisa”

When you do that you get to make a joke, but you’re ALSO getting practice building yourself up, y’know?

And eventually it becomes a reflex and you get so used to it that you can say nice stuff about yourself even when you AREN’T joking

The explanation is that liminal spaces are in between places that bridge Here with There, so in fairy tales we often have the Fairy Ring, the Forest Clearing, the Sudden Misty Foggy Forest, the Bridge, the River, graveyards, in some cases

We also have a ton of american urban mythology around famous roadways and sites off the sides of roads

Archetypes like these occur to mark the places in the world where the veil goes thin and humans can have extra-worldly experiences, out of the ordinary way of living

So why wouldn’t transient spaces like rest stops where everyone is just passing through from one place to the next, never stopping for too long, not be a liminal space where spirits frequent, too

Especially since nobody would know if they were real or not

I once slept though three gas stations on a road trip, and the second the car started to slow to turn into a rest stop, I was basically wide awake.

My mom and I were on I-90 in a blizzard once and pulled off at the first exit we could find. Turns out that if we’d gone even a mile further, we would have happened on a 49-and-counting car pileup, and that 90 was closed for MILES. How we found an unblocked ramp was a matter of great debate, but where this gets weirder still is that at the bottom of the ramp was a closed truck stop and an open church full of teenagers–they went for youth group, the blizzard started, and they were stuck until the snow stopped. They fed us leftovers from their potluck dinner, prayed with us for safe travel, and when the snow let up they saw us on our way.

Three days later–Sunday–we were traveling back and decided to stop at that church to thank them. We found it thanks to the truck stop, but this time it was the truck stop that was open and the church that was closed. Neither of us remembered it looking so decrepit on the trip down, and granted we saw it first at night in a snowstorm, but you’d think we’d have noticed the boarded-up windows. So we asked in at the truck stop.

The church had been abandoned for ten years. And yet I still had one of their youth group programs under my sun visor, very clearly labeled for the previous week.

To this day I’m sure we crossed dimensions somewhere on I-90, and that’s how we stayed safe. You could tell me it’s because the truck stop was a liminal space and I’d 100% believe you.

We don’t have rest stops like this in the UK. We have motorway service stations. And they have high street shops, only miles from anywhere, only accessible from the motorway. It’s as if the high street shops are all on a little trip away from their home town and this is as far as they got.

I had to go to a hospital miles and miles away from my home in Japan because the one in my town wasn’t equipped to run the tests I needed. So a friend drove me since the train would have taken hours, and we had to go through these dormant fields on a mostly dirt road. Nothing for miles as far as you could see except for grass and a river. Not even houses or anything. So, at some point as the sun’s rising, her car stalls. Right next to a soda vending machine. In the middle of a field. With no discernible power outlet or power lines or anything. But it’s on. No cell phone reception, either. We pop the hood and I look around, but neither of us know anything, and we’re worried because we haven’t seen another car or bicycle or scooter in ages. 

We think we’re going to be stranded for a long time, so she buys a couple of canned coffees and we sit down in the car to drink them, and suddenly, the dash lights blink back on. We turn the car on, and it’s fine. 

We get on our way, a little weirded out, and I say, “I’ve had a bizarre feeling the whole time we’ve been driving here. It makes sense now.”

And she says, “yeah, I’ll bet there was a spirit there. It wanted an offering, and then let us go. My mom said that can happen where there aren’t any other real shrines or temples around.”

So our liminal space demanded ￥400 before letting us through.

Leo, now that we are so close to season 7 do you have any predictions or things you hope/want to see this season?

Sure,, some things I’d like to see:

Shiro getting to rest and recover at his own pace. I like that the show runners have previously mentioned we’ll also see him for a fair bit with just the one arm–it gives Shiro a chance to really adjust, to take a step back. This time, he’ll be able to get a prosthetic of his own volition and one that is to help him rather than a weapon that was forced on him. He’ll have the time and space to adjust and get a new prosthetic when he feels ready. I really like that, and I hope that we’ll see more of Shiro essentially just…really starting to heal rather than just trying to keep his trauma bottled up. 

After the first episode of season 7 and everything that happened between Keith and Shiro up until that point, I’d love to see them just sit down and have a whole conversation about it. Especially Shiro bringing up Keith’s scar and the two of them just…having this catharsis of reassuring one another after everything that went down. Josh mentioned it’s going to be very painful for Shiro to deal with these particular memories, and I really want these two to be able to have an open dialogue about it. While Shiro’s recovering, I’d also love to see Keith there by Shiro’s bedside to take care of him again, just like in season 3 (though we did certainly see some of that in A Little Adventure already). 

Really curious to see who made Shiro’s new arm! Pidge and Hunk are strong candidates, but with all the life giving alchemy Allura learned–the “magic” that Pidge and Hunk got annoyed by cause it wasn’t like regular tech, lmao–I certainly think that will play a role. 

Some sort of flashbacks of how things went for the galra generals during that time when everyone thought the paladins were dead. Because, as we’ve seen from the exclusive SDCC trailer, the Ezor has a galra tech prosthetic, Acxa has longer hair and possibly a prosthetic, and Zethrid is down an eye. That’s a lot of intensive character development, especially for characters we already know nothing about in terms of backstory. I’d love to see what’s really going on with them and what they’ve been up to

Show us why Acxa was so loyal to Lotor,, or just anything about the generals’ backstories like,,, please,, I’m begging,, I’m so confused lmao,,

ROMELLE STAYING WITH THE TEAM,, her personality bounced off so well with the others in season 7 episode 1, and I’d love to see more of that. I’m particularly excited to see more of her interactions with Hunk, as well as maybe getting some good bonding time with Allura.

THOSE FAMILY REUNIONS,, I can’t wait to see Colleen’s reaction to Pidge coming back when everyone else in the family had already left for space, I feel like that’s going to be very tense and have a different tone from the other reunions but,, I feel like it’s going to be very carthartic for them both. 

And of course it’s going to be neat to finally get to see Lance and Hunk’s families. Lance just crying while he hugs his mom again for the first time in over a year, Hunk making a nice home cooked meal for his whole family, just some good stuff,, 

Let Lance show Allura all the things he loves about earth like how she told him about her culture and Altea!! I’d be thrilled to see them stomping around in puddles during the rain or Lance taking her to the beach or something,, 

Speaking of, more allurance development in general. I’ve said it before, but it’s always seemed to me that was where the narrative was headed. I’d love to see Allura slowly opening up more and realizing how much Lance means to her–we’ve already seen her cry in a very romantic scene where she’s broken up over the thought of losing him, how she always finds comfort with him and comforts him in turn, how she looks at him so softly like…I’m so ready,, 

We know Shiro doesn’t really have much waiting for him at home–Adam certainly won’t be. And given the fact that he never mentions having family, I believe they must be estranged. Which is why he only brought Keith to the launch rather than his immediate family like Sam and Matt did. So, in leiu of a meeting with his own family, I’d love to see Keith inviting Shiro to stay with him and Krolia at the shack. And while everyone else gets their family reunion scenes, it’s just the three of them happily returning to the desert and sitting out under the starts together. 

Those cadets from Keith’s class out in action and backing up Voltron in the fight against the galra,, should be an interesting class reunion…

GIVE ME KEITH CONFRONTING IVERSON AGAIN,, show me them interacting and it’s like the tensest thing and Keith is ready to Fight if anyone so much as dare lay a hand on Shiro again,,

Coran!! Exploring!! And just in general being like…so very curious and over the top extra about everything on earth,, I’m so ready for him to have such an intergalactic culture shock,, same honestly for Romelle I’d love to see her trying to understand how earth things work

Just in general I’d love a side plot of Romelle, Allura, and Coran trying to figure out where to stay. Do they crash with the garrison?? The Holts?? Camp out outside Keith’s shack?? I’m so curious,,

The paladins failing miserably to win at that family feud game in the filler episode even though there’s something absurdly important at stake, like gaining more support for the coalition 

Votlron getting that new upgrade we already know about from the toyline,, called “hyper phase” or something I believe? But yeah, I’m certain we’re gonna see Voltron and the Lions all get new forms because of it, likely to do with Allura’s Altean alchemy or the White Lion, maybe both.

The pink bayard!! I don’t think it’s an animation error–to me, an error would be if they put in a duplicate like say, two red bayards, or if they just forgot to color the thing. But a pink bayard out of nowhere as an error doesn’t really make sense to me. Also, given that we know there’s a spoilery way for all the paladins to still be a team, I think it’s the real thing.

MORE LORE AND INFO ON THE DURIDS,, PLEASE,, we see them and the BOM fighting in the SDCC trailer and I am sO hyped for that,,

Shiro and Adam meet again for a short time. They’re both able to get some closure, but nothing more. Adam mourned him and moved on, and Shiro is no longer the person he was when he left. It’s been years, and much has changed. They go their separate ways. 

Hunk doing more diplomacy, both back on Earth and in deep space 

We find out more about the struggle for galran rule and what factions are in control. The power vacuum left behind by an empire with no emperor or Voltron would be huge. A new threat becomes apparent in the midst of this disaster.

I’d love to see that White Lion interaction with Shiro that was teased by marketing,, maybe Shiro undergoing his own trial to gain the Lion’s trust.

Some sign that Lotor has survived or maybe even managed to contact the other reality to further his dream of an “Altean Empire” 

Haggar finds and tries to further manipulate the Altean colony

This one has no basis in canon and is just pure fanon nonsense but,, dO THE PEOPLE ON EARTH TREAT THE PALADINS AS LIKE CELEBRITIES NOW,, THAT’D BE SO FUCKING FUNNY,, once it gets out that intergalactic hero and Garrison golden boy Shiro is single he’s gonna be like,, Earth’s Most Eligible Bachalor or whatever,, 

Also,, this one is maybe too fanon or self indulgent but like,, I’d love to see Krolia mention to Shiro once again how much he means to her son and how happy that makes her, like?? We already saw he was the only one she went out of her way to meet becasue of how much Keith talked about him. But then, when Keith says he’s going to stay behind with Shiro in a little adventure, Krolia just gives him this warm smile of support and like…I’d love to see her just tell Shiro that he maybe means more to Keith than he realizes or even just offhand mention to Keith that seeing him and Shiro together reminds her of being back at the shack with Keith’s dad
