it's been literal years since I made profiles, so here's the result of me grinding for like 4 days straight lol

Bree and Oliver's relationship is obviously not a giant focus in the rewrite, and they're the least close of any pair from the team. But man, as I'm rereading, the development and outcome of their relationship is really beautiful. They have no issues when it comes to being vulnerable with each other due to their proverbial distance, which makes them much better confidants for each other. I'm rereading rrsr and man they're making me emotional. Not only because he's the only one she can handle seeing for the first few chapters, but also when he has that breakdown, she's the first person he intrinsically seeks comfort from (as soon as it really starts she's the one he collapses on)

Even though they're the least close, they still have this very deep understanding and relatability to each other stemming from their complicated parental relationships too. Moreso than Oliver does with Chase, because the only person Chase has really acknowledged his feelings about Davenport with was Douglas.

I just think their bond is really special and unique. No one else on the team has a connection like this. Chase and Skylar have a very deep understanding and relatability to each other as well, but it's totally different. That and they're very clearly close where Bree and Oliver could be viewed as more distant. Not a single one of the pairs from the team have the same relationship, and I love all of the different nuances, struggles, and unique (to each pair) forms of love each relationship has.

if this gives you a minor crisis ignore me but

in one of the later installations, tecton is very admant that kaz and oliver aren't real heroes because of the way they earned their powers (unless im misremembering)

but didn't tecton also get his powers from a magic space rock? is he intentionally hypocritical or did i accidentally sweep all ur plot bunnies into a big pile

or is there a secret third option.......

tecton is written to be intentionally hypocritical! but not with this issue. he doesn't base his dislike of them being heroes off of how they got their powers, but because they're young and inexperienced normos, and the real reason: he doesn't want them hurt or dead by the shapeshifters. after neocortex and gray granite died, things just got a lot more real for him due to the brutality and their proximity to the shapeshifters.

he is supposed to be hypocritical and flawed because he would be too boring as the plain old golden hero, so i added a bit of overbearing superior righteousness to him. but even if he did bring up the arcturion (which i don't remember) it is all purely because of his concern for the boys

Why do you draw some people with upper lips and some without? I thought it was a makeup thing because Taylor doesn't have one, but you also draw Chase and Leo with them, and I don't think you have them wear makeup??

It is a makeup thing! (largely)

if the person wears lipstick, I draw the upper lip. chase and leo have them (bcs you're right, they don't wear makeup) for two simple reasons.

for chase, it's for the bit because his whole design (while still being legitimate ofc) is a joke derived from the show, where he's called the ugly one while the actor is most certainly not ugly lol. because of this, i draw him as stupidly pretty compared to other male designs (which is the reason for the upper lip and his eyelashes)

for leo, it's because he (and tasha/giselle/any other black character i draw) has a different lip shape, and it's the easiest way to stay consistent with my art style without neglecting those features. his and tasha's upper lip shapes are also rounder than the others, and it feels incorrect to not give leo his lip shape (bcs when i found this new style, i tried it and it looked stupid asf lol)

drawing chase and skylar makes me sad about their current tension in my rewrite :( bros are prone to fist fighting on a whim lol

also if you're wondering why chase is always the one skylar goes after when she's struggling like this is because she subconsciously feels like he's the only one who can take it, both physically and emotionally. she doesn't want to hurt bree and is the softest toward her for obvious reasons, and she's also incredibly soft for the other boys as much as they (kaz) annoy her. she views chase as more of an "equal" in that way and he's the easiest to be mad at due to this. she needs an outllet; she chooses the guy who throws her shit back in her face so she doesn't hurt the others

Did Reese really not care about Chase? it kinda seems more nuanced in your rewrite than the show

nah girl literally wanted absolutely nothing to do with him past her mission. he was literally just a means for intel about the superheroes to her. i just gave them a month of "bonding" rather than the three hours the show did because chase, even though he desperately wants love in any form, is not stupid enough to fall for and bring a stranger to their headquarters that soon

reese had no feelings for him whatsoever and is just a great actress

man all of decimation ch4 is heartbreaking but I occasionally get reminded that chase and bree had a little precursor to aijaf by him telling the team to kill him at the hotel via chip cutting and bree's the only one that understands what he means in time. not only does chase have to live with the consequences, but so does she, because in that instance she "selfishly" chose her brother over hundreds of people. that'll weigh on a person 🤠

why are the characters usually lined up in a spevific way? like oliver and skylar are always on the ends whenever you draw the team just curious :)

this is to balance the perspective! oliver and skylar are taller than the others but about the same height as each other. i use them for balance and framing

as for the others, chase is usually drawn in the center because he's the default voice in part one. if i don't put him in the center, it's usually bree. this is because kaz's height is close enough to both of them to balance well. if I hypothetically drew kaz in the middle, chase is way to tall compared to bree to balance the perspective.

this is definitely NOT an indication of mc order for part one, as that would be chase, oliver, kaz, bree, and skylar in order

also, if you look closely, i do the same thing with the rats. adam and leo are a lot taller than bree and chase, so they're usually on either end

in summary: skylar and oliver will almost always parallel each other, and kaz will almost always parallel chase or bree for balance
